I supose that's most conventional route then; though didn't I suggest one awhile back where you up+A in the heart of norfair twice, once after returning from ridley? But alas both are obsoleeted with this new use for the door glitch I found: You can go from the top portion of the left-most column to the lower portion.

I'm sorry to say that I'm putting no continuing this run for a while, it's destroying my nerves. But I'm still thinking about the route and such so all kind of help is still welcome.

It's been a long time, but if I remember correctly, at least one of the ice beams respawns when you get the wave beam. Maybe I'm just mixing it up with other memories. But that's what I remember.

Sorry to bump this, but I didn't want to start a new topic for an existing one. So, it occurred to me, after watching all the Contra runs, that there might be a way to do a pacifist run of Metroid, which I think would be a lot more interesting, albeit laggy, than the Contra pacifist run (which kills way more enemies than a Metroid pacifist run right now would take - even one of the tanks can be skipped by dying twice.) But here's my thought. You'd need bombs, the ice beam, and all the missiles. Here's the problem, though. You'd need 21 missile tanks, which gives you 105 missiles. You'd need 5 for the door into Tourian, 20 for the doors in Tourian, 40 for the Zeebetites, 1 for the glass jar, and 32 for Mother Brain, coming to 98. Sounds great, but, while you can get the ice beam from the back door in Norfair, you'd need another 5 for the bombs. That's 103. I thought about not needing the bombs, but there are a couple of places they are required (to acquire more tanks - the top right area of Brinstar is one example). Now, you can get to 20 of the missile tanks using bombs, the door glitch, or otherwise, but the first red door on the right you come to in Kraid's Lair has a tank behind it which doesn't seem accessable by any means. Using missiles here to open the door would be pointless, because you'd just end up with the same amount. Does anyone know any tricks or glitches that can get to that missile tank? I'm sure this site needs another Metroid run like it needs a hole in the head, but after much planning, I'm just curious if it can be done. It would be sweet, seeing nothing die but Mother Brain (and the Zeebs, if they count as creatures). Otherwise, at least one creature (a metroid, actually) would need to be killed before the game could be finished.

What would you use the ice beam for in a non-enemy damaging manner? Aside from Metroids and certain colors of Rippers, enemies are still harmed by the ice beam.

Yeah, and this game is kinda silly in that you have to freeze and unfreeze an enemy repeatedly to kill it with that beam...

The ice beam would be to get over the bridge to Tourain.

Intresting idea. So collecting every single missles carrier gives you just two extra missiles. I think you may be able to bomb boost into tourian without the icebeam. I think I know two possible ways to get through there without using missiles: The first one would seriously take something like 5 minutes. You would go to the bottom of the midle column and door glitch up from the bottom right blue door all the way to the red door at the top. Then you need any enemy to boost you back into the door while your inside it. This action may also be possible with a bomb but I havn't been able to do it. You'd need to be somewhat to the left side of the wall while stuck in it and under certain point relavtive to the red door height. Then place a bomb, move right a little while inside the wall, then climb up to the red door before the bomb goes off. If pulled off I believe it would work. The second way if possible would be to door glitch from the lower right column into the upper right column. It's unlikely to be done but you may also be able to door glitch from somewhere else in Kraid's lair and eventually end up in the area behind the red door. *edit* door glitch from bottom right column doesn't work.

Well I confirmed that it is possible to boost through doors using your own bomb. I just needed to slow the game down; it's very hard at 50% very easy at 25%. This also requires you to get in the wall underneath the door. I think the most applicable place for this technique would be for going straight to kraid asap using getting no missiles, certainly the desired route for any% and low%, no up+A, and maybe with up+A as well.

Just informing that I'm still doing a 100% run, it's progressing slowly though.

Do you want to see an extremely sloppy and crappy test run? Don't think so. I'll post my whole test run when it's finished.

Oh, a testrun, nevermind then.

Well are you sure your doing the best route? I know of a door glitch that hasn't been seen before which would make a better route for nofair.

Guybrush, the memory addresses I found that look like the best candidates for lag indicators are 02B5 and 02B9.

Is this run a suited run, or is it another one of the suitless runs? (Just curious since it seems as if all the 100% runs out there are with the suitless Samus instead of the suited one.)

Okay, here's the unoptimized testrun. First of all, it's not a serious attempt to perfect the game, rather it's made to test the new route. And secondly, it doesn't finish the game because Tourian is so annoying. Feel free to ask questions about the route, and all kind of help is very welcome.

Here's what I can see so far: You should probably reset after the 2 missles in Norfair right before High Jump. I'm not completely certain it's faster, but I think it is, because of having to go through the bomb tunnels. Don't reset after the Norfair Energy Tank. The door glich to High Jump room should be quite a bit faster. Resetting after the first Missle in Ridley will save time backtracking and not having to bomb the floor (slow). Kraid route seems good. Don't reset a second time on your way out of Kraid (to Brinstar). It is faster just to go up the normal way (tested). Good luck on the run.
If for honesty, you want apologies, I don't sympathize.
