Doesn't look too bad, for not having luck manipulation or more than 1 player. Maybe this will help my terrible French comprehension skills, too. This is one of the games I'd most like to see a completed time attack for (similarly for FF5 and FF6).

When scores are drawn, who will you die for?

I got some thoughts this far (I've only watched up to 29minutes of segment 3 of the SDA run) that is really concerning me. I will post some more thoughts later. 1. At the rolling spike boss the witch releases upon you he uses candy and chocolate instead of remedy. Which of the three is faster, remedy vs candy and chocolate? Not using flame magic with the girl, I don't see the point. Move in on the enemy to use "air-born" spells such as fireballs and sylphid's flying discs faster. Didn't skip the password in the South Town. This can be avoided by running behind the trees (between the wall and the trees)

Ok.. He miss a BIG time saver in the underground palace (Segment 5, just a little sub 13minutes). There is a ledge to the left which he can jump up on if he charges some weapon a tiny bit. EDIT: I have finished watching the entire movie. I'm somewhat confused. He uses very strange magic, which probably costs him alot of time. But why didn't he use lucent beam at Thanatos?

Culden, it's still fun to watch, much like your BoF or Earthbound runs ( which you never finished sending to me ) since we can use fast forward when you lvl up and all i have to admit the time-attack that was started was awesome though.. i hope someone will continue/start one after seeing the SDA run as base, plus we saw what zero did with manipulation in his run, it just makes the game look so easy at such a low lvl

You mean the second to last boss? Because that one costs 8mp, and the girl is so low on levels that she could only use it 3 times before mana runs out. Plus he had to save some walnuts for the mana dragon. Also it only was level 1, undine was already at level 7.

Wonder if he could have landed more hits the regular way, instead of charging his weapon at the mana beast? If it would inflict more damage etc etc...

I was thinking after watching this run that he could have win quite some time in fight with little monsters througout the game by switching between the 3 characters after any hit on a monster. Although I do not know if the overall improvement would be that important... I also think that fighting this way would allow the 3 characters to be always gathered not to far away one from another, so the problem with blocked characters would be solved as well. I admit I don't have the courage (neither the time) to try it for a complete speedrun, though I was thinking to try my theory on some part of the game :p. Because I assume to know nearly everything of this game, I will look again the run to see if some other things can be improved.

If this game is going to be made I strongly think it would be a 3 player one. Perhaps 1 player controlls 3 players? =D Damn that would take time to make. If so I also think that hit and runs can be made without slowing down. Sort of like drive by's. One player could attack an enemy and then hit select or start to "release" that character, while some other player starts to run. The now computerized character will start to run as well right? There for you can gain xp without loosing much speed.

this might of been answered already but i dont feel like going through 10 pages of posts, how do you plan on leveling magic so that bosses are faster to kill? i mean the diffrence between 1 level in magic is huge

Hmm.. Maby magic doesn't need to be leveled at a certein point? But after one get's dryad the regular levels can be reached very quickly and thus perhaps get greater advantage towards enemies and bosses, especially the mana beast?

well just from what i remember from personal exp, magic is the fastest* way to kill a boss and 1 level means the diffrence between 100, and 300 damage. * - mabye saber magic is just as fast i dont know since i never payed much attention to the girl at all, it was always sprite for me.

I'm thinking that maybe magic doesn't need to be leveld that much outside of boss battles if you always keep 4 Fairy Walnuts in store. For example I think the Fire Gigas can be beaten using only Undine even if you haven't used Undine at all before, but you must have 4 Fairy Walnuts. EDIT: And I mean with only the sprite, not using ice sabre.

I think those numbers are a bit off. But yeah. Perhaps sabres could be an alternative.

I'm not positive on this, but I think that the only effect magic levels has on the saber magics is their duration, which isn't measured in time but in number of hits. It's possible that low-level saber magic could still be pretty helpful at certain parts.

Yeah.. It would help to level up the girls magic a bit though. For instance.. Casting fire sabre will help since the girl can cast fire boquet and stuff like that, which could be used to kill frost gigas and others.

Either manipulate critical hits or cast Moon Energy. You do less damage per hit but you get in a lot more all at once. I've killed the mana beast in a very short amount of time abusing that spell.

Yeah.. So which one is worth more? A charged hit or multiple regular hits? Both with moon energy...

Well, just going from what I remember, at a decient level I could pull off a fully charged Mana Sword attack and do 999 damage. This was charging it up all the way, which takes quite a bit of time (I'm not sure if a lower level charged attack would have done the same damage, I never tried). Using Moon Energy, I could prolly get at least ten regular hits in that same amount of time, for around 300-400 damage each. Considering the damage cap of 999, I would guess that more hits at less damage is the better way to go. I'm not even sure if you can score a critical hit with a charged attack. Also, I don't remember if you even need to let the sword work its way back up to 100% to score a critical with moon energy. I bet you have to, but it's been so long since I've played. Someone should test this. I'm almost certain abusing critical hits is faster than charging your weapons in most instances where you have a choice. I didn't realize what Moon Energy did until I had beaten the game a few times, and I'm almost certain that after I started using that spell, on the later bosses they were dying a lot quicker than my other playthroughs. Remember, this is all years ago from when the game was pretty much new. I've played it a bit off and on since then, but the majority of the time I logged in SoM was a long time ago.
