Submission Text Full Submission Page
Melli's Retro land is a game on the homebrew Uzebox console based off of Gianna Sisters, which is based off of the Mario bros series.
There isn't much to this game other than moving right to the end. There is no run button so this is the speed you run at.
When you release the jump button, Melli falls immediately with the maximum fall speed.
I tried to make movement as entertaining as possible by collecting alot of gems, hitting blocks, and stomping on as many enemies as I could, Though this game is pretty limiting with what it can do.
Also this game is 1 hit kill, so any damage will just bring you to the beginning of the stage.

ThunderAxe31: Judging.
ThunderAxe31: For movies made with homebrew games, we require the game chosen to be a high quality and notable game with a strong following, which is not the case here: it's a basic platformer game that does not feature any kind of quirk that could give uniqueness to the gameplay. Rejecting for bad game choice.
Darkman425: Rejudging due to changes in triviality and game choice. This was requested in the revisiting rejections due to rule changes thread on the forums and I've been considering this one for a good while.
Darkman425: Since this game is well programmed I couldn't find anything like corner clips to get some sort of boost in speed. I also noticed the owl in level 6 giving exactly one reason this submission has to turn left. I tried seeing if there was some way to avoid that but the best I got was not holding right for a brief bit to avoid the owl that only tied the submission time. Not slowing down results in running into that stupid owl. Curse that owl. Otherwise optimization for this game is pretty straightforward and solid here.

The game seemed too simple to be entertaining for me. No vote.

Voting no. The run is trivial to accomplish, and the attempt for entertainment becomes repetitive very quickly.

Emphasis mine.

Get the facts straight. It's based of The Great Giana Sisters which itself is a knockoff of Super Mario Bros.. You don't skip the game where where the clone is based on and jump what the original is knocking off. No Vote.

Yo, what's with the needless rudeness? Giana Sisters is hardly the most popular game on the planet, so not knowing about it, it's entirely reasonable (and not incorrect) to conclude that this game is a knockoff of Super Mario Bros. instead. TAS's pretty boring though. Not much you can do about it, sadly. I think I saw one instance where you actually had to slow down to clear a jump. Considering how other Uzebox games got vaulted, I don't see why this one can't be, though.

The whole time I was watching this, I was thinking, "I know that the Uzebox isn't a powerful computer, but it can't compete with a 1.79 MHz Ricoh 2A03 from 1982?" Then I found an online Uzebox emulator and a bunch of games that don't suck. Check out this faithful Donkey Kong port. How about this Dr. Mario port? Or Pacman? It's not that the hardware can't make a decent Mario clone; this is just a badly made game. Hell, check out the graphics in this Super Mario World WIP! It looks like you picked the worst Uzebox game for your TAS. It's ugly and boring. For entertainment, it's an easy No vote.
TASing or playing back a DOS game? Make sure your files match the archive at RGB Classic Games.

Although this is not the most exciting game, this TAS does demonstrate one thing that I feel is worthy of publication... From a visual perspective, it never stops for one frame to correct a situation or wait for a scenario to occur, from what I can tell. This is important for me to see an edge over a human run. From what I gather, it would be impossible for a human to complete this in the same manner. Yes vote.
I recently discovered that if you haven't reached a level of frustration with TASing any game, then you haven't done your due diligence. ---- SOYZA: Are you playing a game? NYMX: I'm not playing a game, I'm TASing. SOYZA: Oh...so its not a game...Its for real? ---- Anybody got a Quantum computer I can borrow for 20 minutes? Nevermind...eien's 64 core machine will do. :) ---- BOTing will be the end of all games. --NYMX
