well... i got bored and did this one a day or so ago. its complete but there're mistakes here and there. i generally never do a movie FRAME BY FRAME but i did have this slowed to around 20 or 16%. hmm... i wonder if people know what this one is? Well, its kind of a sequel to the old Pitfall game for Atari. its out on SNES as well and maybe another platform or so (32X but i cant make my BIOS work). i think the PAL version has more obstacles, but it kept desyncing on me. dont know why really, i had everything setup for it to use PAL games. anyhow, the LINK: http://133an.sytes.net/~truncated/pitfall_tma_by_ssd.zip thanks to truncated for putting it up. and there should be a list of things that i acknowledge in that zip as well. if not, ill post them here as i originally intended to. just curious as to what people thought of it. well...enjoy.

Hmmm, judging by the astounding number of college co-eds screaming for this movie to be done, I tried to do it. I also did a speedrun of it (not verified yet) for SDA, and there are lot of cool shortcuts in this game that /*-'s testrun didn't show, particularly in the first temple and the waterfall (don't remember the Mayan names). I did the first level, and it's fairly optimal, but it didn't look as cool as I hoped, and Harry Jr.'s controls are not conducive to slow playing (i.e. it takes him like 30 frames to turn around). Also, the exploding stones are good to use against WARRIOR SPIRIT (the final boss) because they're the only weapon that makes him retreat, so that's why I didn't use any against the first boss. Also, Bablo made an up-to-the-first-boss test-run of the SNES version, and I thought it looked really cool, but I couldn't guilt him into finishing it, and I've lost the file. And things are a little different in the SNES version (no visible boss hp, for one). In conclusion, I think it would be cool if someone (besides me) did this. I got bored making it pretty quickly (I made this like a month ago, and haven't made any progress since). happy at least someone else knows about this game. i jumped a lot because i thought it was faster. and i didnt know much because when i use to play it when it first came out, i couldnt beat the first level. this was done to sort of satisfy my ego (does that link still work?), and no one responded to it, so i quit. it would be nice to see it completed though... in some capacity.

Doesn't seem to be much attention given to this game, no, but I think it's because it's unknown rather than being bad or some such. >does that link still work? Yup, sure does.

thats a shame... being in a community with such knowledge of video games and not knowing about a "sequel" to something like Pitfall... one of the most classic games out there (you cant buy an atari pack today without it)... thats like naming the TEN MOST MEMORABLE NINTENDO LEVELS and forgetting about metroid and zelda. ;)

This is kind of amusing, because this game is probably one of the most ported games in the history of gaming (or, at least, that I'm aware of). According to Moby Games, Pitfall: The Mayan Adventure was released on the following systems: Game Boy Advance Genesis Jaguar Sega 32X Sega CD SNES Windows For a game released in 1994, that's quite a few different platforms.

Ok, so I had an idea and it made me do a TAS again after what, 2 years? It turns out the idea can't work and I think I've found something. The idea was to TAS the atari game inside the Genesis or SNES version of Pitfall the Mayan Adventure. Since we don't have re-recording atari emulators, and I tried to beat this game on the atari the other day, I was wondering what the fastest time would be. So I started optimizing it even before making a test route (why would I need a test route? The best path is known...). So I've optimized more than half of the run, and decided to finish the rest unoptimized just to see if it all worked. And I couldn't beat the game. Using emulator tools, and more than half of the run was optmized. The timer reached zero before I could get close to the end. So I compared my movie to a speedrun on youtube, played on the atari. Playing both side by side it became clear that there was something weird in the timing. The vines swing at a different speed and starting at a different position when they appear on screen. Same goes for the lake and crocodiles. I then tried the SNES version of the atari game and the same problem persists. I then tried all the atari versions on stella and they are very different. There was also another difference, a weird one: the rolling logs don't make harry stop moving on the mayan adventure version. I tried moving all the switches on the atari to see if there was a combination that made it possible also on the atari, but they always make harry stop while touching it. I don't know what version of the game they ported to mayan adventure, but as far as I know, it is unbeatable, and I haven't found this information anywhere. I just realized I can try this on the activision anthology for the gameboy advance. Will post on this thread with the results if it's another fail. edit: the gba version seems to be an accurate emulation of the atari game, but it runs really slow. So I'm dropping this project.

Sorry to be reviving such an old topic, let alone one with so little interest. I was trying to improve the SNES version of Pitfall, but found nothing worth a new run. The Genesis version, on the other hand, has quite a lot of new tricks. So I'm working on an improvement to Beelzebub's run. The new tricks include; shooting animation cancel, walk through walls (just one of them so far) and a more optimized overall movement. The new run will be ready in a few days, so, well, that's all. See you soon with my first Genesis run. edit; almost done, I'm at the auto scroller stage, the mine cart-esque stage, 5600 frames ahead so far. edit; just the WARRIOR SPIRIT to beat, it will be submitted soon. edit; oh, oh... a new glitch. It may save time on early levels, so I'll have to test it a little bit more. It's a Sprite Limit trick; by throwing a certain number of rocks at the same time, some objects fail to spawn. edit; nah, only important things like platforms fails to spawn, so it's a useless glitch, but I saved a few more rocks to fight the WARRIOR SPIRIT now, so, that's that. edit; and here it is, 7391 frames faster; http://tasvideos.org/4098S.html
