Well, it's really pointless in a timettack here. Btw, ManuLöwe has released a new version of his bugfix patch for Final Fantasy III. Link: http://www.manuloewe.de/kayen.htm P.S. For German people ;P

Hi. I've started a TAS for this game. Foe several reasons: - I've always wanted to make one and - To get something out for people to work with. I see here all talk, no action (no offence) so I've decided to break the ice. Now, the one I have made is very rough. I won't be submitting it in after it's complete. There is one rule I have applied though: No instant kills. All kills will be through damage. So I won't be using Vanish/Doom or Joker Doom, or even Fenix Down. Yeah, it uses up more time, but it's more entertaining at the same time. Although I have to admit, watching a run for this game is hardly entertaining. Oh well, I'm having a great time making it. Currently up to Banon's scenario. Nothing too difficult as yet.

did you compare your time to Jyzero's WIP? its somewhere in this thread anyways well goodluck, since its your first TAS + your not using instant kills, this definitly wont be the fastest possiblebut i will be watching this anyways since i love this game anyways you can host your wips on DeHacked's storages ( http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php ) which i believe anyone is free to use but you might want to ask him first

Awesome, sir! Seeing some 'tougher' LLG bosses beaten without Vanish/Doom (or Joker Doom) will certainly be a treat to the eyes. Do you plan on releasing any WIPs?

im glad you're working on it, but theres nothing entertaining about drawn out battles that don't have to be. abuse everything you can in the game. or maybe thats just me. still, happy to see someone working on this again. best of luck.

No instant kills, but you could still use desperation attacks ;)
I like my "thank you"s in monetary form.

Good luck with this, Erim. It'll be interesting to see a run of this that doesn't abuse Vanish-Doom or other glitches. I think there's probably room for both kinds on the site if any of us ever take on the other run. Which characters do you plan to pick up in WoR? Going in the Celes/Edgar/Setzer probably isn't the fastest way. Sabin and Gau both are fairly easy to get and power up. Mog is obvious, due to the Moogle Charm. I'm interested in hearing your plans.

Actually I don't see the point in not using vanish/doom trick. It will just be pain probably to watch longer battles. It would be fine if it's not used against bosses. But against enemies it would be OK to use it just to make it quick. Since regular enemy battles aren't that fun to watch anyways. Well.. I'm not going to say too much because maby you've got an ace up your sleeve which makes it more interesting. But I'm very doubtful. Please prove me wrong. Either way it's grate to hear that someone is taking this game up again. All credits to you Erim, good luck!

 2.5 Desperation Attacks
*************************

If you attack while the character's current HP < their max HP / 8, then there
is a 1 in 16 chance of doing a desperation attack instead of a normal attack.

Gau and Umaro do not have desperation attacks.

If the character has any of the following statuses, then they will never do
a desperation attack: Muddle, Image, Clear, Zombie

Characters will never use their desperation attack more than once each combat.

While the Battle Time Counter (See section 2.8 Battle Timing) is less than
768, characters won't use their desperation attacks. (i.e. Characters will
never use Desperation Attacks during the first 25.6 seconds of combat)

All Desperation attacks are unblockable (see step 3 in hit determination)

All Desperation attacks are magical attacks, that ignore defense (skip steps
5, 6b, 6c, 6d, 6e, 6f, and 7 in damage calculation.)

Sabre Soul and Star Prism are instant death attacks, rather than damage-dealing
attacks like the others. Shadow Fang will also inflict seizure status.

Here is every character's desperation attack:

Char Attack Power
Locke Mirager 139
Terra Riot Blade 142
Celes Spin Edge 143
Edgar Royal Shock 143
Sabin Tiger Break 140
Cyan Back Blade 140
Mog Moogle Rush 150
Strago Sabre Soul 0
Relm Star Prism 0
Shadow Shadow Fang 140
Setzer Red Card 147
Gogo X-Meteo 146
so it'd take at least 25 seconds within each battle for them to be able to pull one off.

hmm, that's a little bit of a downer, but hopefully that would mean we could see (at least) one (preference to a different one) more or less every boss battle.

Do the different tiers of the final battle count as separate battles? If not, you can at least abuse them there.

dunno, check the algorithm FAQ; i checked battle timing, and it mentioned nothing there. i honestly dont know. however, if they all count as one, then remember only one can be used per character per battle.

Yes, but you could let characters die on earlier tiers and have the replacements use their attacks too. Theoretically, everyone you collect could slap Kefka with their DA (well, not Gau if you get him.) I'll check in the forums and see if anyone knows, but we may just have to check manually. Anyone got a convenient save state?

Yes, actually theres one before everyone steps on a switch and one right at the start of the first tier battle (w/full health unfortunately). one thing, this was made w/ ROM V1.1, i dont know how much that will matter, but just as a note. oh, and these were just leftover after i cleaned out my SNES folder of savestates. BTW: a WHOLE lotta cheatin goin on in that save state. used the code that gives just gives stuff like Genji Equipment and Paladin Shields after battle.

One could always use a PAR-code or game genie to reduce the health in order to check right?

i was just thinking of summoning Terrato or something (whichever one takes away a percentage of HP). but these'll be more accurate

Are there any par-codes that allows you to allways use desperation attacks?

nearly all the Lores will execute different characters'
desperation attacks!
NO PAR from GameFAQs though; the second one is only good for Strago's LORE spells BTW; and yet the first one is random.

Well, one of the guys at GameFAQs confirmed for me that the DAs can only be used once each for all three tiers plus Kefka, unfortunately. So that gives us three to five DAs to play with, depending on who we get. They also suggested other strategies, but most of them so far weren't really applicable. You can check out the thread here.

There is one rule I have applied though: No instant kills. All kills will be through damage. So I won't be using Vanish/Doom or Joker Doom, or even Fenix Down. Yeah, it uses up more time, but it's more entertaining at the same time. Although I have to admit, watching a run for this game is hardly entertaining.
im glad you're working on it, but theres nothing entertaining about drawn out battles that don't have to be. abuse everything you can in the game. or maybe thats just me. still, happy to see someone working on this again. best of luck.
Actually, that was the reason I wasn't looking forward to this game being done. Using Joker Doom on everything is just plain boring, especially for a long run like this.

But if Vanish/Doom wasn't used it would just be replaced with deathblows being used over and over again.

Bosses where Echo Screen/Joker Doom or Vanish/Doom are available: Cranes Flame Eater Ultros (Thamasa) Ultros/Chupon Air Force Atma Weapon Nerapa Tentacles Dullahan All bosses in final dungeon (I/S/R, Guardian, Doom, Goddess, Poltergeist, three tiers/Kefka) Bosses where said tricks are NOT available: Whelk M-Tek Armor Vargas Ultros (Lete) Doom Train Tunnel Armor Kefka (Narshe) Dadaluma Ultros (Opera House) Ifrit/Shiva Number 024 Number 128 That's leaving out some mini-bosses and battles on both sides, and ignoring the fact that using V/D may not be practical for some fights (Nerapa and Tentacles, I'm looking at you...) Around half of the bosses in the game will be killed by conventional means. It's hardly as if every boss in the game would have that same strategy of instant death.

Those are all the fun bosses in my opinion. At least seeing different deathblows would be more entertaining than the same instant kill trick used for however long the rest of the game lasts. To me, the WIP that was just posted in the other FF3/6 topic (up through Number 024) was the entire game that's worth looking at if the rest is just hours of Joker Doom.
