Update to my glitched run. Special Thanks to Zanapher for the Stair Glitch, and to Flagitious for the "HolyShitMyPantsAreOnFire" maneuver. It's now under 4 minutes, and not sloppily done, and with an accurate re-record count (and 100% less pseudo-narcissistic name input, one more rupee, and 100% less stupid error).
I'm not sure that the through the bushes near the castle is actually quicker, but I made sure that I always got 2 pixel a frame on the up parts and I made an even number of frames on the right parts. (Because when going right you step 1 pixels then 2 pixels, so I make sure I get it in sets, or I'm losing time). And because I'm sure of that I know at least I didn't *lose* any time with it, and it looks more difficult.
-SNES9x Settings: WIP1 timing, Allow left+right/up+down, Volume envelope height reading
-Abuses the Up+Down Glitches
-Takes no hits

I feel like waqking up this thread again by disagreeing with Phil's last comment. I do not like this codec at all. I guess this movie and Prince of Persia 2 by nitsuja has the same encoding. To this date, these are the only ones (which I've been downloading) whick I can't get to work with any player. Yes, I've tried latest version of VLC and Mplayer. Since this codec seems incompatible between platforms I would not want it to be used. I would also like to know if you just can't put out an alternate codec-movie to the movies with this codec. I still haven't been able to watch them, since I both miss the right ROMs and the right codecs. Thanks!

That glitch was insane - too cool! The wall glitches take the fun out of these games - but at the same time add mad cool points to the fact that you found a way to beat them so fast! Skuzz

Hey I'm new to this site, but I'm curious, are these time attack runs possible on the actual snes or just on an emulator?

It depends on what you mean by "possible".

This movie still has a star? It's neat for reaching the ending so quickly, but the full completion movie is far more entertaining. Perhaps that one is just too long to get a star, but I would not recommend this movie to first-time viewers...

They are theoretically possible on the actual console. You would need to be very superhuman to do as fast as (almost) any of these movies on a real console, but there's still a very small chance that a human could do it. For this particular movie, the left+right/up+down trick used would require you to either open up an SNES controller or push both buttons really really hard, but that's not the difficult part of what's going on here.

Well, if you pressed the keys in the exact same order as the movies do, then it's possible. The same thing would happen on a SNES console. However, pressing the buttons in that order is impossible for humans - there are timing, speed, and memory issues. In that aspect it's impossible to reproduce on a console.

If you are Popeye, and can have 30Hz muscle spasms at will, and have inhuman timing, and know the game forwards and backwards, and are very very very lucky, then every movie on this site is possible for you to do. Otherwise, you just need more skillz foo. :)

Ah ok I see. That's still crazy though. I didn't even know there was a glitch in Link to the Past like that, I'll have to try it... Though I probably won't be able to do it haha
