Triple post update time. I finally got around to testing Stage 6 manipulation and it's dreadful. It doesn't change every frame. It doesn't change at all, really. The only time I've gotten the pattern to change is by delaying the final hit on Jennifer by far more time than I've saved over my test run, and that only gives me one single new spawn pattern. It has to be an actual delay on the final hit, too: I tried pausing the game and waiting there for 20 seconds and I still got the same awful pattern. The spawn pattern in my test run was nearly perfect, there's no way I'd be able to make up for 2-3 seconds of lost time by getting a different pattern. It has to be a good pattern I can get within three seconds, and I can't do that. I don't know if there's another way to change the pattern, though I have a couple ideas that I'll try out soon. If they fail, though, I'm declaring this dead in the water. I'll probably still clean up Stage 7 in my test run and submit that, and probably whine about this problem in the submission text for longer than I actually explain what I'm doing. If I go that route, it should be on the workbench on Halloween, because zombies and blood and horror or whatever.

Dang, sorry to hear this game has been a pain lately. Saw the boss fight and looks pretty great! Also sorry about being very late to responding :P I really hope you find a way to finish this eventually! I am still looking forward to it :)

Right now, with DTC5 happening and a couple other engagements (holidays, community SDA marathons) I haven't had the time to really work on this. I did start optimizing Stage 7 on the old test run, but I still feel weird about submitting it due to all the noticeable mistakes throughout the rest of the run, and I can't go back and fix them because it might give me a worse Stage 6 pattern. Either way, I'll get this done at some point, most likely when TAStudio is as stable as TAS Editor is in FCEUX.

Now that this has happened, I took a stab at Stage 6 and couldn't get the pattern to change again... However, I decided to just press on and try to see what I could do with the pattern I got and I ended up realizing how bad the boss fight on my test run was. A quick test (no effort on the stage, all effort into optimizing the boss fight) ended up saving over a second over the test run despite the worse stage pattern. ...To put it simply, expect this on the workbench within the week. Pretty stoked to finally finish this up after all this time. EDIT: Man, I'm finally on Stage 7 after all this time, with 103 more frames saved over my test run. Finally, we'll have 3/4 TASable Splatterhouse games on the site. Planning a semi-special encode for this.

I'm currently working on an improvement to the published TAS by the end of the 2nd stage boss I saved like 96 frames but lost 10 at the 3rd stage. I'll have to do some rework to get those frames back.
