In this Tool assisted speedrun we beat Adventure for the Atari 2600 in under 30 seconds useing clever glitches

Game objectives

  • Emulator used: Bizhawk 2.6.3
  • Beat 1 level of the game as fast as possible
Longer explanation:At the start we go down to the black key and put it below the screen so that it wraps around the map to go into the room we need to go. We then reset the console(doing this only teleports us back to the start it doesn't accualy reset progress). Then we go up to where there is this purple thing that lets you go through walls, we use this to get the black key and unlock the door we need to go through to get the trophy, then with the trophy we use the purple thingy to quickly go back to the start room we need to go to to beat the level
(I tryed my best im not good at explanations)

Other comments

Possible improvement: there are a few times where we need to slow down to pick up items due to item cycles, the game can only render 3 sprites at a time, so if there is more then 3 sprites in a room they cycle through disipering maybe if you could manipulate the order of what items dislper(I tried but couldint find away) you wouldint need to wait

Samsara: Judging, and file replaced with an ACTUALLY trimmed version.
Samsara: File replaced with a 6 frame improvement.
Samsara: Wow, this really came out of nowhere and surprised me! Cutting nearly 4 seconds off of a 31 second run of a 41 year old game is one of the things I love most about the evolving nature of speedrunning and TASing as artforms. Excellent usage of the bridge to save time wherever possible, somehow for an item that essentially lets you walk through walls I never imagined it could be used the way it is in this run.
I believe a run of all 3 "levels" in this game would obsolete this due to content overlap, similar to Private Eye having a TAS of a single case obsoleted by one with all 5 cases. I'm mentioning this since I know you were working on that, asking for help on the 3rd level. If you're still interested in that, feel free to upload that file to Userfiles and someone (likely me, since I was already messing around with things while judging this run) can take a look at it for you.
Either way, great work on your first submission, and now your first publication! Accepting as an improvement to the published run!

so the new trick is a mid-game reset? I didn't know that was a technique on the 2600.

Looks great! I didn't expect the trick with the black key, and the screen wrapping you do with the purple item, whatever it's called, is really cool.

User movie #76340540518472326 I found a 6 frame improvement at the very end while taking a look at the run. Don't worry, it's not going to impact the fate of the submission as the rest of it is very very clean, but I'd recommend taking another quick look at the full run just to make sure there's nothing else left to improve. I can replace the file with my improvement or any other improvement you might come across, just let me know and it'll be done. EDIT: I've gone ahead and replaced the submission with my userfile at the author's request. Since it's a very small improvement with hardly any impact on the look of the run, I've elected not to take co-authorship credit.

Okay. that was seriously awesome, and hilarious. This ranks right up there with a boy and his blob for crazy brokenness.
