Not that I'm making it myself, mind you. Sorry about that. Anyway, I've just come to the realization that a TAS of Mario Party 1 could be viable, and actually somewhat entertaining too! There are two ways this could be handled. 1) Mini Game Island. This would pretty straight forward. You only need to control one character, and reach the goal as soon as possible. There are some places where the path diverges and you can take a shortcut with a different route, and you have the opportunity to trounce your opponents at every opportunity. In the end though, I think this would serve best as a warmup to what could be a far more interesting run... 2) 100 Star Run. In the first Mario Party, there is an overall goal that you can aim for, which is to collect 100 stars in the game, thus unlocking the last board for a final showdown against Bowser. Beating this last stage also grants access to a credits roll, giving a clear end point to the movie. Normally, playing through one board wouldn't give you very many stars due to player competition and a lack of coins to purchase them with, but suddenly I remembered the end match rewards. There are three bonus stars handed out at the end of a board based on who won the most minigames, who won the most coins in minigames, and who landed on the most green ? mark spaces. More importantly for this TAS though, is that if players tie in these categories, stars awarded to BOTH players with the highest received. If you take control of all four players, you could keep track of the results in these games, and cause a tie between all players in all 3 categories, rewarding 12 9 bonus stars at the end of each game. There are 7 boards in this game (+1 for the final), which means that if you play each board once and manage your gameplay each time, you could receive 84 63 stars from the bonuses alone, which leaves only 16 37 stars to acquire within the game itself, only 2 or 3 meaning you'll average 5 or 6 stars per match, quite simple to accomplish even which should be possible on the lowest turn setting of 20. Board movement would be easily manipulated, so the biggest obstacle would be the fact that you would likely be repeating minigames often, so you would want to keep entertainment in mind instead of pure speed. If you were up to it, you could also buy some of the special dice like the +coin and warp blocks, to make star collection within the game easier. Eesh, that's a long paragraph, but I hope you players can see my vision and make this a reality. edit: fixed some numbers since apparently you can't have 4 way ties; new text in italics

That sounds like fun. I think it would also be good to set perfect records everywhere, even on out-of-game stuff like Mecha Fly Guy and Bumper Ball Mazes. Maybe they could go at the end of the island run. Now I'm considering how the full run would go. You'd want 20-turn games the whole time, right? That's 140 mini-games, so you could do every one two or three times. That's not too bad. 1-player games would probably waste too much time to be worth anything unless the players seriously can't get coins anywhere else, but those would be covered by the island run. On the other hand, a lot of the mini-games in this game just transfer coins between players rather than generate new coins, so you might end up restricting the mini-game set to help pay for stars. No use for Boo if it's cooperative... And of course, don't forget to turn off the mini-game explanation screen!

Yeah, the Mecha Fly Guy would be a neat thing to throw in the middle, but I think you need to purchase a bunch of mini games first beforehand, so that wouldn't be of much use. At best it would just be something to mess with outside of the movie, to see what the game actually detects as a full rotation.

Yeah, having bought everything a long time back, I admit I can't remember which items have to be bought first. I was just thinking about how often the players will actually end up going to Bowser, since it might be fun just to see him pull his tricks once in a while. There are some Toad spaces that you can't get to without passing Bowser, right? And you'd need some very tricky timing in Mario's board to keep everyone from ever meeting Bowser...

This sounds like it could be a lot of fun (and very hard) to pull off. The only problem I can see is the extra stars that deal with coins - this sounds like it would be very hard to manipulate, unless you can find a way to hack the emu and display the current counts. (For the ? stars, you could just have nobody land on any spaces. Easy.) Good luck to whoever attempts it!

I know that one of the stars goes to whomever has ever had the highest coin count seen in the game. So if somebody got 218 coins once, and nobody ever exceeded that, and that player traded coins to someone else in Chance Time, and then all players stayed at or below 218 for the rest of the game, then both players would get an extra star for having 218 coins before. Now for the mini-game coin star, I'm not sure about that, besides that I always win that because everybody I play against is worse at the mini-games than I am. I don't know if it keeps track of coin losses or just coin gains, for instance, so you might want to experiment with that for yourself.

In case it isn't painfully obvious, the lottery coin box will be your best friend.

Hmm, is it true that you have to win the 100 stars all over again on Eternal Star before you can play any of the other boards again? It would be funny if you set it up to do that on only one playthrough, but you might need more than 20 turns to pull it off.

From what I remember about MP1... 1) I thought if everyone tied, or if no one actually landed on the mystery spaces, that no stars would be given for that. If my thinking is true, that could significantly change how this game is TASed. 2) About Eternal Star: Just beat it once and then you can play every board.

Wolfman's right At least for the Chance star, if everyone ties, no one gets it. But three people can tie for it and all get it, so it's not so bad. I'm not sure if this applies for the coin stars too.

What, for the D-pad? Because I don't think it's even possible to send two directions at once for the stick position.

I've made an edit to the first post because of the no 4-way ties thing. Hopefully my formatting isn't too confusing. Unfortunately it seems to double the star work within the game, but with mushroom squares I'm sure there's at least one map where you can load up on stars in a single turn. Wario's Battle Canyon stage comes to mind, for some reason.

If you could pull this off, it would definitely be an interesting watch, to say the least. You have my support. Good luck, it sounds like a tough project.

Does this game feature the handicap option where you can give each character 9 stars to start? =P

Mini-Game Island would be more interesting. But 2-players combination would be interesting too =/

No, but the Mini-Game Stadium lets you start off players with extra coins.

I say go for the Mini Game Island run first and see how it goes. If it gets a lot of positive reviews, then go for the 100-star run.

I don't think it will take too long. If I had a GamePad I would try myself..

I think a big part of the Mini-Game Island run will be luck manipulation to see how much you can tilt things in your favor. Since most games have a set time anyway, your goal should be to squeeze as many coins out of the games as you can on the first try.

An idea for a random Mini Game Island optimisation: If you collect 25 coins on Coin Shower Flower and jump off, is that a clear or a miss? I'd love to see just how fast the two Slot Car Derbies can go...

Yeah, for every timed minigame, you'll have to make sure to equal (or beat) the known hiscore. (I think they're all done with computer teammates, so you'll have a chance.)

Yeah, I would say get perfect time records on the timed games, but also get perfect coin scores on the other games rather than going for time. But if everyone wants to be so darn time-oriented, then fine.
