I was wondering if any of you guys lurking around this forum (active and passive) would like to see a run of this great adventure game? If so I might concider it in the future. Sega CD is a forgotten thing that needs to be promoted once again if you ask me. There are a couple of good titles for it. I also have slight thoughts about Monkey Island. But for now it's dune that comes to mind..

I don't know about Dune, but Monkey Island is not really TASable game.

I beleive dune is more tasable than monkey island. Can still be very linear though.

I think that any point-and-click adventure game is very TASable. In Monkey Island you'd had skip just too many parts where the game is funny. Is Dune an adventure game too?

Yes. Dune is an adventure game. It's avalible for PC as well. You should check it out!

Actually this has been a TAS object for me since I played it the first time on PC. But back then I didn't know it was possible to TAS it since I didn't know about the Sega CD clone of the game until a couple of days back or so. To bad that Sega CD isn't very well developed in the emus yet. Allthough it's playable probably.

Hmm, judging by your avatar, I'd say you like this game quite a bit. :-) I remember it back from the PC and Sega CD days.. quite a while ago. I think it would be interesting to see just how fast it could be done.

Dune, the original, is a pretty impressive game for when it was made. The music is really nice (I have the mp3s from the cd they based it off) and the graphics are really impressive (its westwood after all). The game itself had some huge bugs that a new player would usually end up trapped in, and you actually had to learn how to avoid these traps to finally complete the game. Still, its a most impressive and rather fun game. (And its one of the earliest realtime-rpg-exploration-adventure games) ;)

What kind of adventure is this? Exactly the same as Monkey Island or is more action filled?

Dune... While I like the game itself, I wonder if it is any good for a TAS. I see no opportunities nor use for tool assistance. It would look like a normal human game, just faster. We have to ask ourselves Is faster better when it comes to adventure games? Is frame perfect dialogue manipulation exciting? Of course I might be wrong, it was ages since I last played it. Hmm... Now that I think of it... Luck manipulation. Maybe there is a use for tools after all.

If I remember right the battles are quite random from time to time. This game doesn't need to be frame perfect like such. But it would be nice to see a flawless run of the game without loosing a fight etc. Also alot of time could be saved when it comes to training and espionage etc. Perhaps find Charni, or was it Hera that was kidnapped, at first possible sitch. Also time could be saved when it comes to spice harvesting and sending spice to the emperor so that you time it very perfect in order to win more time until next shipment. One question is how many shipments that needs to be sent in order to complete the game. The spice is good if you wanna buy weapons etc at smugglers, and also to survive the game so that the emperor doesn't kill you off.

I loved the movie! Everybody thinks Starwars is that great. But not me. I think Dune is better. Atleast story etc. :D

Problem is, I don't think save-states have been implemented for Sega CD games that work properly, something to do with the soundtracks or something. I don't quite understand it myself. There's one game I really would like to see as a TAS on it, but unfortunately with the save-state problem. It works fine slowed down though. Correct me if I'm wrong (I'd like to be wrong :P)

In fact, Dune is better when it comes to story, screenplay etc., but SW has definitely got more of that entertaining value in it. Dunno about the game, it didn't appeal to me that much (maybe because I don't like adventure games at all). The second part is a whole different story, of course.
