EDIT: Tompa has since improved this TAS by 132 frames - https://tasvideos.org/UserFiles/Info/638378277199737754

About the Game

Pringles is a 2009 Sega Genesis / Mega Drive homebrew platformer about... well, Pringles. It has 9 levels, which are split into 3 worlds, no music and only 3 sound effects. You play as the pre-simplicity era Pringles mascot who has to bounce on Pringles to reach the goal in every level.
2 of the world names are misspelt. Basil & Tomato is & Basil Tomato and Black Pepper is Brack Papper. The first world, Sour Cream & Onion is spelt correctly. I'll be referring to the world names with their correct spellings.

About the TAS

This TAS aims to reach the goal in all 9 levels as fast as possible, regardless of what rank we get.

The Improvement

This is a 2.55 second improvement over the current publication, thanks to some new strategies from Tompa, as well as better lag reduction and a fixed movement error in Basil & Tomato 1.
Most of this improvement was in Black Pepper, with new strategies for every level thanks to Tompa:
  • Black Pepper 1: A well-timed bounce off of a Pringle let him skip the entire downwards vertical section, saving 63 frames.
  • Black Pepper 2: A new, off-course route was discovered with the Pringles cans, saving 35 frames.
  • Black Pepper 3: A more direct route to the first turnaround, again involving the Pringles cans, saved 26 frames.
The other 31 frames saved are unnoticeable to the naked eye, mainly lag reduction. Tompa discovered a few months ago that when Mr Pringles' speed is 0, the game lags 1 frame less than if he's moving. This is used to save small amounts of time here and there during vertical sections.
I initially saved 19 frames with lag reduction, then Tompa optimised my lag reductions by a further 9 frames.
As for the fixed movement error, I placed a left input 1 frame later than I should've, like this:
L

LR
R
That quick fix saved 2 frames.
The final frame was a fixed menuing error while selecting Basil & Tomato 3.
That's all from us. Thanks for reading.

nymx: Claiming for judging.
nymx: Replacing with an improvement by Tompa.
nymx: I can see how this game can be a real challenge to cut frames. Good job on the improvements.

despoa: Processing...
