OK guys, I'm sure some of you already know about this, but it's EXTREMELY important. Reason being, most Genesis games have upwards of 3 or 4 versions (some can reach 8 or 9, I think), whereas NES and SNES games tend to only have 1-3 versions usually.
An example of this is the Quackshot timeattack that was just posted here. It only works with Revision 00 of the game, as in Revision 01 it desyncs after a little while.
For those who don't know how to do this, here are some instructions:
1. Download GoodGen from
Zophar's Domain or another such site.
2. Unzip everything to C:\GoodGen
3. Place all of your ROMs in that GoodGen folder.
4. Go to Run and type in "command.com" to open up a DOS prompt.
5. Type "cd\" to go to the C drive, then "cd\GoodGen" to get into that directory.
6. Type "goodgen rename", and after a little while all your ROMs will have proper names.
7. Said ROMs will be in C:\GoodGen\GenRen , so place them back into your ROM folder. And there you have it.
EDIT: Or alternately, as several people have noted, you can use a program like GoodGUI or GoodWindows to simplify the task greatly.
Hoping this doesn't break any forum rules,
Josh.
