Media Player Classic: Fails, "Cannot render the file." Winamp 5: Sound only. Windows Media Player 9: Fails, "Not supported". Quicktime: Fails, "Unknown error". Windows Media Player 10: Fails, "Corrupt or not supported". In other words, bite me.

Whatever. All I know is I just installed K-Lite Standard on a minutes-old installation of Windows (separate partition), and every MP4 file posted in this thread played in both Media Player Classic and Windows Media Player. I would take a screenshot of it, but I'm sure you know what happens when you take a screenshot of a DirectShow window. I can't explain what's wrong with your computers, and I'm getting tired of talking about it, and I'm sure you're getting tired of hearing it.
Right, so we'll start encoding to MP4 when it's supported better. Thanks and enjoy your ocean.

So. By "anything that can play any MP4 can play all MP4s" he meant "some programs, like VLC which can play any file ever, can play these, so you should use VLC". And by "any program that can play .H264 AVI can play .H264 MP4" he meant "in a perfect worl'd everyone would use MP4 because AVI is a depreciated standard".

I dislike Mister Boats attitude. Its people like you that have caused me to not use linux. Anyway, back to the point of using MP4, for me it makes no difference as I use a player that takes 'everything'. But anything that people has to recommend using QuickTime to play is by default bad. Just like "Works best with Internet Explorer" Its a sign of lack of quality. AVI may be a hack, and b-frames may not work with it, but b-frames has never been used, so that isn't really an issue. And seek times? Thats kinda neglictable. I think the site should continue focusing on helping people do speedruns and such instead of having a debate over if a newer format is better than an old one. And just to nail in the final nail, this site plays retro games, and whats more retro than the outdated outhacked AVI format.

Okay this has gotten ridiculous. We'll discuss MP4 again when it's reasonable.
