Super Mario Bros. is one of my favorite games so that's why I decided to make it a tool assisted speedrun.
This movie does not have huge glitches, only on one level of the game. I use for the glitch only, a glitch type "wrong warp" to access more quickly to another part of a level. This movie has the same rules as the "glitchless" category on a normal speedrun but this one allows one glitch.

Game objectives

  • Emulator used: FCEUX 2.2.3
  • Beat the game with only one glitch (flag pole, etc..)
  • Boosts at the beginning of the levels to save time

Comments

This movie has about 17000 frames(about 5 minutes). This is my first tool assisted speedrun that was done in a week.

Stage by stage comments

1-1 World 1 First level.

At the beginning of the level, I use a boost that saves time and reaches the end faster than a normal speedrun. In the underground part, I also use small boosts that allow you to go faster and slow down towards the end of the blocks in height to avoid being stopped by the pipe. Leaving the underground part, I made a boost that would not waste time and go faster towards the end of the level. I touch the top of the flag to save time.

1-2 World 2

In the second level of the game, at the beginning, there is no manipulation of glitch or others, towards the end of level two, I took a "warp" which allowed me to reach the world 4.

4-1 World 4

In the first level of the world 4, I did the boosts with the small jumps to save time and go faster. No manipulation of glitches in this level, just go to the end of the level.

4-2 World 4

In the second level of the world 4 which is an underground level, there is normally a "wrong warp" glitch that I did not use. I made the invisible blocks appear in the middle of the level to get on top and go on the warp to access World 8 which is the last world of the game. No glitch manipulation in this level.

8-1 World 8

In the first level of the last world, the level is longer than the other levels I have already covered. I made an acceleration which is a small boost that saves time. Still no glitch manipulation for this level. I touch the top of the flag at the end of the level which saves time and maybe frames what people call "framerules".

8-2 World 8

In this level, always the acceleration at the beginning which saves time. No manipulation of glitches, only reach the end of the level. To avoid a timer that would not finish 3 or 9, I stopped a little at the end to have a time not equivalent to 3 or 9. This stop allowed me to save time and frames otherwise the game would display fireworks for a few seconds.

8-3 World 8

At the third level of the last world, always an acceleration that allows you to go faster and save time. NO glitch manipulation but some jumps that can save time. As for the second level of the last world, to avoid the game displays fireworks, I stopped one or two times by jumping slowly which allowed me to have a timer not equivalent to 3 or 9 and to win a few seconds of my movie.

8-4 World 8 Last level.

For the last level of the game going on in a castle, only one glitch manipulation is done. The manipulation of the glitch is a glitch of the type "wrong warp" which happens towards the end of the level. Always at the beginning the acceleration which saves time also when one leaves a pipe. For the pipe that allows quick access to the end, as for the second level of the world four, I made the invisible block appear to access the pipe and arrive more easily in the game. Just after, I made handling the only glitch in the game. You had to be not too far from the pipe and not too close to the pipe, to be in between to access the water part of the level. The level ends with a fight with bowser and I game is finally over.

Other comments

What the audience would surely like to see, more glitch handling, more impressive gameplay and more beautiful to see, faster time and so on.
To improve my movie, I could improve the accelerations at the beginning of the level and try not to stop at the end of the levels to avoid a time equals 3 or 9.

Memory: Judging
Memory: Hello sushiw097 and welcome to TASVideos. While your movie appears decently optimized, there are two major issues with it. One it fails to achieve the goal it states to achieve: it performs two glitches instead of one, since it uses Left + Right to save time in one level. The second is that this goal is unacceptable. While usage of fewer glitches could potentially be seen as a valid goal, the usage of one glitch total seems arbitrary. Why one glitch? Why not two or three? There's no real justification for the goal choice here, nor any reason to believe the audience would find this particular goal choice interesting. In order to accept exotic goal choices, they must be seen as unique and entertaining, and this isn't really either. Read the rules for further information on this.

Hang on, this has L+R input! I've been lied to this has 2 glitches!!! Anyways, this glitchless movie is faster: #4383: scrimpeh's NES Super Mario Bros. "glitchless" in 05:08.51 This input also has blank input, but not 23 seconds worth of blank input.

It's actually not faster, this movie really does have 23 seconds worth of blank input.
[16:36:31] <Mothrayas> I have to say this argument about robot drug usage is a lot more fun than whatever else we have been doing in the past two+ hours
[16:08:10] <BenLubar> a TAS is just the limit of a segmented speedrun as the segment length approaches zero
