Unless he played through the level with one character constantly taking damage, it would probably take more time attempting to kill off a character than to go through the ship moving. The point is moot, though, because if a character dies you are sent back to the control room. You would then choose another character and start the level all over again.

I don't suppose you could try dying in the 'after-shuttle' area to get it loaded properly? [/clueless] Been a while since there was a genuine "death as shortcut" than death-warping backwards.
That actually can't work, aside from what stickyman pointed out, BUT once you skip the shuttle there is no real way to die, even if you drop into the pit you just land on the floor and can walk around. It would be nice if you could trick the game into thinking the sequence is complete by killing just the first guy, or making the game spawn all troopers at once.

wolv can kill himself by running out of mutant power.

Is that the end of your post, or were you going to include a point?

http://speeddemosarchive.com/XMenGenesis.html I forgot to put this up once the run was approved, but there it is now. Just ignore the blatant screw-up on lvl 4. Now all we need is the newer gens recording format and you'll be able to steal all of my work from me :)

I was working on this game for a little bit a while ago and then forgot about it or gave up. I just noticed this thread today and am frustrated that none of the WIP links for the first level seem to work so I have nothing to compare to. Does anyone have a WIP they can show off? I think I did a reasonable job at this, but I get the feeling someone probably found a way to be faster.

First off, don't bother looking at ANY of my WIPs. They suck horribly. *cringe* When I clicked on my very first post, the link did take me straight to DeHaCked's site, so I guess I am not getting the same problem as you? Jaysmad had some excellent WIPs, so I assume his last one is the one to watch.

Might as well post what I have: http://www.heisanevilgenius.com/X-Men.gmv I wasn't aware of the Juggernaut skip and I'm pretty sure there are one or two places that can be done better (like the level 1 boss). Just thought I'd get the ball rolling.

Is there a new Gens version out that supports soft-reset recording? Without it, making a run would not be advisable. If there is ever a new version of Gens, it may not support the current version's .gmv. Desynchs and other great fun would await!

If you're seriously considering getting this run done, check out my real-time run first here. That run has every skip that we were able to find along with all of the fastest tactics available. I'd assume in a TAS environment you could easily shave off almost 2 full minutes from more accurate jumping and a more aggressive strat. But like Sticky said, without a new recording format we can't pass lvl 5 since you have to "reset the console" to continue :(

Time for some Necro posting. Link to video A-Frame discovered a huge time save where you no longer have to enter the lighthouse to fight Apoc.

So I did some research. The glitch occurs when playing as Gambit, for whatever reason if you press the A button on the very first frame after loading a new area, the level just ends. This can be used to skip the first two levels entirely, but it doesn’t work on every transition. For one, the first screen of the lighthouse still has to be played, but the screen transition at the end will let you perform the glitch. This make sub 5 minutes possible, as 2 runners have already done so.
