If you managed to get all the Secret Cards then you open up the way to a 3-level bonus world. If you beat that the game gives you 50 lives or something I think. No new ending or anything, and getting the OTHER left-over cards don't give you anything special. Of course, a 100% run is a 100% run, so it may be neat to see. I always found McKids to be a neat game, despite a shameless McDonald's advertisment. It employed a lot of really nifty gameplay mechanics, unfortunately it never USED them very well, there were so many potentially great things that could have been done, but the overall game is rather easy. It's the type of game a Level Editor and a creative person could well serve. :>

I agree. The game is awesome despite that it's a big commercial game.

Absolutely. Someone needs to make a hacking/editing tool for this game to the same extent as those for the Mario games. Also, needs more boss fights.
I like my "thank you"s in monetary form.

Well then. I'll do a 100% run when I get in the mood again.

I started working on a new run some time ago, but stopped again due to lost motivation and fading interest in TASing. I thought I could share the WIP of the 100% run. Useful RAM addresses You can accelare to the top speed in the beginning of each level by jumping and touching ground as little as possible (touching the ground reduces speed a bit every time), same goes for slopes. I hope someone improves my runs, as they are quite improvable. I don't think my WIP is perfet either. If someone has some questions, contact me via e-mail as I don't browse these forums anymore.

Except, in your infinite wisdom, it isn't in the most logical place to look for it (your forum profile).

I actually started tasing this game (the any% run) some days ago, and compared to the WIP I got better times in all levels we both played using some small detail tricks. I thought it might be best announcing this so people doesn't independently start runs of this game. If somone would like to co-operate or tas the 100% run (which I don't know if I'll do yet), pm me and I'll share with some tricks I've learnt on the way.

Hey Aglar, just wondering if you had some sort of 100% WIP or something for this game? I mean, the 100% TAS is so old, took me 4 minutes to save 58 frames: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LClNa_1dc2s

I never started a 100% run but I tried out that particular level just now: http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/793045876/MC%20Kids%20%28U%29Level2.fm2 Taking dammage at the start doesn't save time as the speed-management works quite strange in this game. Any value between 121 and 127 makes you move at the highest speed. You obviously would've noticed this though, as you only did a quick test.

So, I started a 100 % run a couple of years ago or so and didn't finish even the first world. It's a lot faster than the currently published 100 % run and a bit faster than Aglar's any % run. So if anyone is up to improving the 100 % run, here's my WIP: https://www.dropbox.com/s/od0x7xzacc7oplc/Brushy_mckidsfull.bk2?dl=0. Have fun!

I tried TASing this game a while ago. I didn't make any real progress because I'm horrible at committing to projects even to this day but I did find a trick: if you kill yourself when you touch the goal it replaces the little "you win" jingle with the "you died" jingle, which saves a bit of time. Unfortunately it takes away a life every time it's used, so future TASes of this game will have to use life management and adjust routes to pick up 1ups... sorry if I make this game sound more intimidating now, but it's all in the name of saving those frames!

Hey! I saw that a new updated movie of this was published recently, and in the author notes, they mentioned that jumping increased your acceleration. In the movie around 12 minutes and 13 seconds in (the first Professor level) the player character runs to the left to retrieve a card, then turns around and runs to the right--without jumping! Why didn't they do the jump-to-accelerate thing there?

You can't do that trick if you don't have a slope or start from roomtransition. Otherwise you could be flying at top speed whenever you jump. Also, grapping an item doesn't reset your speed to 0, so it wouldn't be the proper conditions for the trick anyway.

Thank you for the quick response & detailed explanation! :)
