I found it quite normal, despite the super rapid-fire feature, the only thing he did that was fancy was the jump over the fire out of the cracked pipe. i think it would be much more interesting to watch if he dodged enemies and bullets instead of shooting spread every directions...
I may just be ignorant and this is out there, but wouldn't a contra 2-player be significantly faster than the one-player version? Double the firepower, you could get through the "3D" stages and bosses a lot faster.
I'm not gonna try it but I just thought I'd throw it out there.

any chance this is still gonna be made? it would be perfect if u shot as soon as possible (just at the moment the enemy enters the screen he finds ur bullet) and without missing any shot. but i know that is kind of hard for 2 players ehehe
I think the movie should be done without any powerups, or maybe just machinegun or something. Spread just kind of makes the game far less of a challenge. I say, no powerups for the whole game, even if it takes a little bit longer to kill the bosses. With two people and careful firing it could be quite a show.
Without missing a shot i think is probably a little much to ask (for contra anyway) though i did that in blaster master and its like that in some of the megamen right?
Speaking of not missing any shots, sometimes I was forced to miss a shot in Mickey Mousecapade since both Mickey and Minnie would shoot a star at the same time. Since I wanted to kill or shoot as many things as possible, sometimes I would be forced to let one of the stars miss. Is there anything like that in Contra? Anyway, speaking of Mickey Mousecapade, did it look cool how I killed and shot so many things, or would it have looked better if I just walked passed all the stuff?

IMHO shooting is absolutely better. If you just pass enemies and other stuff the movie looks a little naked or something.
Contra 3 .. "when aliens attack" lol
I played my first run on that all the way through.. with someone from here.. can't remember who. The zbatle.net thing for SNES is nice for netplay. I wil say Contra3 for me is out, considering you need to be able to hit the broad side of a sprite. My reaction time is extremely slow :(
Unless of course half-speed isn't the slowest you can put either Snes9x or Zsnes.
But then, the networking would more than likely be the limitation, as my upload stream appears to be minimal for the game. Too many keypresses at once causes HELL in-game.

i have a 2 players movie for this game, played on zbattle, hard mode of course... if it wasn't for the lag we'd have RaPeD the game hehehe.. we did amazing things but far from perfect...
I recently heard about a challenge for Contra. The challenge was to go through the entire game not killing the regular enemies or gun turrets..... only the bosses/mini-bosses.
With that in mind, I carefully reviewed the game. Contra being one of my all time favorites to play on NES, I tried it out. My findings are somewhat mixed.
I recorded myself going through Stage 1 without killing any of the regular enemies and only destroyed the guy on the wall at the end, and the red circle door thing at the bottom..... I left the two machine guns there. Mind you, this is all in one try (re-record counter at 1 :D).
I see much room for improvement but here's what puzzles me. The base levels (facing forward and running from room to room with those laser barriers keeping you back) are pretty much impossible to play the same way due to the number of enemies that just love to run back and forth in front of the red targets.
I'm wondering if anyone else has heard of this challenge. Maybe someone and I can collaborate on a sweet video..... going over tactics, strategies and whatnot. I've got my version 1 for Stage 1 finished recorded with Famtasia. Like I said, I know I can improve but if anyone wants to see what I've done, let me know.
Thanks!
I think I saw a run like that once. It sounds pretty interesting, because your character could say, "No, I didn't kill a single possessed soldier! I'm a REALLY nice guy!"
And do you think you really need to kill the "guy on the wall" in the first level, or was that just a mistake?
put yourself in my rocketpack if that poochie is one outrageous dude
The "spread gun" is like that in the sense that because it fires in so many directions, some of its bullets will have to miss, because there just aren't targets in all those directions around you all the time. It also seems to be programmed strangely in that when you hit something with one of the odd-angled bullets and you keep on firing, bullets stop coming from that angle until you stop rapid-firing. Or at least, that's what appears to be happening when I play. Maybe it's a little different from that. Anyway, despite its shots "missing" things, I do suppose the spread gun would save time in the game by hitting multiple targets with a single shot, or hitting a single target multiple times with one shot.

the spread gun works like this: you can only have 10 shots on screen at once. so if you shoot too fast it releases less bullets per shot.
i think he could not waste bullets and still be fast. would be much more interesting and what, 1 second slower?
You really don't know how it works
plz read upper
There's 5 bullets at the same place for 5x damage.People who complain of this is because they don't know that game very much.

sorry, i was actually replying to bag of wood, cause he made a wrong explanation of how each spread shot comes in less amount. he said it's because it hits a target, i said it's because you are firing too much.
yes, you can still shoot from close and that way u get 5 shots everytime u shoot cause there will never be 10 shots on the screen at same time. that is good cause it doesn't miss any shot. i said he could still kill / avoid regular enemies using spread gun and not waste bullets. even if it was some frames slower it would be much nicer.
I was thinking of doing that, a nonviolent contra, it's hard to say though whether it would be cool. Fortunately its pretty straightforward to do, may as well make it for posterity :).
Other games might be cool with no shooting too, but I'm also afraid it might get old after a bit, though towards the end its probably quite exciting.
well honestly, I only killed him because the angle he shoots at, along with the gun turret down below, it's almost a trap....... so one of them had to go. I might be able to do it a lot smoother with re-records but I wanna see if it's possible only recording once per stage. Now THAT would be entertaining!
I also need a little help with re-records..... like keyboard/controller setup. I only really did my run recording once cause I'm not sure how to have one hand recording/loading and the other hand playing. That makes me think about that Double Dragon 2 run with two players, one human!
PS I'm not trying to really go for speed cause it takes a lot longer to get through the stages without shooting. More for aesthetic purposes!
