I know of one 1P Shiva TAS, it’s available on YouTube, but the author didn’t provide his input file. The menu selection looks quite sloppy, but the run itself is very impressive. It’s also completely flawless (after taking Shiva), which makes it even more “impossible” and impressive. Link to video

I think it would be great if we had a hack that just replaces 2 heroes with Shiva and Ash. BTW, I did a short TAS movie where I play as Ash (used Game Genie): Link to video
TASing is like making a film: only the best takes are shown in the final movie.

Ash has a dull moveset (all of his attacks use his throw sprites), and Shiva takes away the challenge from the game (he can keep spamming his back attack).
I like Doraemon

I started working on a TAS of this game with Axel and Blaze, but gens desynched it. I'll maybe try using bizhawk if/when I get back to it. As Atro City has mentioned before, Axel would be faster for a few reasons. The multihit glitch does more damage with him, and there is some potential for serious boss cheesing. Link to video

it's actually even better than that now thanks to a discovery by corkscrew/eggbandicoot. You have a few seconds of i-frames when entering the boss room, and if you use Axel's double knee on the boss, it tranquilizes his AI and lets you combo him with no interruptions. It's similar to how the double knee and other moves in sor2 stop Zamza from blocking. Link to video

Wow, glad to hear that you are working on this game. I know that Gens cannot be used for some games because of the desync issue, that’s why I didn’t finish my Mario 3 (pirate game) run. It’s a shame that something breaks the determinism in certain games, and it’s nice that you can use Bizhawk, which I cannot use for Mario 3, because I use Linux.

sor3 is a buggy as hell game anyway. trying to keep it from desynching on netplay used to be awful back in the day. btw those old sor3 TAS movies by gsaurus were actually done without re-recording, he had some convoluted way of doing it like making gens+ input movies and editing them together or something. so they wouldn't be submittable here or anything lol

Nice WIP, looks very optimized. It seems like Axel will be quite a bit faster due to the instant/more powerful downward attack, and his infinite combo/back attack (I can already see Jet being much faster if you use this). The only issue will be entertainment, since most of the run will be using the multihit glitch. Keep in mind that after each scene, you gain health beyond what the bar displays, so the players can hit each other without appearing to lose health. Interesting that Gens would desync. I don't recall ever having that problem (the times it did desync, it was because I loaded a state in the wrong order).

Yeah, something to keep in mind also is Axel's grappling actually has potential to be stronger and faster than Zan's due to buffering it with his powerful punches and the slam animation being much, much shorter. The multihit glitch wouldn't be such a downer on the run if collision worked more like sor2, that's why the TAS of that one is so fun despite constant multihit abuse. In this one it's kind of the same neutral down jump attack over and over.

Yeah. Technically, it should work with any type of non-knockdown attack, but because of how the bug works, downward attacks are by far the most effective because their hitbox lasts a long time.

With SOR4 coming soon, I got to thinking about this game again. It's not strictly TAS-related but I figured it still belongs here. I don't know exactly why but there's something that always drew me to SOR3. Maybe it's the game's quirkiness and its tendency to be a bit out there with its ideas and characters. It could be the Japanese version's fairly ambitious and dark story about selling weapons to the highest bidder and using Wood Oak City as the testing site. Maybe it's the nostalgia I had in the early 2000s looking for information on hidden/missing content like the removed motorcycle stages and other oddities (much like Sonic 2, another treasure trove of beta content). Sadly the site I used to go to for this info (Streets of Rage Online) is now defunct, which makes me glad for the Wayback Machine that much more. The funny thing is SOR3 isn't even my favorite Streets of Rage. And yet I come back to it far more than SOR2 for some reason. Whereas SOR2 is polished to a fine sheen with its near-flawless execution and soundtrack, SOR3 took it upon itself to go farther than its predecessor and go into territory that at the time was unexplored by other beat-em-ups. Some of it worked and some of it sticks out like a sore thumb, but the game really tried and you have to admire it for that. It was the "experimental" touch on SOR2's "safe" formula, which for me has gotten a bit stale over the years despite its technical excellence. With that in mind, I finally got a boxed copy of this game after all of these years, sat down and did something I was never able to do before, complete SOR3 on Hard mode and get the good ending. On that note, I'd like to give a very special "screw you" to Jet for costing me 6 lives and being just about the hardest boss in beat-em-up history. It only took 15 years, but I feel like my journey with this game has finally come to a close. I do feel it's a shame though that no one did another 2-player TAS of this. That would've been fun to see and I know mine is horribly unoptimized so the time wouldn't be tough to beat.
