As Randil suggested, I create a new topic to speak/debate (or whatever you want) on music and to know a little the tastes of each one of us... So I begin... I mostly listen to metal and especially black metal (I have a wide library of Black Metal mp3s on my PC). My favorite bands would be the following for those who know : - Immortal - Ondskapt - Funeral Mist - Alghazanth - Watain - (Old) Thyrane However... I do also listen to classical music as I play the piano and to electro-jazz... Of course Mega Man music is one of my favorite style as well ;) There some other bands that I really appreciate such as Queen, The Dresden Dolls, Smashing Pumpkins... I can't stand techno and I really do not like Rap, Reggae, House, Trance...etc That's a good overall view of my tastes... I hope that a music topic hasn't been done before... And now you should be able to post photos in the suitable topic...

I posted this mainly because of graveworm's post on the "User photo gallery" topic which was :

You guys should go listen to some real music. Really, Immortal's good, but there's actually better.
And also because people might want to post some of their own music... If they feel like it I hoped that they could post it here (I noticed that JXQ is making Rap and that many people apprecaited the fact that he posted some songs...) I took the opportunity to talk about my own genre and to post some bands I like... And if anyone wanted to debate about "real music" they could have done it here... Maybe I didn't choose a good topic name and it should be renamed... Or If anyone thinks that I was wrong to post this topic then just lock it...

Last three years I'm mostly into freestyle/experimental genres and styles of electronic music, namely: • [Experimental] industrial — my favourite artists here are Throbbing Gristle, Nurse With Wound, Coil, Current 93, Einstürzende Neubauten, early Skinny Puppy and so on; • IDM — my favs are Autechre/Gescom, Boards of Canada, Gridlock, Aphex Twin and µ-Ziq; Toytronic is a promising lable to try too; • Progressive Rock — mainly Pink Floyd and Tangerine Dream of the 80's; I want to investigate this genre further this year, aiming at such artists as Popol Vuh, King Crimson and Can; • Progressive (or maybe Classic?) electronics — I mean artists like Vangelis, Jean Michel Jarre, Pete Namlook, Klaus Schulze and early Tangerine Dream; I just don't know how else to call them; • EBM/Electro-industrial/Futurepop — sometimes I feel an urge to listen to the more beat-oriented stuff; the names are Front Line Assembly, In Strict Confidence, Assemblage 23 and so on; • Industrial Metal — mainly Nine Inch Nails and KMFDM; • Tracked music, Game and Demoscene soundtracks — hehe, this is the essential part! :D OC Remixes and Zophar's collection of console game music are nice places to go; As for the rest, I'm pretty omnivorous in terms of my music taste, and sometimes listen to different sub-genres of Noise, Alternative, Classic Rock, [Dark/Psy/Classic] Ambient, Glitch, Big Beat, Synth-pop/Darksynth, Dub, Modern Classic, Musique Concrete, even some kinds of Jazz (I don't like it very much though) and much much more. What I really don't like is the intention to sacrifice one's individuality and personal style in favour of being more mainstream, to make more money. Like Peter Christopherson said, when a musician loses the belief in what he does, he becomes a product.

I like good music, I don't have any specific genre preferences. Well, I probably do, but I haven't really thought about it like that. Also, some of the best music out there can't even be defined as belonging so a specific genre. So I'll just list a few bands/songwriters I like, this is by no means an exhaustive list, just things I've listened to recently and that I remember. Björk Beatles Cake Led Zeppelin Machinae Supremacy Muse Nightwish Pink Floyd Radiohead Rammstein Sigur Rós Supertramp Travis Lately I've been listening mostly to Cake and Sigur Rós.

I listen almost exclusively to video game music (which is usually either techno, rock, or a combination of both). Some of my overall favorite game soundtracks are: Quake II (Sonic Mayhem did the music for this game) Final Fantasy VII Donkey Kong Country 2 Battletoads in Battlemaniacs Frogger: He's Back (PC) (little-known title, but the soundtrack is simply amazing) Everything else I like are individual songs from various games.

I listen to a lot of video game music as well, but I also listen to a lot of anime music. If I were to try and identify some of my favorite music for the time being, it'd be between the following four songs (which I like to listen to, to the point of frequently repeating the song after listening to it.) Mermaid - Chobits (anime) Mezame - Mai-HiME (anime) Magus - .Hack//Mutation (video game) Forze Del Mal - Kingdom Hearts (video game) (Although typing this up made me realize that there's a song from Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha A's that I really want...)

Wow, my list is going to be NOTHING like what is already here. In addition to all sorts of video game music, I listen to a lot of rap. Some of my favorite artists are Bone Thugs -n- Harmony, Joe Budden, Outkast, and Nas. I don't like rap that seems to be popular nowadays, as the lyrics are pretty mindless (which is why most people here don't like it, I'm guessing). I like really complicated rhyming schemes in the lyrics, and I especially enjoy very fast rapping. I've started listening to this station that plays classical music recently as well. I hear some of the classical music and think "Wow, this would sound even better with a tight kick/snare in it!" ;) And as stated above, I do rap myself, so I might as well post that link here since it's in a more relevant topic :) http://www.skuzz.com/jxq/music.html

Techno Hard rock/metal (only if I can understand what they are saying. An example would be Disturbed). Classical, especially stuff that isn't overplayed like Beethovens 5th

OCRemix is free, and I since my hard drive crashed last (about a week ago) I haven't ripped any of my CDs again. So for now, lots and lots of video game music. :)

My last.fm profile My favourite genres would be Nu Metal, Metalcore and Emo, but I also like some older stuff like Metallica or Dream Theater. Lately I've listened a lot to Mindless Self Indulgence, which is a crazy mix of techno breakbeats with metal riffs, really cool :)

Heh. A few minutes ago, I was just listening to "I Am The One" for the first time, and I thought to myself "I wonder if this guy is a Bone Thugs fan". As for me, I like pretty much every genre of music out there. I listen to plenty of metal, rap, classical, country, electronica, and anything in between. But lately, I've mostly been listening to so-called "intelligent dance music" (which seems to be mostly be undanceable, and I'm also not sure what's intelligent about it). I've probably listened to more Boards of Canada than any other artist over the last 5 years or so.

I'm into death, grind and black metal. But also eat alot of other styles and genres. Three days ago I bought tickets for a Dark funeral concert in Göteborg / Sweden. I'm to lazy to list all bands I listen to. But I found very good bands among the ones listed above. Well.. I could list some of em' I suppose: Dark funeral Immortal Cannibal corpse Six feet under Sorhin Behemoth Illnath (the first demo was awesome!) Cradle of filth (Well... Not really, but I do have the biggest collection of bootlegs (mp3) that I know of). And they actually have a couple of good songs. The lyrics are especially good as well. Very creative. Some crematory can slip in as well. Haha.. The videos are just so funny. A gigant baby is growling. "Tears of time" :D Envilent (EVERYBODY SHOULD CHECK THESE OUT!). Legionen av Daminor (My black metal band. Very melodic). Chinsaw (My band as well. Grind/death) (Also notice that it's spelled correct and I'm not accociating to Chainsaw!). Dissection - I was surprised when so many people said how bad their new single was. (Mahakali). Read the lyrics ffs! It's so evil that evil it self got scarred away! :D Extreamly well written and well composed song btw! I saw their rebirth tour last year. Very good! Oh well.. Those were some of the bands. Sorry to all bands that I missed to write about! ;) But it would be too much to write about it all. I could just dir my 120GB metal harddrive for you all to see. ;)

I think stuff like this is interesting to discuss. I think the problem most people (myself included) have with rap is not the music (let's come back to that) as much as the people who like the music. The whole subculture around rap is just completely unappealing to me, and always has been. I'm not just talking about the music videos on MTV or 8 Mile, but rather the people I went to junior high and high school with. This same argument is doubly true for black metal and stuff like that (I don't know how to correctly label it, sorry metal fans). Now about the music, I guess it's all subjective. For most rap songs, I don't even get to the lyrics because I can't stand to listen to the actual music. I suppose not much can be said about that, rappers like a good beat, non-rappers (at least me) don't. It's my opinion that, in general, if all drums were dropped in all songs, not that much would be lost. It's probably easy to understand how I don't enjoy most of the genres listed in this topic, since a lot of it is just drums and sometimes a guy screaming (metal). Please don't take this as a personal attack anyone, especially not you JXQ. As a side note, As I Write is my favourite rap song I've ever heard, seriously. Oh and about the actual topic. I like to listen to stuff like The Beatles and Simon & Garfunkel. I especially enjoy piano music in general, being a piano player myself, so I also listen to Elton John alot. Go figure :)

No one has mentioned Hecate Enthroned yet. Is it just not so well-known or don't people like it? All of you metal guys should check it out, they have an awesome sound. In addition to Hecate Enthroned, I like Cradle of Filth (Dusk, Vempire and Cruelty albums), Dimmu Borgir (Spiritual Black Dimensions and Enthrone Darkness Triumphant), Graveworm, At the Gates, Dark Tranquillity (Damage Done is awesome), Stormlord, Emperor, Immortal and a crapload of less important bands. Nowadays I listen mostly to game music and classical though, especially FF piano collections and Chopin and Vivaldi. .NSFs are also always cool to listen to, as are some VGMixes (don't care for OCRemix too much).

Wow, so many metal fans here. AWESOME! haha :D As some would guess from my name alone, my favorite band by far is Dillinger Escape Plan. It's not even so much their music, but what's behind their music. The amount of music technicalities, off-beat rhythms, changing key signatures, sudden tempo increases and decreases, and just plain ol' innovation all are part of Dillinger's music. I'm into a decent variety of "loud rock" music in general, such as punk, metal, and hardcore (some poppy versions of each too). Some examples: Propagandhi, Anti-Flag, Green Day, Deftones, Lamb of God, Glassjaw, Hopesfall, Horse The Band, Mindless Self Indulgence, Meshuggah, Hatebreed, Unearth, Sikth, Norma Jean, Nothingface, Pantera, Story of The Year. I'm also into IDM music. The intelligent part of the music is the complicated nature of the songs. Compare this to your typical dance beat and you'll see the difference. My fav IDM groups: Aphex Twin and Squarepusher. Some other musically relevant notes: I'm part of my campus' radio station and play a mostly "loud rock" show. I play guitar regularly and used to be in a couple bands.

Hecate Enthroned WAS a good band in my opinion... When John Richards palyed and singed with them... Now that dean has come they play some crappy Black/Death music that i do not like at all...
