Rotohex is, without a doubt, one of my favorite puzzle games of all time; I decided to see just how fast I could possibly beat it! There's definitely room for improvement, but this happens to be my first TAS, as well as the first TAS of Rotohex I have encountered online. I'm satisfied with how it came out!
This TAS features Solo Mode completed in 7 minutes and 37 seconds, from the moment I selected Solo Mode to my final hexagon match of the game.
Here are all the strategies I employed in this movie:
  • By holding down both the 1 and 2 buttons of a Wiimote (A and B if you are using motion controls), the tiles will fall at the fastest speed possible in the game.
  • Using the above tactic and the white powerup which changes all the tiles of the powered-up tile to the adjacent tile's color, I am able to wipe out a "level" in mere seconds.
  • While a set of tiles are in the process of changing color via the white powerup, you can rotate target colors into place so that they automatically match after the colors are changed.
  • You can move the cursor twice in one frame to speed things up slightly.
  • Even though cursor has some cooldown after matching a hexagon, you can still move it around and position it to wherever you want.
  • Whenever the board was filling up and I didn't have much of the target color to work with, I used the black powerup to flush away some tiles and look for more of that particular color or the white powerup itself.
I hope you enjoy!!
EDIT: I canceled this TAS. I got way too trigger-happy with recording this and I rushed it. I do have a new and much-improved one that I'm about to upload. Thanks for understanding, glad to learn the ropes around here! After all, I'm brand new. :)

According to Dolphin. 5.0-10293 was released 10 hours before this TAS was submitted. I have a lot of doubt on this movie.

Full disclosure: Right before recording this TAS, I was notified of the update to Dolphin and went ahead with it. Is this not commonly accepted?

I'm assuming that what he was referring to was the fact that this was made on the version of Dolphin that was released 10 hours ago, which would imply that the whole movie was started and finished less than 10 hours ago (which is very quick, especially for a first TAS). Also, your submission says you only had 6 rerecords. I hope that that is inaccurate, because if you really do have only 6 rerecords in a 7 minute TAS, then your TAS would hardly be better than what a human player can do in the game, which would render the TAS pointless.

I used mostly frame advance though. I thought I had re-recorded more than 6 times.

Hey, what are your graphics settings in Dolphin? My GTX1050 is tremendously slowed down by the visually demanding ending of Solo mode.

Video dumping is independent of graphic settings.

Hiya~! I would like to point out real quick that just using frame advance is not really effective...this is your first TAS though, so I won't get nit-picky.

Hey, thanks for the advice! I realized last night that I got way too trigger-happy about my first TAS and yeah, I rushed it. I planned out and recorded a much better one and it already looks leagues better. Sorry about this one guys, will be canceling.
