I tried it to see what it will feel like, it seems bunny hopping didn't work properly (Alternating between jumping and sprinting to preserve speed) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nNB2vLZeKfg&feature=youtu.be Not sure if I'll continue, because IR is a pain to use.

Great work! Unfortunately, TASing FPShooters is really difficult, so you've already done the big work. It's easier to TAS CoD4 using timescale command (needed to play each map as a developer). This time, you won't spend much time on making the TAS itself, but every map can be improved. A TAS using timescale looks like that (I guess you know about this video): https://youtu.be/sT3GwJnTssE By the way, you've beated him in training room.
TASing is like making a film: only the best takes are shown in the final movie.

You might want to look into strafe jumping before you continue this. Looks very interesting, wonder what the limits are.

Yeah I know, his TAS run of the of the training is kinda bad, Someone hit a 9.0 unassisted on PC: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=feP6tnHVtNs

Technically he's right lol I am not able to reach this time on Wii, but I think I can shave off a second (maybe?)

Yeah I'll try again, I am not sure how to do it properly on Wii, maybe I'll look at a tutorial lol. edit: HOW DO YOU STRAFEJUMP ON A MOTION CONTROL BASIS!? It's not very easy to understand. PC/Console: Many TUT's Wii: 144p tutorial from like 2010.

I think I will put this TAS on hold for now, it is very hard to strafe jump and I don't know how to do it correctly on Dolphin, I think I will need a script of some sort that does it correctly. Edit: wow I need to proof read before I make a post. Sorry CoolKirby

Could you record a successful attempt, write down the inputs from the input display, and look off of that? A script could also work but it would have to be able to execute those inputs a frame at a time, depending on when you press the frame-advance key.

It's usually a ~90° turn followed by a jump.

It's not easy to execute, very hard to do it efficiently (knowing if I am moving in a efficient way) + motion controls don't do it any justice.

Wanted to redo this part. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yXKeWLOzIAo Not sure if strafe jumping is possible, I did a lot of tests but didn't see an increase in speed.

Ok, I improved the Cargo Ship practice to a 9.672, took a while. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F6uBif6AyYo&feature=youtu.be

Half a second ahead! (10.134 vs 9.672) God, how many improvements will be during all the game! You're very motivated!

I can see maybe a 9.5 or 9.4, 9.4 might be pushing it though, we will see.

Hey guys, I figured I'd revive this thread because I plan to work on a full-game TAS in 2018. Recently I've been working on optimizing the movement. This is what I have so far: https://youtu.be/2ishmS6HaTI As DwaniumB posted earlier, we have a few disadvantages on the Wii version compared to the PC version, but strafe jumping is still possible. To do it, face 45-90 degrees away from your destination. Then turn toward your destination while holding up/left or up/right on the nunchuck analog stick. Jump at the right time and you'll be flying toward the direction you want to go. It doesn't save much time and there's probably a better way to do it, but it's a start. Each jump seems to save 2 or 3 frames (this is a 30 FPS game). In the video linked above, I was able to keep up with the PC world record, but it's gonna be really hard to go faster than they do. The Wii version is slower than PC because higher framerates make you jump faster and farther. So the strafe jumping technique saves way more time on PC. The elevator glitch is also slower on the Wii version. But besides that, there aren't that many differences between versions. They did a really good job porting this game over to the Wii. However, there is one big difference (besides motion controls) that makes the Wii version really cool: Co-op. Much like Super Mario Galaxy, a 2nd player can connect a Wii remote and have their own crosshair to help player 1 shoot enemies. Player 2 has their own crosshair, weapons, and ammunition. So player 1 can focus completely on movement while player 2 aims and shoots enemies with an assault rifle. Player 2 can also shoot during cutscenes, which is a great opportunity for playaround. I'm looking forward to starting a full-game TAS, but it's gonna take a lot of work.

That sounds like a very tough game to optimize, but it would be amazing to have another modern FPS TAS like this on the site.
Current project: Gex 3 any% Paused: Gex 64 any% There are no N64 emulators. Just SM64 emulators with hacky support for all the other games.

I'm going to look at speed values soon so I can be sure that my movement is good. I doubt it'll be perfect, but I'll give it my best shot! I'm going to spend the next few weeks planning out the TAS. I hope to start it in early 2018.

https://youtu.be/AC-LiipROfo Here is my attempt at TASing the F.N.G. training mission at the start of the game. I get an in-game time of 9.342. Special thanks to Klooger for helping me with this mission. He holds the F.N.G. world record on PC and gave me a lot of advice on improvements I could make. I'm tied with the PC world record going into the last area, but I lose some time there due to a version difference. It's not possible to shoot through the outside wall and hit the last two targets on the Wii version. Because of this, I have to take a worse line at the end so I can shoot the targets from the outside. Unfortunately, sub 9 seconds doesn't seem possible on the Wii version.

I've gotten back into TASing lately and here's what I've been working on for the past few days. https://youtu.be/Eg33-FFSsa8 The first video is the type of movement you can expect to see all over the place. It's called Strafe Jumping, and it's a technique that is a carryover from the Quake engine. I won't go into detail but the idea is that when you input a direction that's perpendicular to the direction you're moving in, you gain speed. A video explaining this technique can be seen here. It's not quite that simple because there are other variables you have to worry about, but that's the basic idea. https://youtu.be/DFUhUIPC0LU This video demonstrates a huge skip that's been found in one of the campaign levels, Charlie Don't Surf. If you get out of bounds and on top of this building, you can take advantage of a physics quirk and bounce off the car in the parking lot, then land on the window seal and get inside. It's a really precise trick, and I'm not entirely sure if it's possible without the RPG boost, but I think it should be. There's still a lot to learn.

I've got two more videos to show off here. This first one is a demonstration of the elevator glitch, which allows for some out of bounds exploits. This technique is done by crouching then standing up in a very precise spot where your head can get stuck inside the edge of a ceiling. In this example, I crouch underneath a small hut then stand up in a very precise spot so the game lets me stand up even though there is a ceiling in the way. Actually, I jump, crouch in the air, then stand up in the air so my head can go through the ceiling more, which makes this specific elevator glitch possible. I won't go into detail about the different type of elevator glitches now, but maybe one day I'll talk about it more. https://youtu.be/gReTxdtl8w4 This next video is a really important one to me. It's the same as the strafe jumping video I uploaded yesterday, except it's also a comparison to the strafe jumps the PC speedrun world record holder can do in the same spot. The first half of the video compares my inputs to klooger's PC attempt with an uncapped framerate, while the 2nd half is comparing against him playing at 30 frames per second, which is how fast the Wii version runs. The framerate has a lot of interesting effects on gameplay, most notably the speed you accelerate at. The Wii version is disadvantaged in a lot of ways, but that keeps it interesting. I'm sure klooger's strafes aren't perfect, but I'm really surprised that I could make a short TAS that goes faster than a PC player with an uncapped framerate. https://youtu.be/sUMPffXOjUY One thing I should also mention, there are a lot of differences between this version of the game and the Xbox 360, PS3, and PC versions. This game was ported by Treyarch in 2009, two years after the release dates for the other versions. As far as I can tell, it uses Treyarch's engine from their Wii port of Call of Duty: World at War, not the original engine Infinity Ward made for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC versions. As a result, the gameplay and movement feels pretty different to those versions, and those differences will surely be highlighted in a full-game TAS. The biggest difference is with the movement, which I'll go into more detail about later when I have an example to show.
