Rocky the Rhino is on a quest to quench his thirst, having eaten too many peppers at a jungle party. In this platform game for the Gameboy Color, the player guides Rocky to a waterfall in each of 18 levels across 6 areas.

Game objectives

  • Emulator used: Bizhawk 2.7
  • Beat the game as fast as possible.

Comments

  • It's possible to go out of bounds in certain areas of the game, but other than one spot I haven't found that it saves time.
  • It's usually faster to jump over enemies or otherwise move around them. Firing at or faceplanting them adds costly lag frames.

ThunderAxe31: Claiming for judging.
ThunderAxe31: File replaced with a GBA-mode conversion that adds 200 frames of GBC BIOS sequence at startup. All other inputs are unchanged.
ThunderAxe31: While this is a cute and simple game, it also has a lot of optimization challenges that don't meet the eye. I check all the places that looked questionable at first sight, and I could confirm that this movie is well optimized. It also beats the relative RTA WR for fastest completion. As such, accepting for Standard.

Here is a resync of the movie with the GBC-AGB BIOS activated. I didn't need to change anything. Be sure to check it: User movie #637782312281436525 I also replaced the name of the author and the rerecord count.

Oh hey, I've been waiting for a TAS of this game for a while now. This looked quite good. I could see some slowdown in some places, but I remember most of the levels being a massive pain to navigate due to how cramped everything is and the game's physics. I couldn't really spot any improvements. Yes vote.

ninespaces, do you agree to replace the submitted file with this one? Note that including the BIOS sequence is recommended, for being more faithful to the real console. The 200 extra frames aren't considered when comparing records.
my personal page - my YouTube channel - my GitHub - my Discord: thunderaxe31 <Masterjun> if you look at the "NES" in a weird angle, it actually clearly says "GBA"

Sure! And thank you, ViGadeomes, for doing that.

This was a surprisingly fun TAS to watch, considering that this is a GBC game I've never heard of. Having a fantastic soundtrack definitely helped, too. "Yes" vote from me!
Current project: Gex 3 any% Paused: Gex 64 any% There are no N64 emulators. Just SM64 emulators with hacky support for all the other games.
