I been following the TASes of Super Mario World, and they are really satisfying to watch. Inspired by the amazing recent TASes of SMW warps by Bruno Visnadi and Amaraticando, and 96 Exits by Bahamete, Kaizoman666 and Masterjun, Interested me to create a TAS. There are various categories(warps, any% etc.) but could not find any tases that were based on collecting dragon coins So I decided to TAS it

Lunar Dragon

This is a category common in RTA speedruns It aims to collect atleast 5 Dragon Coins each in a level (This also applies when you collect yoshi's wings and collect dragon coins), and all the moons, complete all 96 exits and finally defeat bowser

Level by Level comments

Yoshi's Island 2

Getting Yoshi from Yoshi block via double hit saves 32 frames over single hit, therefore getting it in YI2 instead of YI3 is faster by 11 frames

Yoshi's Island 3

I confess that I directly used Bruno Visnadi's warps TAS input here But it's okay for this video😁

Donut Plains 1(N)

A new way to collect cape feather quickly + Yoshi flight (+ about 30 frames) (this is Bruno Visnadi's idea)

Donut Plains 4

Improved strat by using pipe speed, keep Yoshi and collect dragon coins (+ 20 frames)

Vanilla Dome 1(N)

Slightly Improved Block Duplication and Keeping Yoshi for a better strat!(+ 5 frames)

Vanila Dome 2(S)

Used 96 Exit Strat but with Yoshi!(-11 frames)

Vanilla Dome 2(N)

Ceiling Clip at 2 places saves 4 and a half second of time There's another rare glitch:- Stunning a sprite using Yoshification! When Yoshi is despawned with a sprite in his mouth and then immediately the frame another sprite takes up the slot in which Yoshi was, it's possible to stun this sprite via Yoshification Whatever the sprite was in slot 0 gets stunned as a result. In this case a fish was spawned in slot 0 So a reznor was spawned in slot 7 and a chuck in either slot 4 or 5 or 6 Capespinning or diving to kill the chuck ends the level (saved more 1 and 1/2 second) The total timesave is 6 seconds This idea was used from: https://youtu.be/QQvJQMaBRb4?si=66UvcgjCtHzLS4ME

Star World 3(S)

It makes sense why I collected a cape feather in VD4 (+ 30 frames)

Star World 4(N)

Shell grabbed with Yoshi saves time(+ about 30 frames)

Awesome

A goal tape swap! (saves only 7 frames because I collected a fireflower costing 32 frames)

Groovy

Smartly using Yoshi and saying goodbye to Yoshi

Yoshi's Island 1

Used the pipe speed (+ 91 frames)

Donut Plains 1 (S)

Getting back Yoshi

Donut Secret 1(N and S)

Improved Yoshi Swimming (+ 120 frames)

Vanilla Secret 1(S)

Oh! There's a faster way to fly up! (+ 60 frames) How did 96 Exit TAS miss this?

Vanilla Secret 1(N)

Improved Block Duplication

Vanilla Secret 2

Since the fireflower was already collected in Awesome, no need to collect again (saved 32 frames)

Butter Bridge 1

One of the toughest Block Duplications - mid air duplication Highest amount of time gets saved here (17.5 seconds)

Forest Ghost House(N)

A powerup clip saved huge amount of time

Forest of Illusion 4(S)

Getting Back Lost Fireflower (-40 frames)

Forest Fortress

Timepass

Forest of Illusion 2(N)

Improved strat using Yoshi Clip

Forest of Illusion 3(N)

Grabbing a shell loses 10 frames but saves 40 frames via goal tape swap

Forest of Illusion 4(N)

Amaraticando's Aggradavel Strat saves 4 seconds over block duplication https://youtu.be/YU9pFIx2Skg?si=ENN6RyxGKtN_7M_7

Forest of Illusion 2(S)

Yoshi Clip (same as 96 exit strat)

Forest of Illusion 3(N)

Embedding a shell in the keyhole surroundings to hit a turn block saves 7 frames

Chocolate Island 2(S)

A slight improvement of 7 frames in the first room involves slowdown + using springboard as a ceiling to catch flight faster and gain 51 speed

Chocolate Secret

This level only has 1 dragon coin

Chocolate Island 2(N)

Getting Yoshi + Carrying a springboard in the 3rd room to use it as a ceiling to get flight and faster speed (+ 50 frames!!)

Chocolate Island 5

Improved Block Duplication

Sunken Ghost Ship

Tried to avoid lag as much as possible

Valley of Bowser 1

Getting a key using block duplication over dragon coin to do a ceiling clip (no idea about timesave)

Valley of Bowser 4

Wow! Using the shell from the first koopa saves 60 more frames! Now with better optimization and comparing with the 96 exit strat, the total timesave is 200 frames!

Bowser

Tried my best to entertain here

* Remarks:

Only level which was completed using Reznor Glitch: VD2; Only level which was completed using Boss Kill Glitch: VB4; Glitched Yoshi or Side Effect of Yoshification: SL; Took Damage: in FGH; Glitched pipe: FI4; Level Completed with a Firepower: Awesome; Goal Tape Swaps: Awesome, DS2, FI3, VB4; Highest Improvement: in FGH (about 25 seconds); Highest time spent in a level: BB1; Shortest time spent in a level: SW3; Yoshi Sacrificed for a good cause: VD2

Improvements

• Of course there are improvements in this run mainly improved block duplication and score plan to minimise lag • There improvements in Donut Plains 2(S) and Butter Bridge 2 by using flight https://youtu.be/YBu1uY540oM?si=zBjmc9Q40AsAtR5R • An optimised Yoshi clip is possible in FI2 saving about 54 frames in total

Thanks

For Amaraticando's Lua Script, really helpful for this run; 96 Exit TAS by Bahamete, Kaizoman666 and Masterjun for the amazing TAS! and Ideas; Bruno Visnadi for Ideas and Inspiration; Igor Oliveira's Dragon Coins TAS for Ideas

CoolHandMike: Claiming for judging.
CoolHandMike: Replacing with truncated file.
CoolHandMike: Looks optimized well, completes 96 exits and collects all the yoshi (lunar dragon) coins. I have to admit keeping track of all the level's yoshi coins was a little tricky since the path Mario takes to complete some levels loops back around. But good playing around in the down time in the levels which kept things fresh.
Accepting to Alternative.
Great job!

It's clear that this is your passion project, this run is awesome. I also like that you collect the Dragon Coins in the wing bonuses, which we usually only see for a few seconds before leaving. Great job, totally a yes vote!!

I haven't even watched the entire TAS yet, but what I've seen is enough to say this is a work of art. Very well done! Easy YES vote!

Hi, and welcome to the community! If I may say... First and foremost, I can see that you put really put a lot of work and care into this movie; from the optimization to the nuances for entertainment which speaks for itself. Very nice stuff! That being said, I found myself gradually losing interest the more Coin Heaven I saw as it was becoming a bit repetitive. That's not a knock on you, I promise! I understand that it's what was needed. It is likely me just hoping to see some creative solutions for levels that already has coins to collect within them, if anything. With that said, I have to vote 'Meh' for entertainment. Please don't let my musings deter you! I'm looking forward to see what more you have in store!

One thing I noticed is that in the notes you wrote that "I confess that I directly used Bruno Visnadi's warps TAS input here". Bruno Visnadi should also be put as a co-author if their inputs are in the tas, especially if you "directly used" them.

This is after the fact now, but I feel as if the generation of unintended Coin Heavens to spawn alternative dragon coins misses the point, and that it is not "what was needed". Why isn't the goal to collect the coins that do exist, which would be much more satisfying? I'd love to see a run that actually gets the ones laid out for the player, because generating more is like shifting goalposts in the opposite direction. There were 5, now there are 8! But we don't collect the 8, we collect 5/8. (And, you know, Chocolate Secret only has 1 dragon coin, so why not generate 4 more?) If M64 had a glitch to increment star counter and people inflated that in a 120-star run, would that count? Can you use a glitch to generate a 3up moon and collect that to skip an out-of-the-way one? No coin left behind! The submission notes that this is a popular goal in RTA. Does that category allow for this glitch (or is it too hard to execute outside of a TAS)?

I forgot to mention this in the notes that Now recent lunar dragon runs no longer accepts collecting dragon coins in wings heaven Unfortunately I came to know about it just when I finished making the run. I completely understand the fact that the repetitive dragon coin heaven makes it lose entertainment. However this run focuses on the fastest possible time so I chose this method.
