This whole Final Fantasy thing is killing me. Someone correct me when i'm wrong. FF (J) = FF (US) FF2 (J) FF3 (J) FF4 (J) = FF2 (US) FF5 (J) FF6 (J) = FF3 (US) FF7 ect...

Yeah, that's pretty much correct, except FF4(j) is harder than the FF2 that was released in the US.

FF4j comes in both Hard Type and Easy Type, plus there's extra things in the various versions like PornoMag and some lewd jokes.

While that list is mostly correct, remember that there were quite a few changes between the Japanese and US versions of most of the games.

I thought FF3 in Japan was the first Final Fantasy to come to the US. Guess not?

Just wondering, is there a game genie code or something to disable random battles in ff2j?

Haha, actually FF3 is the ONLY one in the series now to not receive an official US release of some sort. Shame, since it's one of my favorites...the beginning of the job system, much fun to be had. -Josh
but then you take my 75 perchance chance of winning, if we was to go one-on-one, and then add 66 and two-thirds ch...percents...i got a 141 and two-thirds chance of winning at sacrifice

Cast a cure spell one step before a random battle in FF2, and odds are you'll reset the battle counter.

Yeah, I read about that trick, but that can get kinda tedious :(

Well, I found out how the encounters work. The game has a value for the number of steps you've taken in the game. I found out my next battle took place at 139 steps, and I found out how to change my current so I could say I've taken 1 step the whole game, which means I could go a short way before having to reset it, but I can't change the step where the battle takes place, so I can't change 139 to say, 16777215, which would pretty much fix my problem for the whole game. Is there anyone who knows how to solve this problem? Edit: btw I did this with a built-in VurtuaNES tool. I already a good ways into the game with Nestopia, so I was wondering if there is a way to do anything with that.

So freeze that value at some number under the "next random battle" number. I don't know if VirtuaNES can freeze values but I know most emulators with built-in cheat functions can. I'm assuming you're planning on getting in a battle and levelling everything you need to level (swords to max for Firionel, if not all characters, would be the only thing I'd do, really) before you disable random battles?

Yeah. It depends on the emulator. I've never used Nestopia so I don't know. If it doesn't have a cheat function, You have to use gameshark or hexedit the savestate(which amounts to the samething, almost). If it does have a cheat function, find the location of the counter, set it to some non-zero number, and it should stay like that forever. Its possible that instead of locking the byte at what you put in, it just sets it to that value and leaves it alone, in which case you have to make it very big. But since it probably only uses one byte, the most you could set it to is 256. Then again, I've never seen a cheat function that did this so you are probably ok. Sorry if I don't make sense.

Well, Nestopia has no built-in cheat function at all except the game genie, which is pretty limited.

You could try this http://db.gamefaqs.com/console/nes/file/final_fantasy_ii_hacking.txt However, that is supposed to be for nesticle, so I don't know if it will work for your emulator.

I'm pretty sure that only works for VirtuaNES savestates.

These offsets are specifically for the emulator Nesticle and the game these offsets for is Final Fantasy 2 for NES.
Nesticle, not virtuanes :p Anyway, it was a long shot. I didn't think that it would work on your emulator. The offsets should be relativly small numbers probably, so if you are bored you can mess around with it and probably figure it out.
