i have a small suggestion. Do the 4 gold cards first, then do the time card last. I think it would be more entertaining to watch, since i sorta got turned off by the time card first. Might just be a prefrence, but i think it would make the run better.

I was thinking of doing that. But I think I'll wait until the final run to actually do it, since I'm just finding my way right now.

Looks great so far! I know we're not supposed to compare pure and TA runs, but I find this more entertaining than marshmallow's 100%.

That's one of the main reasons I picked this game, actually. I figured it would look awesome to see this game done without playing it safe and making mistakes. And the 30 enemy goal that some people worried would slow the game down actually seems to be making it much more interesting. Now I wonder which side of the snow mountain level I should work on first. I already know I can skip the avalanche bit with a bomb bridge to the door... But it looks to be really annoying to get the 30 enemies in this one. I may have to repeat a small area a few times.

Hmm... it's slow, but you could in theory go back and forth between the place with the sledding guys and the place with the huge hill that leads to the end. Just make sure you don't have to go up the windy hills more than you have to!

So which enemies are you thinking I should beat repeatedly? Do you think the red or remote items will help? I was thinking I could beat an enemy or two each time I wait for the wind to dissipate.

Well, on that huge slope, the rabbit enemy keeps appearing, and usually you get at least one or two of those red or blue guys. On the sledding guys screen, there are two snowmen, plus the rabbit and the constantly reappearing sledding guys. I don't think that the red bomb item would help much, unless you're going after a ton of snowmen, but the remote item is almost necessary. When you're trying to go back and forth between screens, you have to kill individual enemies as quickly as possible, and that means detonating bombs as soon as possible. Also, in the beginning screen, there are a lot of sledding guys that go down the right slope regularly, and I think there's less wind there.

Hmm, yeah, I can see how the remote bombs could help that way. I just have to fall down a level with one of those overhanging snow chunk things to get it. I was thinking the red bombs might help kill the snowboarders, because I'm not having much luck with pumped bombs. My plan right now is to scale a different side of the mountain on each run. The time card run should also get a costume piece on the way up. The other run should take care of everything else.

http://www.filespace.org/BagOfMagicFood/BOMBERMAN64U_USA.zip okay here's all the stuff in that snow level I have a couple ideas already for improving it, though. I could save the switch for last so the snowman would give the gold card and I wouldn't have to go out of my way, which would get me another free enemy on the way. I could also try getting the other costume piece in the second run instead to cover some of the waiting time there.

About the second snow stage... you should probably start by going for the gold card in the room with the exit, then take the elevator into the left weird-perspective room and get the stuff there, then go back and into the right weird-perspective room for the stuff there, and finally go to the exit in the slopes room again. Hmm. I don't think you could get all the enemies in the timed-gold-card run, but you could try and see how it turns out.

Here's the first run of the icy floor. I didn't get anything special along the way. http://www.filespace.org/BagOfMagicFood/BOMBERMAN64U_USA.zip I figure I will have to make three loops around the level for the extra goodies, since I haven't managed to find a way to get from the costume piece, the gold card, or the switch in the slope room to another of the three without reentering from the top. I could use death to repeat the room faster, but I want to make this test run a no-death run to use as a control when I make the final decisions on when best to die later. I'll just be able to get more enemies along the way this way, I guess.

Oh yeah. I forgot about that. It might be possible, in theory, to go to the one on the first side and then go off to one with a lower elevation, but I don't know if that would work in practice.

Yeah, it is pretty annoying. If you remember to take turns a little wider than usual, you should be more or less good. Also, since you're going down the slope 3 times, you can go for the 30 enemies as well. As with other levels, you'll have to do it alone for speed, but since getting everything involves going down the slope 3 times (I couldn't do it in less anyway) you will be able to get the enemies and most of the stuff without much deviation from your route. Kill about 10 enemies per trip, then. Good luck...

One problem with bombing the enemies is that at full speed on the ice, Bomberman doesn't slow down enough to kick a bomb, so his foot always misses. I guess that means I have to set lots of stationary bombs and know where all the enemies will move in advance.

Looks great, actually. (You seemed to have a lot more trouble in the first ice stage...) I hate that boss, though, and I'm not at all good at it. The only advice I can give you is to stay under it... or something. Yeah. Good luck!

Heh, okay, thanks... I might try the next boss one of these days... It would be nice if I could get some better emulation, though, for some of the graphics issues.

You should definately bring this up on the emulation forums... maybe someone can suggest a better graphics plugin?

Maybe... My computer doesn't seem to be compatible with some of them, though. But I could look into it. And I'm not sure I'll finish this movie before summer, when I might get an internship and move or something. I may just work on simpler games for NES or GB.

Any updates coming? I'm eager to see more of your work. And just to think that this is only a testrun.. Man, I can't wait to see the actual run. In my oppinion this looks already publishworthy (that is of course if it gets finished with the same kind of quality). I hope you don't abbandon this because of those graphicla problems or that it may be somewhat harder than those nes games. Think of it this way: the more harder the game is, the more entertaining it will be (at least in most cases, imo). Of course player's skills / trouble he is willing to go through to make a movie also counts. (the word 'skills' may not be the best choise of word but couldn't think any better :/ )
Which run should I encode next? :)
