Rhythm Heaven is the second game in the Rhythm Heaven series, following Rhythm Heaven. It was developed by N I N T E N D O S O F T W A R E P L A N N I N G & D E V E L O P M E N T P R O D U C T I O N G R O U P N O . 1, who are also known for developing classic games such as Metroid: Other M, and some weird garbage thing called like War Yo Wear, which I can only imagine is a fighting game series about fashion models or something. N I N T E N D O S O F T W A R E P L A N N I N G & D E V E L O P M E N T P R O D U C T I O N G R O U P N O . 1, along with N I N T E N D O S O F T W A R E P L A N N I N G & D E V E L O P M E N T P R O D U C T I O N G R O U P N O . 2, N I N T E N D O S O F T W A R E P L A N N I N G & D E V E L O P M E N T P R O D U C T I O N G R O U P N O . 3, and N I N T E N D O S O F T W A R E P L A N N I N G & D E V E L O P M E N T P R O D U C T I O N G R O U P N O . 4, later merged with N I N T E N D O E N T E R T A I M E N T A N A L Y S I S & D E V E L O P M E N T to form N I N T E N D O E N T E R T A I M E N T P L A N N I N G & D E V E L O P M E N T. I hear they made some games. Going through their back catalog, I don't see anything all that speci-OH HELL YEAH, SUSHI STRIKER, YOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
I'm incredibly in love with the Rhythm Heaven series. I like me some rhythm games, even though I'm not very good at them, and Rhythm Heaven is in this really beautiful niche of rhythm games where it sacrifices challenge for pure vibes. In a world where charters meticulously bind every single sound louder than an ant's fart to anywhere between one and thirteen separate notes, Rhythm Heaven is based more on just the principles of teaching rhythm itself, remaining totally accessible and being super charming.
I haven't finished the run at the time of writing these notes. I could make my usual (NOTE TO SELF: REMOVE THIS BEFORE SUBMISSION) joke, but I could also try being funny for once.

Stage by stage comments

Buckle up, Buttercup, there's 50 of these to get through.

Built to Scale

Built to Scale tells the tale of Built, a young man who knows how to handle rods, and his journey to reach Scale, a woman who can provide the holes for his rods. The joke is that this TAS is just Pia Carrot again.

Glee Club

The Glee Club is a traditional event at the UK's Liberal Democrat Federal Conference and the Liberal Assembly, consisting of attendees singing around a piano. It is a popular event in British politics and was a formative event in the lives of many British political leaders, including the former leader of the Labour Party, Michael Foot, amongst them. Foot described its opening song, "The Land", as the best political song he had come across, imbued with the democratic spirit, and designed to put fear in the hearts of the landlords. Although the Glee Club has informally existed for many years, in 1967 the first songbook (entitled After the Count was Over) was published by the National League of Young Liberals. Songbooks have been produced since the 1975 by Liberator, and in 2009 the 20th edition of the Liberator Songbook was published – the 27th songbook in its publishing history. It is often combined with the Liberal Revue, a series of sketches consisting mostly of in-jokes and irreverent takes on political matters.

even when the input's all crooked-y
i can show you how to TAS you know
i can show you how to get world records
i can take apart the assembly code

Remix 1

For those of you unfamiliar with Rhythm Heaven, remixes come at the end of each block of stages, and occasionally they're okay! This one has about as much variety as a kid's book about how to count to five. You'll never guess what happens at six! Neither will the kids. They don't know what six is yet.

Rhythm Rally

Rhythm Rally is the sequel to Paris-Dakar Rally Special. I'm using this section as a soapbox to try and get Stella to finish that TAS. That's right. You're honor-bound to finish it now. Samsara submission texts are legally binding documents. Do you know how many lawyers I hired to make that happen!? Here's a hint: Where do you think the "What do you call 10000 dead lawyers at the bottom of the sea?" joke originated? Answer coming in Rhythm Rally 2!

Shoot 'em Up

i did

Blue Birds

Moai Doo-Wop

Hey, which one of you jackasses sculpted a bow on the damn moai head? Was it you, Greg? Greg. Greg, tell me honestly. Was it you. You're the only one here who still subscribes to the idea that the only way to differentiate genders is to give one of them an accessory!
oh my god get out greg
i know we're in a plane right now
THE DOOR'S RIGHT THERE, GREG

Remix 2

I want to live in a world where there was anything to say about this remix that's funnier than the disturbingly low-pitched P E C K Y O U R B E A K.

Love Lizards

nintendo did you just put the words "you two came together at the end" followed by a picture of Child Having in a video game that children play
nintendo
nintendo,

Crop Stomp

CBT stands for Crop & Beet Torture.

Freeze Frame

Real fun fact: I would've done more playaround, but the only thing you can do is take a dang picture, and I worried about flashing lights. Don't think that I don't think about my viewers when I do a TAS thing! You'd be right, and I hate it when people other than me are right.

The Dazzles

Real fun fact: This is a bit of an infamous game, actually. Not necessarily because of the song, but because the sequel game later on has literally the exact same inputs as this one, with the only differences being a couple changed visual cues that still have the same timing as in the original. In fact, I'm sure you could copy-paste the inputs from this game into the sequel and have it work perfectly!

Remix 3

Watch the male lizard practice his rhythms.

MUNCHY MONK

YOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

DJ SCHOOL

YOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

DRUMMER DUEL

YOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

LOVE LAB

YOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

REMIX 4

YOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOH MY GOD GET THAT CLOWN OFF MY SCREEN IMMEDIATELY

Splashdown

Real fun fact: I was looking forward to this one, because I knew the exact joke I wanted to make, which was staying underwater as long as I could near the end while still getting a Superb, making the implication that my swimmer drowned, but missing a single input in this game ruins the Superb so I couldn't actually do that. Maybe Splashdown 2. Perhaps.

Big Rock Finish

this is one of the best minigames in Rhythm Heaven, don't you DARE AT ME, YOU KNOW I'M RIGHT

Dog Ninja

Air Blood.
That's it, that's the joke. That's all I got. All I got was Air Blood. That's all you get. That's all you're getting. All you are going to get is Air Blood. Man, kids these days, they just worry too much. Don't you know that that is...

Frog Hop

JUST
SO
SQUARE

Remix 5

I want to live in a world where there was anything to say about this remix that's funnier than the completely arbitrary "HERE WE GO" cue added before everything in the Dog Ninja sections.
Real fun fact: My marker for this song in TAStudio is labeled "post frog hop depression".

Space Soccer

when the boys show up and u know u gotta show off

Lockstep

THATS TOO MANY BOYS
STOP SHOWING OFF
OH GOD WHY ARE THERE SO MANY BOYS
JOHANN SEBASTIAN BACH THE HECH UP

Rockers

Real fun fact: The designs of the Rockers are based off of visual kei indie group Watashime Slug. Soshi, the group's vocalist, sang the best song in the original Rhythm Tengoku. I'm not putting any jokes here. WISH slaps too hard for me to joke about.
Rockers is a good minigame.

Karate Man

I'm not putting any jokes here either. Struck by the Rain slaps too hard for me to joke about.

Remix 6

Depending on how lazy I get in the final week before AFD, this may be the end of the run!!!

Built to Scale 2

Built continues his journey to reach Scale. You won't believe what happens at the end!

The Dazzles

Real fun fact: This is a bit of an infamous game, actually. Not necessarily because of the song, but because the sequel game later on has literally the exact same inputs as this one, with the only differences being a couple changed visual cues that still have the same timing as in the original. Rhythm Rally 2

Five.

Fillbots 2

i can keep rhythm with no metronome
no metronome
no metronome
and i can't make a TAS on my android phone
on my android phone
on my android phone
look at me, look at me
just called to say that it's good to be
alive, in such a small world
glad i don't gotta use DeSmuME
i can make money, open up a Patreon
i can make a living off my TASing
i can design some input: sixty-four frames to another GEG

Blue Birds 2

Suddenly, an army of banned users burst down the door to this submission text. "SAMSARA!" they all cry at once, followed by calling me a derogatory word that I'm not allowed to say in submission texts. "DON'T YOU DARE MAKE THIS SUBMISSION TEXT POLITICAL!" I scoff at them before they're swept out of here. I don't see any possible way to make something political out of this.

Lockstep 2

Real fun fact: The next game in the series, Rhythm Heaven Fever, has a game called Flock Step. It is the best minigame in the entire series. I'm not putting any jokes here. Flock Step slaps too hard for me to joke about.

Remix 8

Oh damnit, I already used "I'm not putting any jokes here. X slaps too hard for me to joke about" three times. It isn't funny the fourth time! Comedy works in threes! Heck!

Moai Two-Wop

"guys, i learned my les-"
GREG HOW THE ACTUAL GOOD GOD DAMN DID YOU WALK BACK THROUGH THE DOOR OF A MID-FLIGHT PLANE

Kara-Two Man

Let's be real, here. Karate Joe makes some good faces. Dude's a face makin', pot punchin' machine. I could have easily done another Frog Hop-esque bit with a very poorly upscaled picture of one of his faces, but honestly, if I was any more predictable as a human being, I would literally be deterministic.

Glee Club 2

The Glee Club 2 is a traditional event at the UK 2's Liberal Democrat 2 Federal Conference 2 and the Liberal Assembly 2, consisting of attendees singing around a piano. It is a popular event in Bri2ish politics and was a formative event in the lives of many Bri2ish political leaders, including the former leader of the Labour 2 Party, Michael Foot 2, amongst them. Foot 2 described its opening song, "The Land 2", as the best political song he had come across, imbued with the democratic spirit, and designed to put fear in the hearts of the landlords. YEE

and i can't stress this enough,

HAW

when the cowboys show up and u know u gotta show off

Remix 9

look there's still 6 songs left and i ran out of things to say at, like, glee club 1, give me a break here

Two-ot 'em Up

haha
toot 'em up
got 'em

Splashdown 2

SURPRISE, HECKERS, RULE OF THREE STILL IN EFFECT
oh btw cant drown here

MUNCHY MONK 2

this is literally the best thing in rhythm heaven DS
Real fun fact: I played trombone for a decade. If I didn't put off making this run until the last minute, and if I had any more confidence than "literally none", I would have recorded myself covering this and put it in the encode.

Rockers 2

Remix 10

yeah you're right, video game
you're right
._.

I only came across this submission after the discussion on #9201: yamalpaca0412's GBA Rhythm Tengoku "minimum presses" in 1:24:41.88. I feel like if that submission can go to playground, this one should too. This is actually a pretty good TAS, I suppose. (is gruefood delight still a thing)

IIIIIIIIII SUPPOSE! HEY! I was actually thinking about going back and redoing this run, inspired by the minimum presses Rhythm Heaven submissions. Pretty much the entire back half of the run was done in a rush the week before April Fools Day so there are parts that aren't as good as I could make them, and a lot of the earlier songs could use some more work, but as a megafan of the series I'd love to see more representation for it on the site.
