That might be the worst thread title I have ever come up with in my life.
Anyways, I was thinking about how as the site has grown, our methods of highlighting individual TASes has not really grown along with it. Stars is a rather difficult and selective process and awards are well once a year.
What if we had articles, or a podcast or whatever showcasing community members' favorite tases of that week/month or whatever? Why not have other sorts of content too? A twitch show? Interviews? Get some people in the community involved.
This thread is for discussion of potential types of content we could host. If you have an idea that you are personally willing to back, I ESPECIALLY want to hear that. If you're reasonably trustworthy, I'm definitely willing to consider giving you a shot.
This thread is ALSO for suggestions for a better thread title.

"Potential TASVideos Podcast"? "Potential TASVideos YouTube/Twitch Show"?
We already have the featured TAS section on the main page, why not just build off of that? (Short video explaining why it was featured, pointing out places where someone may be able to improve on it and optionally interviewing the TAS creator about the TAS and its creation process.)

When the 2024 TASVideos Awards was underway, I though about suggesting using the YouTube community posting function to get more activity to get a better spread of nominations and votes but I decided against it at the time. If there's a push for community highlights, events, and other TASVideos community related things, the community post function could work as a good way to get more exposure on said events (as far as using YouTube beyond a place for videos goes).
One of the ideas I've been considering for a while is doing some sort of "TAS jam" where for a given time frame folks are tasked to make a TAS of a given theme, such as a game series or a console. The main part I would want to emphasize is that anything done for that doesn't have to be super optimal or anything since the goal is to get new people to try out TASing if they haven't done so before or seasoned TASers to try out games they wouldn't normally consider to broaden their horizons. It'd be nice to try hosting a community event without the inherent pressure of trying to outdo someone in a game.
Can't help you on giving a better topic title. Sorry.

I really like this idea tbh. I imagine grabbing some NES or SNES homebrew game, BizHawk, and a stream! Show people the whole process to encode it and encourage them to upload it or even send them to our userfiles. Show people the process, guide them thru some basic techniques, and such. It would be a very cool idea to do in an event or something.
Regarding the rest of the options here, I think a monthly writeup/news roundup of notable TAS work (such as first submissions for a specific game, first publications from new users, etc) would help a lot. I've seen smilar things been done in communities such as Super Mario Kart to celebrate new runners! Feeling welcome and appreciated is what makes you more likely to come back with an improved run.
EDIT: Got inspired by this enough to try and do this myself! Keep in mind this is a proof-of-concept: https://tasvideos.org/HomePages/ikuyo/LoadState

I think another method that can be used at least on TASVidoesChannel side is by using the posts/community tab to highlight some movies of the previous week in the new week.
Something like, let's pretend today's the 9th of March. It would look at the week of the 23rd February:
Here's the top three rated Publications between 23rd February - 1st March 2025:
NES Lunar Pool "no friction, minimum strikes" by eien86 in 1:33:39.68 : links to site
DS Pokémon: Black Version by CasualPokePlayer in 2:49:11.29 : links to site
GBA Mother 3 by xxezrabxxx & radixsmash in 5:02:33.66 : links to site
Want to get involved in what is showcased?
Come to TASVideos.org and register an account today.
At least in this way it would be automated.
And then probably for a monthly highlights it would do it on the week after the end of the month, to at least (on our side) make sure the ratings are settled.
So posted on 7/8th of March you can have something like:
Here's the top ten rated Publications for the month of February 2025:
Pretend that I actually have 10 Publications listed here.
That work out onto the top rated Publications for that month

Also validate if TASVideos.org can link out-- it most likely can't cause YouTube meaning it'll probably be the full https://TASVideos.org/ Memory wrote:

Another thing that could probably be considered is highlighting one game, several ports.
Since people talk about "another port of Myst" for instance on YouTube whenever another Publication comes up (and a bit differently on Discord), we can have a little blurb about it.
Or personally the many ports of Prince of Persia (where it's actually different) and Another World (Out of This World) or even Donkey Kong (ports being different from one another as well) slowly racking up (actually more like "quickly").
This one might need more involvement with someone knowing the game or series to help out on information regarding differences.

I really like the idea of having monthly articles highlighting people's favourite TASes of the month. It could even be something that also highlights older TASes, a "TAS Spotlight" feature of some kind, where a community member writes an article highlighting a TAS on the site they really like and writing a bit about why. Interviews every now and then with community members about their work and history with the hobby also sounds like a great way to get more people interested in stuff.
Just as a point of reference, there used to be the Tool Assisted Podcast hosted by The8bitbeast and others. This might be useful as a reference point for how a podcast could look.
Another idea would be "Speedrun Explained" type content with a focus on TASes. That stuff tends to do well on youtube.
Also Re: TAS jam: For SGDQ 2015, there was the TAS race of Streemerz, where people were tasked with speed-TASing a short homebrew game in a few hours, for the fastest attempt to be shown on stage. That was an incredibly fun time.
Warning: When making decisions, I try to collect as much data as possible before actually deciding. I try to abstract away and see the principles behind real world events and people's opinions. I try to generalize them and turn into something clear and reusable. I hate depending on unpredictable and having to make lottery guesses. Any problem can be solved by systems thinking and acting.

Some more thoughts about this I posted in Discord the other day that I felt are relevant enough to post here also:
In general, for TAS-adjacent content, it's easier to start with what's already there. I would therefore consider linking to existing videos from speedrunning-focused content creators about TASing on the site (with permission). Any kind of "speedrun explained" or "record history" videos are good for this (although I don't know any great videos highlighting the history of specific TASes off-hand).
As for creating new content specifically the site, I'm sure there are people who would be interested in doing it, provided there's incentives for it. I'm not sure if that's a special cool forum rank just for you (which I honestly doubt would be enough for most people, especially if you're not even that active on the site) or anything else, I don't have any other great ideas for that part yet that don't involve outright paying people.
Another possibility is to highlight existing author's commentary more prominently. There's already a bunch of existing good commentary to pick from.
