Now when Jyzero had released a new version of Gens(9d) that has "Start from a Statefile" I am more then happy to show you all guys the mysterious "Wily Tower".
Unfortunally this movie breaks one of the first rule on this site. It is started from a statefile. But what to do when you cant get there normaly?
I would like to thanx Joseph Tek Fox and Auto for the hacking of the statefile to Genecyst that is avalible at Zophar's Domain. Without it this wouldnt be possible. But why did you guys hacked the European version? =( The music in 50hz feels like slowmotion and I think the music is really good in this game.
Okay.. some notes of the game. Wily Tower contains 3 main bosses. Buster Rod-G, Mega Water-S and Hyper Storm-H, each characters is very odd compares from the other games. E.i Hyper Storm that has 2 energybars and so on.
Please read the difference between the NES and the GENESIS version at http://www.mmhp.net/GameHints/MMWW.html There is a huge differice between them.
Anyway. On my jouney I took the following weapons: Magnetman, Woodman, clashman, iceman, bombman, geminiman, Elecman and Fireman And following Items: Magnetbeam, Rush jet and Rush coil.
A "rule" that I had when I worked on this was: The time delay between the shoots has been inceased in this cartridge. So that means it is nearly impossible to kill an enemy while in "speed". Soo if you cant kill it, "Regaining motion when hurt with select/pause" through it.
Trying to manipulate the drops from the enemies is nearly impossible so forget it. It's like its already has been choosen for the stage.
I have Rockman 1, 2 and 3 here if some someone like to see the whole serie.
They are made with the "rockman megaworld(j)(!)" rom.

DeHackEd: Don't use phpBB mark-up for these.

Truncated: My opinion of this submission is:
  • It breaks a rule by beginning from a savestate. This was the only solution at the time, so it's not that strange, but a new solution has come forward, so there is no reason to accept this under current circumstances.
  • It's not very well played. The bosses obviously stop blinking several times. The weapons could have been chosen better.
  • The constant pausing which takes foreever is disruptive and annoying.
For these reasons, I am rejecting this submission.
There is of course the option of playing all the Mega Men from 1-3. I would advice anyone who is thinking of doing that to ask first to see if people would really like to see that. Probably a better idea is to run it from SRAM now that we know of a ROM that can handle it.
My opinions on this game:
I for one wouldn't want to watch slower and less spectacular versions of the truly extraordinary runs we have for NES (just this would probably be almost 2 hours), and finish it off with running a few levels which are mishmash of three games, have no sense of continuity, and look like christmas. Over all I think this game is an abomination.

I played through this awhile ago myself, so at least everything seems familiar. There doesn't seem to be anything wrong with your execution, or your weapons selected. I did wonder about a couple of things, though. Could you have thrown bombs during the first battle with Buster Rod G faster? I noticed there was a bit of a delay after he became vulnerable again, or is it necessary to wait that long for some reason? Also, during the battle against the first Wily Tower boss, the fire snake thingy, could you have shot it as it was jumping over the platform, or is it invincible there? It seemed like it was wide open, but you didn't take the shot, so I assume it couldn't be hurt. Aside from that, I'll refrain for voting for the moment, due to the nature of it being a start-from-savestate movie, but I'd vote yes otherwise.

Voted too yes. But not sure if this will be accepted, because rule is rule. But when you can't reach this area, then it should be accepted. And its well played. So Yes from me.

Rule should be broken this time for the specific problem to see the end of the game. But could you explain on your link to download 1-3 partial movie files, such as: http://frenom,areta.org/smv/rockman-megaworld(J)(!)-rockman1.gmv

Also I suggest you use an English version for publishing part1-3 (eg.Mega Man - The Wily Wars (E) ), so that there might not have much language obstacle...

The Links are all wrong. But just change the "," to a "." and it work. Wrong Links: http://frenom,areta.org/... Right Links: http://frenom.areta.org/... Or here copy these complete in the address bar (I can't make them clickable): http://frenom.areta.org/smv/rockman-megaworld(J)(!)-rockman1.gmv http://frenom.areta.org/smv/rockman-megaworld(J)(!)-rockman2.gmv http://frenom.areta.org/smv/rockman-megaworld(J)(!)-rockman3.gmv

It's a lot faster using Bubble Lead on the fire monster. Couldn't you replace Gemini Laser with Bubble Lead? I was using rush jet and when I got hit I went forward very fast. Is there some way to use that to save time?

Thanks all for your comments.

If I find an another weapon that is faster I would gladly to change to that since I hate the Bombs. The Bombs has a very long delay until you can fire it again. So it is kinda slow.

Thats right. He cannot be hurt when he jumps to the other side.

Yeah I know. The Cartrigde has a save problem or if it is the chip, I dont know. Wonderboy V has the same problem.

Well.. you can't use E on them since they are made with the J/60hz version. And it is only on japanese when you got a new weapon.

I'll guess I was in a hurry when I wrote thoose links. It's supposed to be http://frenom.areta.org/smv/rockman-megaworld(J)(!)-rockman1.gmv and if it was the game descriptions you asked for they could be found here. http://frenom.areta.org/smv/rockman-megaworld(J)(!)-rockman1.txt http://frenom.areta.org/smv/rockman-megaworld(J)(!)-rockman2.txt http://frenom.areta.org/smv/rockman-megaworld(J)(!)-rockman3.txt I did 1, 2 and 3 in a attemp to reach "Wily Tower" for a long time ago. But I faild to reach it. And I could'nt find the U version of the game. That's why I use the Japanese version.

Yeah I could. But sience this movie is breaking one of the first ruels on this site and cannot be allowed I leave it as it is. If they decide to accept it I'll might reconsider my decision. But thanks for your advice =)

Oh, I have forgotten this. I think I discovered this when I did RM3 for along time ago. Thanks for reminding me.

Hey Frenom, I watched all four of these runs (MMWW Wily Tower, RMMW Rockman 1-3) and I think you did a good job with all of them. This was honestly my first venture into watching a new TAS in an emulator before it was published as an AVI, and I used the wrong ROM for Wily Tower. It desynced in Mega Water-S's stage, but still finished it! ... then got stuck on the stage select screen. Was very odd. But, I did find the correct ROM, and as I said, I think you did a good job. This is likely one of those cases in which it can be improved, but nobody's made any noise about doing it at all -- I'm voting "yes" on this as a result, and I hope that it starting from a savestate is allowed due to a problem with the ROM not saving data and normally denying access to the Wily Tower. Also, I would like to suggest that you submit the Rockman Megaworld RM1-3 runs individually. I know most people don't like to see "multiple system versions of the same game," but there is a case to be made here that they are different enough from the NES versions to be considered games of their own.

I would have watched the movie, but it wouldn't work for me. It looked like the save state was too messed up to do anything. But maybe it's my computer, or maybe I used the wrong version of Gens (It's 9e, right?). When I try to start the game normally on this computer, it freezes at the copyright screen.

I'll see what I do. I made thoose for almost a year ago and they can highly be improved. So I should redo them before submiting them.

Are you sure that you used the right rom? This happens when you try to run it on the J version. Is there a F version out now?

Yeah, that was it. I assumed you used the J ROM. This movie is okay, but I think the ideal would be a run through all four games in a row. Is that possible?

unfortunately not. The game/rom(s) has a save error or something like that. So you cant reach Wily Tower normally. You can on the original but not on the rom versions. This was discussed somewhere. But I cannot recall where though.

The way to do it would be to hack the ROM to allow access to all four right from the start. There is a "cracked" ROM of the PAL version, but I've yet to figure out what, exactly is so cracked about it. I would love to see improved versions of the normal three games, Frenom. I was actually wondering if the "fast through the wall" techniques from the NES games will work here. It looks like the RM1 version of this bug involving the Magnet Beam does not, but the Items in RM2 behave differently (obviously)... so this should be interesting. Am I the only person who thinks RM3/MM3 is actually somewhat difficult in this version, since bosses and even basic enemies can't take damage as quickly as they do on the NES?

Well, is the fault in the ROM or the emulator? Or both?

Could be both, but I'll say "Fault of the ROM", since the SRAM is stripped from it, even though it's been good-dumped. That's my most positive assumption, but there might be an emulator problem too. The same thing happened with Sonic 3 & Knuckles, until Gens v9 (or earlier) managed to create SRAMs from said ROM. I couldn't save a S3&K SRAM with Genecyst back in the late 90's, so I'm sorta glad the SRAM got fixed for it. But I was hoping for the (J) Rockman Megaworld to be hacked... but I know Joseph Collins and Auto personally (Joseph's a moderator at my place and Auto's constantly idle to be honest, but anyways...), so I can ask them to hack the (J) version whenever they get the time. Oh well, I still loved this run, Frenom. I've played through the Wily Tower countless times myself, and I say that this is a flawless run, even though you had to use the pause/damage technique alot of time (and thus, bored me a bit)... I liked the way you utilized the weapons at the bosses. I'd have to borrow some of your tips and tricks for my own personal winning someday. *smirk* X3 Anyways, besides having to amend to the rules, I'm still voting Yes because it's hard to top this run and... because it's MegaMan. Once again, good work, Frenom. ^^;

Is there a discussion forum for your 3 Original Mega Man Runs? I would like to comment about them.

Ugh. You could discuss them in the Genesis Games Board if you like, there is a Rockman Megaworld thread there. But they are kinda old, crappy and rusty, dont mind them. =] If someone want to hack the J rom they are welcome. I would be glad =)

Hey, Frenom. Joseph and Auto weren't really responsible for the (E) hack, but they have the knowledge. They used someone else's save editor tool, yet their names got credited on Zophar instead. If Joseph had some form of a Genesis HEX tool or anything that can change variables on GameShark type codes, he could hack it for us.... probably...

Things really aren't going well. With the limited resources I have(SuGAR, DGen, and GENS), I don't think I'm going to be able to find the proper line(s) of code to enable me to make an Action Replay code(and in turn, a ROM hack). If I had something to go on. . . Any small trace. . . A value of some sort to go by. The initial value of the Game Select counter. It doesn't seem to be 0 like you'd figure. . .(IE like Capcom does in their fighting games and whatnot. Which is how I found the hex code to play as Shin Gouki in the Super Famicom version of Street Fighter Zero 2, actually. . .) I dunno. . . In the meantime, however! Nightmare Zero has indirectly provided me with the path to Wily Tower in both Rockman MegaWorld and Mega Man: The Wily Wars. Through his program, Save State Master v9.0, I made this bugger. This will plop you right on the Stage Select screen of Wily Tower after a brief black screen intro(caused by a game over, which was a necessary thing to do to get this). As stated, this save state is for Rockman Megaworld only. Make a new one for The Wily Wars with the aforementioned program, if you want a Wily Wars one. =P Edit: And please. Seriously. Don't credit me or Auto. As it turns out, Auto handed the file to me a long time ago, but there's a good chance that Nightmare Zero handed it to him in the first place. If anyone deserves credit around here, it's him. Had I known that at the time, I wouldn't've sent the file off to Zophar's Domain. Edit 2: No wonder no one's said anything since I posted that. . . The URL was busted. Well, it's been changed to a correct URL, now. Specifically: http://ironfeline.org/btime/NSStuff/RMWTower.zip
I'm not that hard to find... if you know where to look. -=( http://jolikmc.tumblr.com )=-
