Tripple post, yay!
Anyway, I'm redoing the whole run and have done the first two levels (Samson's and Kira's). Download
Sofar I've improved the movie 20 frames! :O

Woah, I did not know that this game is being worked on.
I have seen just the first level so far, and I am highly impressed.
I really like it. This is one of my favourite games... I will edit this post once I see the rest of your work.
EDIT
Ok. So let me see... One thing I really like about this run is how you kill the enemies in the dragon level. Same for the golem. The fight with the dragon was quite genius too. I loved the fast switching . Lightning fast. And nice jumping too!
Sadly, I got a desync in the level after the dragon fight. It is my fault, I knowingly used a different rom, hoping it will sync and it did not. I will get a better rom and try later.
So far, I love it.
Mmm, looks great. You included everything I complained about in the previous version. Here are some more things:
- In the dragon fight, he sometimes loses height, does that mean that he isn't hurt constantly?
- With the green wizard, did you try blasting him with the dragon as while you're walking there? I suppose two switches + slower walking speed might well be slower, but I thought I'd check.
- 21300 somewhere, can you grab the ceiling with the mouse instead of switching to dragon?
- The ice level, you often choose not to Switch to Samson for the vertical climbing, how come?
- Weird wait before exiting at 23912. Is it always like that?
- Doesn't switching to and from the dragon lose some time? Why not just stay as stone man? (Edit for clarification: during the ice boss fight)
This run is INCREDIBLE. I love it.
One thing, did you notice you're skipping 5 stages by finishing the first boss with the mouse? It took me a while to realize that.
Wow, I like this game. You get to play as a human, a dragon, a rock-golem thing and a mouse; how cool is that? I've never played this game before so I'm afraid I can't be much help but I can say you are doing a superb job, keep it up!

I've been wondering about this thing too. The moment he looses height there acctually is a bell (or whatever Samson fires) inside his hitbox. Therefor I can answer Yes he is hurt constantly and I have no idea why he loses height.
Crap... haven't checked that one out. Have to do that.
Edit: Checked that out. You do not save time using Kira on the way.
This is done due to the same reason as to why I keep jumping all the time in the ice level: Running acceleration on icy ground is very slow. The switch saves time 'cuse then I don't need to accelerate the mouses running (plus, he won't have to stand in one spot and run for a short while without moving forward.)
You're right there. Some places needs to be re-done I think. (How did I miss that?)
No, it was just I who accted careless.
The boss moves forvard till it reaches the right end of your hitbox. By flying as the dragon above him I can shorten his horisontal movement by quite much. I've tested this a couple of times and I came to the sollution that this was my best option.
This isn't just becaouse I use the mouse. It has to do with how fast and on what frame the boss is killed. (I stumbeled over this "warp" by accident).

No, therse is another warp like this that can be executed on the Waterdragon boss (I think). This one lets you pass the Icelevel but on the other hand you have to complete a number of levels before you get to that boss.
I don't know if there is any other warps like this though....

Just a question. Did you try using a different version of the game?
I think that Seirei Densetsu Lickle (J) might be slightly faster to start...
Just a hunch, and I have no skill to check it out for sure.
Of course I can be wrong or the difference might be insignificant to redo the whole thing or it might be slower in the long run...
I don't think faster loading times are worth switching versions for. It's the gameplay that's important - a movie doesn't look more or less impressive because the game starts 2 seconds faster.
It is always less waiting time...
A speedy start makes a video feel faster.
And the versions seem quite similar, so it might be easy to hex it up instead of redoing all of it.
I think this needs more testing, the long run is what matters.
Or maybe I am totally wrong, which I might be. If that is the case I apologize.
Alright I've started work on this. I'm really excited to JXQ the crap out of this game. I'm going to use the warp at the end of the first real level. I've only completed the first practice level so far, but I'm five frames ahead of Mazzic's v2 unfinished run. I'm also using the (U) version, so the title screen is slower, but I'm not concerned with that.
Here's what I'm wondering, from those who are more familiar with the game than I: Are there any types of powerups with effects that may be helpful that are not obvious? I'm seeing that there are max-life increasers that remain permanent, and that life starts out at full on each level. I plan on giving these to the mouse as much as possible, so that I can take more hits without having to switch characters. Anything else I should be sure to do (or even just try) as far as item collection?

Yeah, try to get those maximum increasers as soon as you can, but remember that each character can only use a few. So the mousie won't get more health than the rock man, see. The health refills and extra lives are pretty obvious, but watch out for beakers, too. They are manual full refills, and you can store one for each character; just remember that only the character who got a beaker can use it.
put yourself in my rocketpack if that poochie is one outrageous dude
Crap. There goes another game I would have liked to do some time in the future. Well, now it will be done the right way at least. :) Good luck with it.
I'd be happy to comment on your run while it's under construction, if you are interested in that.
Bag, thanks for the info. Although I don't think the game will require so much strategy to need the potions, as the levels are short, and hearts are fairly common / easy to manipulate, and it seems that the game fills energy faster with hearts than potions, unless you have a lot of energy to refill. But who knows when they might be needed. Better to have and not need than need and not have. Just like health insurance, and glocks.
Truncated, yes I'm interested (and I like "under construction"!!). Here is my R.U.C. at the end of the practice levels, 40 frames ahead of Mazzic's v2.

I was wondering what happened to this run. It was looking real good and then it just vanished like socks in a dryer. I'm glad you picked it up JXQ, it's gonna rock now. I can't wait to see more!
Also applies to condoms.

I have one question: is there no horizontal acceleration in the air? I'm guessing there isn't, since you hug the walls when falling.
Guybrush>Looking good, although I don't like when all those enemies are killed but that's just me.
Some of it is for lag reduction. Especially in the next level, all the flowers shooting causes a lot of lag, so that needs to be taken care of.
Progress:
I'm investigating the warps. The determining factor with warping from Level 1 to 6 is defeating the boss as the mouse, although I'm not sure if you need to land the last hit, or all the hits, or just turn into the mouse after the last hit. You can also skip the Ice Palace by defeating the boss as the Golem (Mazzic did this in his v1 run). I'm going to see if any other warps of this fashion exist, and if necessary, plan a route.
There is no horizontal acceleration, similar to Mega Man. There is vertical acceleration, but only up to a point. (Strangely, the momentum variable will keep increasing on a long fall, but the fall will not get faster past a certain point). Another thing to note is that walking off any platform will cause a 1-frame delay. Instead, hop off of it.
I've also found the usual memory locations (position, velocity, lag flag).
10 days you say?
