The default IP address appears to be not working for me. A quick DNS check grabbed the random IP address 140.211.166.3 Try that in place of irc.freenode.net

Is there an error message? Or do you just not know how to use IRC? There's a URL in the header of this forum which you can click. It should connect you to the channel.

If the domain is down, then the header doesn't work because it uses the domain. Substitute irc.freenode.net with 140.211.166.3, like DeHackEd said, that should make it work.

Change from irc.freenode.net to 140.211.166.3. I can't check where right now, since I currently don't have any IRC client at all installed.

That's not nice. 140.211.166.3 points to zelazny.freenode.net, which is but one of the Freenode network servers, one which has particularly higher chance of being down or shut down temporarily than the main DNS name, irc.freenode.net. irc.freenode.net is a DNS alias that points to any of the Freenode servers, randomly.
