Yet another improvement. We are not the type of guys to let our arms down and surrender ;)
Only 3 frames faster but still an improvement. :)
At stage 8-2, not so much enemies had beed killed. The reason, it's to control the randomness and show you how the game is "well" programmed when some Koopa Paratroopa had decided to kill themselves at the sight of Mario.
I have stopped the movie at the axe for better comparison.

Phil: Even if there will be 100 people that vote yes, I am 100% sure it will not be published. At least, it's currently the fastest SMB1 run and people have seen a different way of playing this game without slowering the total time(I am talking about that 8-2 stage which in my thought was original but maybe too artistic for some serious guys). So I am gonna cancel it since it's pointless.
I forgot to mention that our new warpless version that we are currently doing, will be very creative without being like that 8-2 in the warpful version. I am sure you will be pleased.
I woul like to add this game for this topic Forum/Topics/2252 It's even better than the published version.
Bisqwit: I don't understand what you are bitter at. You yourself cancelled this submission after a few posts of discussion at the board.

Maybe you were unskillful ;) But maybe that settles it then.

I can show you the proof that it is possible to enter warp section at same frames and do 1 faster. In the end, it will show that you are unskifull ;P Edit: Or maybe, you are saying that Pom is losing 2 frames in this section?

Evidently, because you know he did his move at exact precision.

Btw, Michael Fried, what's your opinion? AFter reading your text, I am not sure what you are thinking about this video. I voted meh. Finishing 8-4 at 317 was cool, but there were a few cool things that Pom did that you didn't like alternating between facing left and right as he went up the stairs. I think there were a few other things I liked better about his video but I'm too lazy to watch both videos again to refresh my memory about what they were.

If I am redoing a new version, what do you want guys? Or maybe redoing a warpful version is hopeless?

It's far from hopeless, I think. As for my own wishlist, that'd be: a) be as fast as possible b) be as entertaining as possible In short, a fusion between your and Genisto's run (speed) and Pom's run (entertainment value) would be ideal. ^^ N.B. that's not to say that your run wasn't entertaining, BTW.

Normally, I was supposed to do nearly the same as Pom did but didn't want this. I am pretty sure it will have been refused instantly by Bisqwit. Maybe I was wrong, probably not. Btw, there was some moves I couldn't do in our precedent version due to losing to many frames and now possible to do with this extra 2 frames boost. Ex. The 1-up mushroom at stage 1-2. In conclusion, except if I and Genisto or Pom and Mana can find a new bug that improves the run, this movie will remain the fastest as possible and impossible to beat in time. According to some opinions, it can be possibly improved in entertainment and will probably look the same as our precedent movie and Pom's movie which is in my opinion, not very creative. Presently, I have 3 options. - Redoing the whole run and try finding with your help, some different moves that are entertaining . - Copy Pom's stage 1-1 to end of 8-3 then mixed our 8-4 to it . I should ask his authorization and the movie should be called "pom, phil, genisto-smb1" - Do nothing. I mean that we shouldn't continue to work more the warpful version. Btw, we are currenly redoing the warpless version. I have better hope for this one. And probably doing a warpful SBM2j then a warpless SMB Lost levels version from 1-1 to D-4.

Just be sure to rain destruction on those goombas and koopas just like you did last time. That was the best aspect of the video.

Yes ^_^ . I prefer a Fiery Mario version than a small Mario version. I will kill as most enemies as possible and count on me that the movie will be even better to watch. At stage 8-2, in warpful version, we took a risk by doing strange moves like jumping on the trampoline but there will be no more things like that since some people don't like that.

When you say "basic guidelines", are you talking about your contest to see who can use their superior save state movie making skills to claim $100?
A little harsh. Not once did I mention (or have I ever really mentioned) my site (which I admit, hasn't worked itself yet into a perfect identity, but I'm trying, all at my expense), but I was more talking about some guidelines I noticed here: Compare different paths and select the one that can be done fastest. "As <adjective> <...> as possible" type primary goals are usually failed attempts of accomplishing perfection. The only adjective that we usually allow in that goal is "fast". And again, if Pom's movie couldn't be made as fast as this one without compromising its style, I would be opposed. But it can. In this circumstance, I'll vote yes for the faster movie.

Redoing the whole run and try finding with your help, some different moves that are entertaining . I think this idea is the best. Post your progress after each level and everyone will try to think of ways to make the run more entertaining. As a general rule, choose the move that would require the greatest accuracy and where you would have the fewest possible number of frames to press. For example, when you jump over the pit with 2 coins under it, if I remember correctly Pom got only 1 of them, and that's harder than jumping under both of them.

Sounds overly complex to me, and imo, a distrust statement on the author's ability of making an entertaining movie.

Isn't Viper doing something like what I described for his SMW run? No matter how good you are at making entertaining movies, 20 people working together will be able to come up with cool moves that you didn't think of.

I just did the first part of 1-1 and tried to make it look as cool as possible. Let me know what you think of it: http://www.geocities.com/mk64god/smb500.zip Does it look cool or is the repeated jumping annoying?

I think the jumping's a bit overdone.

It's faster. I vote yes. If Phil and Genisto or Pom release a movie that's as fast as this /or faster/ and more entertaining, by all means, swap it out.

i'm abstaining. pom's video is far more entertaining, this is faster and is therefore the fastest current video of this game. one part of me says it should be published, but i would HATE for pom's run to get obsoleted by a more blah looking run. i personally think there shouldn't be any new smb1 videos until someone breaks to 4:59 (rounded to this time)

I watched this movie and even though it's faster than the previous movie (by more accuracy in 8-4), one sentence came to my mind which describes my opinion: bad imitation of Pom's movie.
The reason I state this opinion is because I don't like backstabbing. I'll welcome it if Pom makes a new version that is 3 or more frames faster than his current version, but when it's a different author, I think a higher threshold should be applied. Either it has to be significantly faster (21 frames is significantly in SMB1 at this point) or more entertaining (which seems to be impossible). I felt bad enough when I obsoleted Michael Fried's SMB2j movie with only a ~20 frame difference.
