eien86: Claiming for judging.

eien86: Gunforce is a nice Contra Arcade lookalike. Here, Pepper-Color beats the game in 5:45.97, around 15 seconds faster than the current RTA record.
We have tried some quick ideas to improve on the movie but did not immediately succeed:
  • I thought the orange player lost time by climbing the stairs before the first boss. However this was necessary to get the bazooka.
  • Spike mentioned several possible improvements. However, it is not evident that all of these are implementable (e.g., they have checked the first point but did not come to an improvement).
  • CoolHandMike noticed that there are several unnecessary jumps, which pause movement for a couple frames. This is so far the only clear time loss we've found, but is not evident to a casual movie watcher.
All in all, the movie seems to meet our criteria for optimization. Personally, I found it pretty entertaining.

Neat run. The game seems like a Contra knockoff, complete with a Base boss in Stage 2, a vertical climber in Stage 3, and a final boss in the middle of the screen's right boundary that doesn't move.
Used to be a frequent submissions commenter. My new computer has had some issues running emulators, so I've been here more sporadically. Still haven't gotten around to actually TASing yet... I was going to improve Kid Dracula for GB. It seems I was beaten to it, though, with a recent awesome run by Hetfield90 and StarvinStruthers. (http://tasvideos.org/2928M.html.) Thanks to goofydylan8 for running Gargoyle's Quest 2 because I mentioned the game! (http://tasvideos.org/2001M.html) Thanks to feos and MESHUGGAH for taking up runs of Duck Tales 2 because of my old signature! Thanks also to Samsara for finishing a Treasure Master run. From the submission comments:

I would also say there's some Metal Slug influence, with how you can regularly destroy and commandeer enemy vehicles...

Stage 1 has visible questionable vehicle management where opting for Player 1 to be in the car may have been the better option. There's also questionable gunplay on the boss of this stage, and you can spawn the boss sooner than you did. Stage 2 has questionable gunplay on the boss of this stage, and you can spawn the boss sooner than you did. Stage 3 has a visible questionable shot on the boss of this stage, you flick right on player 1 to shoot the far right satellite dish that theoretically should've been defeated. There's also questionable ammunition management here. Stage 4 likes to desync when played back in TAStudio at random spots, but it looks fine. Stage 5 and Final. I didn't look at closer due to above, but from a visible perspective it looks fine. The TAS looks like you were still learning how the game operates and once you were reached the end you have an understanding how the game works. Abstained vote.

That's actually the other way around—Gunforce came out five years before the first Metal Slug. Though calling it "influence" isn't entirely accurate either, the team that made the two Gunforce games and In the Hunt left Irem after having made Gunforce 2 and formed Nazca Corporation, who made the first Metal Slug game before being acquired by and merged into SNK. So Gunforce is more like the proto-Metal Slug.

Is it okay if I add extra input at the end that adds names to the high score screen? If so, what names do you think I should put?
