I was just reading about (and downloading) the new MegaMan video, and I couldn't believe how the run has evolved over the years. It occured to me that a video showing the run's evolution would be pretty neat. It could be done by just running all the videos back to back, or at least the ones where significant improvements were made, or even just a couple minutes each in the same area where a significant improvement was made. It might also make a good introductory video.

Ooh, yeah you could do something pretty cool with that. Have all four videos side-by-side, and pause the faster videos when they get ahead. So you could see how much each segment was improved. It'd be a lot of work to make this, though, I guess.

Different routes make it hard to make useful side-by-side comparisons. Morimoto's rockman: Guts-Cut-Elec-Ice-Fire-Bomb Bisqwit's v1 (unpublished): same as above Bisqwit's v2 (unpublished): same as above Morimoto's sup0010 (unpublished): I don't remember Bisqwit's v3 (unpublished): Guts-Elec-Cut-Ice-Fire-Bomb Bisqwit's v4: Guts-Elec-Cut-Ice-Fire-Bomb Morimoto's sup0040 (unpublished): I don't remember Bisqwit's v5 (unpublished): Guts-Elec-Cut-Ice-Fire-Bomb Morimoto's sup0060 (unpublished): same as above Bisqwit's v6: Elec-Ice-Fire-Bomb-Guts-Cut Bisqwit's v7 (unpublished): same as above Bisqwit&AngerFist's v8: same as above (I have received a couple of Morimoto's WIPs, but I don't remember how exactly they place in the timeline or what they contained.)

Still, you could do one of individual stages, or even just sections. The idea I had was that the reaction of the viewer would be: doable, that was fast, wtf?, HOLY SH@#! As it is now, someone who has never seen any of the revisions that runs go through is just confused when they watch something like the current MM run.

Such a movie would actually be doable. I know how to do it, in theory. - Track the scrolling-position variables from the game RAM of different emulators simultaneously (or sequentially, and record them to a file that is used when multiplexing the videos together). Here are the scrolling position variables for Rockman if someone is interested in carrying out this idea: $1B = screen number $1A = horizontal position $1E = vertical position (only updated in Gutsman's stomps and when scrolling up/down) Whenever one movie gets ahead the others, pause the ahead-going one until the others catch up. During pause, the screen might be dimmed or something to indicate clearly when it's going ahead.

After watching the Morimoto original, Bisqwit 4, Bisqwit 6, and Bisqwit/AngerFist, it looks like the stage with the most improvement between each version is Fireman. So thats the one I'd do if I had the software and time to do it.

I think that the original idea was more like showing them sequentially, ie. first show the level from the first published movie (or even better, if it's "too" glitched, just create a "regular" unglitched tas of that level), then show the same level from the next published movie and so on.

I like that idea.

I have no idea how possible or impossible this would be, but I'm dreaming of something like this: http://bisqwit.iki.fi/kala/snap/megaman4-cossack3-alientech.gif ...but instead of two seperate pictures, having all the Mega mans (Mega men?) from each run in the same level. It would be like an actual race. You would see just one big level, and several guys running through it. Maybe make them all have a different color. Hey, I can dream, can't I? :D

You mean something similar to the Gradius Averaged movie? It might be a bit tougher to make though since you don't have a fixed viewing area the whole time, so your video resolution would need to be something odd if you want them to be all visible while going the same speed. Of course, making the whole level visible is one option, but then it might be a bit tough to follow, especially with the enemies in different places.
I like my "thank you"s in monetary form.
