Gargoyle's Quest - Ghosts'n Goblins is a mix from Jump and Run and Adventure game. You walk on a map and speak with people or walk through Stages like in Jump and Runs.
I show some glitches which I found it while work on this run. I walk through a wall and climb at a door which disappear later.
I take only damage, when it save some time. So I get hit from enemies to fly or walk faster through them, when I can't shot them before. I land on spikes or lava, to get new Flight Power or to jump again, which help me to fly longer or reach higher places.
Manipulate Luck. Yes, many times. On the World Map I fight no enemie. Normaly you will warp into some random fights. But this never happen here.
This save me too one Fight against one Ghoul which blocks the one bridge. I speak with him with weak Wings and then get the stronger Wings. Now he is still gone and I can pass the bridge.
I defeat Bosses as fast as I can.
At the end after defeat the Last Boss, I speak with all people. You must only speak with the King, but its the end, so I like to show all what they say after you finish the game.
I worked hard on this run, and take a break some month. But I now there are some little errors in this one. Most are in the earlier Stages, but I have done already many other things as someone found these errors. So I have not found the time to do all again. Sorry. But at all these little errors take maybe only some little seconds which you will not notice in this run. So enjoy this run and see how fast you can defeat some Bosses.

Impressive speed, publish material. But I haven't place a vote because I have no experience with this game =|

I really like this game, and the play is done really well. The highlight for me was the Desert of Destitution, which I always found annoying. Showing how precise flight can be is really cool. Two things jump out at me: -The tower where you get the Gremlin Stick and Buster, near the beginning, there is some wall jumping where you fly between two walls when you could've scaled a single wall. It probably wastes about a second. Or am I missing some reason why you did that? -Talking to the 3 extra characters at the ending wasn't really worth the time loss in terms of input time. It's true that watching the ending is nice, but they didn't exactly add a lot of entertainment value. The game is a bit slow, but it's still an entertaining movie. Nice work, MattyXB.

1. No you miss nothing. Someone else on this board see this errors too already and post it in the Thread about this game (when you mean the same place). As I say in my post it contain some little errors, but someone else in this Board and I found them to late as I already done many other parts from this game. It take me much work to finish this run and I was a bit frustrated near the middle. Was longer and harder then I think before and near the complete movie is done with Frame Advance. So I have not the motivation to do all again for some little errors, which save maybe only some little Frames or only some seconds. I am happy, that I finally finish this run now myself and that it looks so good at all. Was much harder then all my longer runs which I did before. Because every Frame is important here. Jump for 1 or 2 Frames are different, stop flying 1 Frame earlier or later, everything in the Action Stages are important. So its much harder then some other games which I have try to run. Sorry about the end and talking with all characters. Maybe when more think its not worth, I can delete this part. But I like it to show the complete ending in this game, because you can't do much more after this. And I think it cost too not much time at all, because they all say not much and I did this as fast as possible like all other talking sequences. And thanks for the votes so far.

Voted yes. I liked your routes in the latter half of the game. It would have never crossed my mind to use invulnerability time anywhere near as much as you did. My only question is this: Why did you take damage around frame 70000? It seems like you would have been fine without it.

Thanks for the votes so far. To the question, it was impossible to fall through the 4 outcoming Spikes without get hit. I try it and the right Spike will hit me at all. I can only avoid it, when I should wait over the Spike and fly a bit. But I have think it will cost to much time when I fly so I just fall through all these Spikes with one hit. And I know this run is not perfect. I know some new tricks, which save maybe too some seconds. One which noone mention yet it will maybe faster when I take no damage in the first Stage and take the damage later by the Fish Boss. So it will be possible to defeat the Boss by his first appear and I must not wait longer till he appear later again. And maybe some routes are not optimal. Someone in the SDA Board mean I take a wrong longer route. Not sure where it was, but he mean there exist a shorter route in one Level. I was sure I test all, but maybe I overlooked one good route. Now I found the Left/Right glitch, which will save in some round some time, can be seen in the topic about this game. Its not usefull in all Stages, but will help in these ones, which not go up or down to far. The only problem, it can be, that this glitch looks to boring. You just glitch fast through the walls to the finish in most Stages. Too how I now defeat the first Boss faster with get damage by him can seen in this WIP. But not sure if I will complete this one.

Heya, first post from a long time lurker, so I hope I don't make any mistakes. I actually tried this game as my first TAS ever a while ago and made it to the second levels, so I started watching this run very curiously. You certainly did a few things I did not imagine, but there are also some parts that can be done faster. * Around frame 2288 there is a bug that can be used, if you stop holding A while you're not yet at the limb you get kinda warped a few frames up. This saves a few frames in many points of the game, around frame 4040 for example. * Around frame 2650 you can jump around the spikes, like you do in the second level around frame 15425. Same goes for the next spikes you encounter. * The first boss can be done much quicker if you stop one frame before he hits you in front of him, then you can shoot every second frame, beating him after about two seconds. * Around frame 14473 you can jump to the left wall directly, saving a few frames. * Around frame 15810 you can maniuplate the moving column, although I haven't found out how yet. But you can make it move so you don't have to wait. That's pretty much the point where I stopped doing my movie and doing other things, I am, opposite to you, a lazy bastard. I don't want to say your movie is bad or anything, it looks quite good. I'm just pointing out the things I found out during my work on the game. I'd never found out a few things you did. I don't have a replay file of my run sadly, I lost it a while ago.

Many points? After watch again my movie and watch for these errors I think this is only possible by these trees, so only in the first Stage. I think one time I have done it without knowing how and why. One from the middle trees there I warped up. So now I know why.

Have not think of it, but you are right. I try always to jump as high as possible, so I would get hit by these Spikes. But your right, it will be better to climb up these walls at one side.

Thats a good idea. I have too think it will be better get hit by this Boss and take no Damage in the first Stage, but when it is possible to be infront of him without get hit it is maybe better. Then I can still get hit in the first Stage, which save too a bit time at this one point.

Yes, this I already know, because many others have see this error too. Must be the biggest error, which I have miss as I do this run.

I have try it a bit with walking to the right. So the column came a bit earlier back I think. But too not sure how I can do it exactly. I just try my best with these columns and how they moveing. Most they have a great moveing that I must not wait so long. So thanks for all the errors you found out. Maybe (not 100% sure) I will try this game later again and hope I can finish it without all these errors. At least I think all these errors will not save much time. Only the first Boss can save a bit more, but the other samll things save maybe a 1 minute together I think. But I would like too to see a more perfect run. So maybe I find the time again for this game. But I know this is a hard and bad game to play. I was too a bit frustrated after the half run. But now I have a complete movie which I can use at little help for another one.

Been trying to encode this video, but seems the framerate is highly variable in this game, making it impossible to have audio synced to video for long. Once we get VBA fixed, I'll give it another go.

I just have to say I've played this game, and watching the video is a bit of a shock. What speed did you play it at to fly like that? Flying in a straight line is humanly impossible in this game. Excellent job you did here :)

Thanks for encoding the movie and thanks for your comment. Most parts (near the complete Stages) are played with Frame Advance and it was hard to make. Still not perfect as you see through some post. And maybe I try it again someday. Most frames can saved by the first Boss I think. I am so happy now, that my first movie is puplished. So thanks again for all who have vote and Nach for encoding this.

You're welcome. I'm also considering encoding your Final Fantasy Adventure run as that was one of the best games for Gameboy at the time (highly popular), and you seemed to do a pretty good job. However my upload isn't great, it took me a good 5 hours to upload this video, I'm thinking FFA would take a day :(

it seems the top and lower parts of the screen have been clipped. the dialogues are cut ; the intro disclaimer as well. (vertical ratio problem ? lines are missing...) I don't think it comes from my comp, using ffdshow and mpc. about the movie : not very fast paced (yeah I'm a speed addict :) ) but very nicely played. it's great to have more and more gb classics published.

I just tested it in MPC, video seems to come out fine.

Sweet. :) I remember this game from the ol' days (a friend of mine back then had it for his GB), so it's definitely cool to see a TAS movie for it now. :)

Feeling similiar to schneelocke: I still know the game from the early GB days. Good run on a good game!

Lots of wonderful accuracy going on here. Looks like a tricky game, but it's great to see someone demolish. Good work.
