I saw someone proposing that this would be a G4.5 rather than the actual G5.
I know a lot of folks aren't a fan of the art direction - LF's designs were ridiculously toyetic on top of keeping the Early 90's Hanna-Barbera feel to them - but I like the chibi beanhead style.
With that said, it's very clearly anime-inspired, moreso than LF's designs ever were (and LF's designs were anime-inspired in all the right places)
So I finally got around to watching the final episode. I... wasn't a huge fan, especially when it came to some of the post-timeskip reveals (idk how much of a spoiler we still consider that). Yes, that includes certain pairings, but they've been confirmed to have been left ambiguous by the showrunners, so you don't have to accept them as canon. Surprising nobody given what always was and still is my FiM OTP, the implied one for Rainbow Dash and the confirmed one for Pinkie Pie were the ones that I really don't like, and tbh I would have prefered if they just hadn't implied/confirmed anything like that one way or the other about the main characters. Even if, now that the show is over, it kinda doesn't matter anymore.
Some things I thought were gonna happen in the finale didn't - and I consider episodes 24 and 25 the finale, with 26 as the epilogue - which surprised me, in a good way. Other than that... the only really good moment was chaos goddess Pinkie Pie.
I kinda planned on writing more things about my opinions, but... eh. It's not like back when Adventure Time ended, where I enjoyed it up until the end, it held a consistent high quality, and I liked that it got a proper ending. In the case of FiM... I'm just glad it ended, now. Even if it's been eight years. I remember how great the show was at the start, but it didn't manage to keep that up. I'm still pointing to the season 3 finale as the point where it all went tits up, even if they did manage to produce the occasional good episode after that.
So on that note, I'm just going to go ahead and list what I consider is the best episode of each season.
Season 1: Party of One. The best episode the show ever produced, and the most complicated Pinkie's character ever got.
Season 2: Lesson Zero. Peak Twilight, and the kind of Twilight I enjoy the most.
Season 3: Magic Duel. Season three had issues, but this was a very good episode, and by far Trixie's best appearance.
Season 4: Pinkie Pride. This was actually a tough one - it was between this or Maud Pie. I can barely call one better than the other, but Pinkie Pride had the Weird Al songs, Pinkie in top form, and certain other qualities.
Season 5: Canterlot Boutique. Season 5 was not great, but I always felt like this episode was a bit of a thematic followup to Suited for Success, and the song somewhat of a followup to Art of the Dress - which, I might add, remains the best song from the show, in my opinion.
Season 6: Dungeons and Discords. After some weak Discord showings, he was back in great form here, and it was just a really entertaining episode in all the right ways. Especially for us nerds.
Season 7: A Royal Problem. A solid episode in what was otherwise a very weak season, with maybe one or two other alright episodes in there.
Season 8: Fake It 'Til You Make It. Same reason as the above one, except there weren't actually any other good episodes that season.
Season 9: Point of No Return. Twilight in this one felt a lot like the Twilight from the early seasons.
Apparently there was a special back in June, though, and some EQG things I never saw... but at this point, I don't think I'll bother. Same with the upcoming "season 10" comic. I feel like I'm done with Friendship is Magic media at this point. That "Pony Life" thing isn't something I'm gonna care about, either. Once the actual G5 rolls around... we'll see. When FiM started, keeping an open mind about it was what everyone said, and that did result in... okay, in the end, more episodes I felt were mediocre at best than actual good episodes, but I'll defend the first two seasons and part of the third as really good ones. So I might give G5 a few episodes. Maybe.
And I might still put my pony figures back up somewhere when I've got more stuff done with this apartment, though. As a reminder of the better times.

There's a fan hypothesis that Applejack's and Rainbow Dash's elements have somehow been inadvertently switched around by the authors of the show. It should be Applejack who espouses loyalty and Dash who espouses honesty.
Season 9 once again demonstrates how even the writers seem to think so. In episode 4 Applejack seems to have no problems in making up a completely fictitious background story for herself (which is another example among several of a clash with her supposed honesty), and in episode 15 Dash shows a great deal of disloyalty towards the cheerleading team (while being brutally honest the entire time, even to the point of being a jerkass).
If Applejack were the loyal one and Dash the honest one, these would make complete sense. The way it officially is, doesn't.
Maybe I'll do that too. The problem is, it has been quite many years since I watched the first seasons, so it's hard to remember favorite episodes. I'll just have to go by the episode synopses and try to remember how they were.
Season 1: Hard to choose, given that the first seasons were overall above average. Could be "Call of the Cutie" (because of its fantastic puberty metaphor), or your choice, "Party of One". But just to not choose the same, I'll say "Sonic Rainboom".
Season 2: Really hard to choose, due to several great episodes. "Baby Cakes" was surprisingly enjoyable given how much I usually hate babysitting episodes in cartoons. "It's About Time" is one of the better Twilight-centric episodes. But I'll go with "A Friend in Deed", as an even better Pinkie-centric character establishing episode.
Season 3: I suppose "Magic Duel" isn't a bad choice, but if I had to choose something different, I suppose the pilot double episode wasn't bad. Or "Too Many Pinkie Pies".
Season 4: "Maud Pie" hands down.
Season 5: "Amending Fences" hands down. Easily one of the top 3 episodes of the entire series.
Season 6: Such a forgettable season, so hard to choose a good episode. Let's say "No Second Prances".
Season 7: I suppose "The Perfect Pear" was nice.
Season 8: I hated "The Maud Couple" significantly less than I was expecting at the beginning of the episode. It was actually quite ok.
Season 9: I suppose "She Talks to Angel" was ok.
The My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic comic book series will be concluded after 102 issues. There's gonna be a new comic book miniseries called My Little Pony Generations. We're soon to be seeing G5 My Little Pony.
