"U NEED TO REST"

Note: The linked encode is of an older version of the TAS.
Edit: Improved user file here.

Objectives

  • 100% completion (kinda)
  • Emulator used: BizHawk 2.10
Famidash is a homebrew NES demake of the 2013 PC/mobile rhythm platformer game, Geometry Dash. When Version 1.2 of Famidash released, a "B-Sides" ROM was released alongside it, featuring 19 custom levels (and one seemingly infinitely-long test level, for some reason). This TAS aims to complete the 19 possible levels while collecting all possible coins.
If you want an explanation of this game and the mechanics behind the run, please read this submission. These submission notes will only talk about the levels that are exclusive to this run.

The Levels

The following notes will only discuss levels that have skips or other relevant information.
Some extra things before we start:
  • All levels are played in order except for "Ninox". That level is played last because it takes 533 frames for the icon to reach the end from final input, which is more than any other level in the game.
  • Not every level has 3 coins. "Aftermath" and “Slaughterhouse” have 0 coins. “Eon” has 3 coins, however, only two can be collected.

Sonar

Unlike this level's Geometry Dash counterpart, skipping the slow speed portal at the end isn't possible unfortunately.

Subtle Oddities

You can use the UFO to skip the robot portal, but you are eventually forced back in bounds. While you can skip the speed portal, the rest of the level isn't possible if you do so. I make sure to hit the speed portal on the last possible frame to save as many frames as possible.

High Life

Quite a few skips in the level. I do one at the first UFO and the next UFO (at the dark red section).
In the red flying section after, I'm able to skip more speed portals and the robot portal, allowing me to go through it faster. I still have to hit the speed portal in the green section though, since the level isn't possible if you skip it.
I can't skip the speed portals in the final wave section, even though it looks like you should be able to.

Speed Racer

This level has some laggy sections, causing the music to desync. After playing the level for a bit, we find a UFO portal and speed portal that we can just fly underneath, syncing the music back up!

Eon

The longest level in the game, being more than 5 minutes in length.
After the robot portal, I jump over the speed portal in the cube portal. I tried TASing this level on an older version of Famidash, and I wasn't able to beat the level after doing this skip. Surprisingly, it ended up working this time. As you can see, I had to get a little creative with surviving at a faster speed, having to go slightly off the path near the end and timing the last final yellow jump orbs in a specific way.
The final coin is impossible. If you jump too early, you hit the block. Jump anywhere after that, and you hit the spikes below no matter what.

Stalemate

No skips, but I intentionally skip a mini portal that makes my icon big at the beginning. That way I can touch the speed portal as late as possible.
You can skip the final speed portal before the last ball section, but it isn't possible to complete it.

Bloodbath

There's a speed portal near the beginning that I can just fly under. In the grey UFO part, I go off the path and skip another speed portal.
Later, there's a cube section with some gravity portals and speed portals that take me into a fast UFO section. The speed portal in the gravity portals makes you faster, so I want to hit, but but because I skipped some speed portals at the start of the level, my frame alignment is different. Thus, I am unable to hit this speed portal without dying. This is the only place in the TAS where I'm unable to hit a fast speed portal.
This ends up working in my favour however. After the ball section, I slide under a speed portal and then skip a speed portal inside a ship portal. This skip heavily relies on your frame alignment. If you're misaligned, you will either die on the spike after skipping the speed portal, or hit the speed portal. The rest of the level plays out as normal.
You can hit the fast speed portal by hitting the first speed portal I skipped, at the cost of losing time. However, this alters your frame alignment yet again, making it so that I can't skip the speed portal in the ship section. If I do this instead, I end up being 54 frames behind.

Cataclysm

Being mini allows me to skip the speed portal right before the second wave section. Despite being literally able to go through a wall though, I still touch the next speed portal.
No skips for the rest of the level. The part with the three blue pads was really annoying. For some reason it only works if you hold the button, which isn't the case in the original level. Why??? Needless to say, I was infuriated when I found out.
Edit: Just realized that this could be a frame alignment thing. Maybe the level works perfectly fine if you don’t skip any speed portals. I don’t know and I don’t really care to check.

AfterCataBath

This level is a combination of the levels "Cataclysm", "Bloodbath", and "Aftermath" back-to-back.
You'd think that since it's just the same three levels, the same skips apply. This isn't the case however. In the "Bloodbath" section, I touch the first speed portal I originally skipped (the one where you fly underneath the spike) and skip the fast speed portal that I couldn't grab before. This alters my frame alignment, and I also can't avoid the speed portal after the ball section. This alters my frame alignment yet again, making the ship skip possible. This intentional loss of speed saves five frames. There could potentially be a better way to do this, but this is the best I got for now.
In this level, the coins will first appear in their "Cataclysm" locations. If you miss a "Cataclysm" coin, it reappears later in the level in its "Bloodbath" position. You lose 6 frames of lag by picking up the second coin in Cataclysm, so I skip this coin and pick it up again in the "Bloodbath" location (this isn't shown in the encode).

Slaughterhouse

No skips but I just want to say this is a terrible level. Some of the wave timings are just impossible if you have the wrong vertical alignment. This was annoying to TAS on its own. I'd say I can't imagine the frustration that would come with trying to beat this in real-time, but let's be honest, no one is ever going to attempt this.
