In the last 2 stable releases of BizHawk, rewinding while movie recording was now possible. However to my surprise, using the rewind button does not add to the re-record count. Is it planned for it to be used in proper TASing without problems? If it is, I'd suggest making the re-record count like this - a re-record using rewind would be one full press of the rewind button (instead of having every rewinded frame added as a single re-record)

No one cares about rerecord count.

I disagree. Rerecord count is not a particularly vital part of a TAS nor should a TAS be judged solely on that. That is not to say that no one cares.

well, having a TAS be rejected because there was no rerecord count maybe is enough proof that "no one cares about rerecord count" is a false statement :v then again, in that TAS I used the wrong bizhawk core for it. I remade it with the correct core, and it is more optimized, but it still doesn't have a rerecord count. So... what now?

Rerecord counts are not and never have been a reason for rejecting a TAS. However, low or nonexistent rerecord counts may be a sign of a lack of optimization, and lack of optimization is a common reason for rejecting a TAS (as it was in your submission). Rerecord counts in themselves are not a reliable indicator for anything, though - there are a lot of reasons why the number given may be inaccurate, and no amount of rerecord usage makes a TAS automatically good - it depends on how you use them. On the other hand, a TAS may still be optimized even if its rerecord count is low or zero, if the rerecord count was reduced or wiped by some other means, or if another method of creating the movie was done that doesn't add rerecord counts.
