BC's Quest For Tires: Grog's Revenge (Colecovision)

Thor has completed his Quest for Tires. Now he must discover the Meaning Of Life, hidden away somewhere in a long maze of mountains.
The perilous roads around the mountains are covered with clams. Thor must gather 100 clams as he wheels his way along the roads, then use the clams to pay Peter, the toll-taker, and advance to the next mountain.
The only way to the toll booth is through dark, scary caves. There are lots of clams in the caves for Thor to collect, but there are also sharp stalagmites to watch out for. Keep Thor's headlight sweeping back and forth for maximum clams.
Out of the cave, watch out for the grouchy Grog, who "shellfishly" saves clams for himself. And free-wheellng Thor must also contend with rocks, potholes and wheal-eating Tiredactyls in his quest for clams and the Meaning Of Life!

Effort In TASing

A few years ago, I had started working on Grog's Revenge for the Commodore 64, but that version has a lot of difference and problems that I need to figure out. I have had this TAS done for awhile and I just can't figure out any way to make it faster. There is only one issue...crossing paths with Grog on a level near the end. I had to basically wait for a few seconds before entering a tunnel. Having thought on this for a while, I realized that a solution is not surfacing for me to get past the only problem faster.

ROM Issue

Originally, I had started with the ROM "BC's Quest for Tires II - Grog's Revenge (1984) (32k).col". Near the end, the game started freaking out. Bizhawk's hash, was showing confirmed...but I eventually had to go with "BC's Quest for Tires II - Grog's Revenge (1984) (24k) [a1].col"...which ended off fine. This ROM also showed a correct has in Bizhawk, which is why I decided to go with it.

Human Comparison

This run doesn't make it all the way to the end, but should give a good example of the differences between my TAS and a human.

Darkman425: Wheelin' and dealin' some judgments.
Darkman425: This looks good to me. Accepting to Standard.

despoa: Processing...

For some reason, your movie's SHA1 differed from the [a1] RomHash, but I got it to sync on the standard [a1] as cataloged for this submission with hash 9FDD739A05F496837946F42C3EF08EBE7DF142DC. Pretty fast-paced movie, though pretty repetitive also. I liked it though, reminded me of Dragonfire.

I've been holding on to this TAS for a while now. Maybe I've remembering wrong. At least you confirmed it. Thanks.
I recently discovered that if you haven't reached a level of frustration with TASing any game, then you haven't done your due diligence. ---- SOYZA: Are you playing a game? NYMX: I'm not playing a game, I'm TASing. SOYZA: Oh...so its not a game...Its for real? ---- Anybody got a Quantum computer I can borrow for 20 minutes? Nevermind...eien's 64 core machine will do. :) ---- BOTing will be the end of all games. --NYMX

Looks like a pretty hard dodging game when played at max speed! Too bad about the one wait, but it doesn't seem like there's much to manipulate here.

Yeah, that was the sole reason for holding off on submitting. I was hoping to come up with something. As I've noticed...most Colecovision games don't control RNG like the C64. In this case, Grog has a mission of his own. I could have turned the corner of his place and lured him, but that would have been longer than the wait at that one spot. Oh well...
