The sixth (or seventh depending on how you count) Rockman series has been announced. The first game should release this year for Nintendo DS. Character designs appear to be by Nakayama Toru (of Rockman Zero fame) and indeed the two screens make it look a lot more like Rockman Zero 5 rather than a new series altogether. Details here.

Oh no, is Rockman going to be like Final Fantasy where all the games have completely different stories and are only vaguely related? Don't tell me you're buying into the hype!

Nono, don't worry. The hype ain't so grand. We can handle it. And the product artworks we posted on our site looks pretty good to be honest, even if some form of Power Rangers mishap is involved.

...mishap? One of the major selling points of this new series for me is its tie to the Henshin Hero genre... ^_^ I got into toku because Rockman was based on toku.. and now it's becoming true to its roots by having a Henshin Hero series (if EXE doesn't count).

I wonder how this game uses the touch screen feature.

It's probably something incredibly lame, like a static screen that lets you select which weapon to use at any time.

Wait, sixth/seventh series? By my count there's only four... original, X, Legends, Battle Network. (and no, I didn't forget the MMZ games, they are a part of the X series) And from what I've heard of this, it doesn't sound like something I'm expecting... they should have dropped the Rockman part and just made it into a completely new game. Though, that's what I said about Battle Network too, and they turned out as great RPGs... (but I don't even have a DS anyway.)

Zero series is sequel to the X series but isn't the X series. That ups ZX to 6th. You're forgetting the Rockman World series. That ups ZX to 7th. But most consider World series to be just part of the original series. That takes ZX back down to 6th.

World series is the GB games, right? If so, yeah, I see them as part of the original series. As for how to count Zero series, I won't argue about that. But I see it as a part of X series anyway.

Since both X and Zero are characters in the Zero series, why isn't it considered part of/a spinoff of the X series?

Indeed it is and even if it's the sequel of the X series, I'd rather consider the MMZ series as a new series of Megaman Games...

I'm pretty sure Capcom had that in mind too before they pulled the prank. :3
