What? You don't need save data to play on 00 Agent difficulty. It should be available on the first level and any other level if all levels before it were completed on 00 Agent.
put yourself in my rocketpack if that poochie is one outrageous dude
Really? It's been a while for me on this game. Now that you metion it, I think that would be a possibility.
I get the feeling that I'm being followed by something edible and magical in a container of some kind....
I am just a silhouette, a silhouette of a memory of a solitary night .. nothing more.
I just did a little clocking on "the-elite.net" site, and did a little math, and came up with the times for each difficulty level as if they were single-segment (Disregarding extra stuff such as going through each mission briefing, and also rounding to the nearest second. All times include the Aztec and Egyptian missions as well.)
Agent: 20:18
Secret Agent: 26:11
00 Agent: 30:31
I'm actually very interested in seeing how much more time can be saved by doing these on a TAS. If we can save at least two seconds per level on 00 Agent mode, and I think it's potentially possible (at least on average), I think that a TAS would end up being under half an hour in one single segment.
Thoughts?
If I had any kind of TAS ability, the ability to get an N64 emu to work the way I want it to (ROMs are no problem, though), and a lot of time, I'd totally go for it.
I'd kinda like to offer what I can for tips. I need reason to play like hell through the game a bunch of times anyway and become really geeky at it. Being undefeated in multiplayer for three years doesn't help in solo runs. =P
If I actually knew how to play around with the N64 emu that does it (I'm only familiar with the NES emu that's here for TAS-ing), I'd totally help you out.
Perhaps you could give better guidance than I could to someone who wants to do a TAS, Wouter. You're more qualified than I am to talk of speed run matters. =P
Oh, yeah. There is the FAQ here too. Forgot about that. Maybe that could help us both out some? Maybe if I actually get into some free time to fiddle around with the emu and figure out just where to map the buttons on my laptop, I'll give this one a shot. I wouldn't count on me being reliable, though, but I'll do it if no one else does. How's that sound?
Do not try to bend the spoon, that's impossible. Instead only try to realize the truth.
What Truth?
There is nospoon. Then you will see it is not the spoon that changes, it is only yourself
First start out by reading the Using emulator tools page. Then just hang out in the IRC chatroom and whenever you need help with anything just ask. There are always lots of people in there so someone should be able to answer your questions.
I can give some sound advice, to get started:
-Use control 1.2. It's faster (unless you're using CC), plus, I imagine 1.1 would be a bitch using keyboard and mouse. Though if you're doing this as single segment, you'll lose a little over five seconds at the Dam, to change the controls (unless they allow S-RAM with the control already changed)
-Use as much lookdown as possible,,, since this is a TAS, in theory you should only have to look up to kill guards/get items/shoot consoles and things. On the downside, watching the floor go by all the time would probably make for a boring vid,,,, personally, I like to see things going on, but I will acknowledge that this is a bit faster.
-Boosts. Get as many of them as possible, but not backboosts, obviously. If you survive the level with extra health remaining, you probably could've gotten more boosts somewhere,,,
-For fairly detailed write ups of most of the fastest strats, go to www.the-elite.net and find Goldeneye Strats Central.
And, if there's anything I can do to help with this, let me know! I have way too much free time, and I'd love to see a full run of "God" rampaging through this game.
Good luck with the TAS :)
How's that, Wouter? Is it laggy and choppy, or is there something else that's weird about it? I actually haven't had a chance to try it out lately. I'm still trying to figure what buttons should go where on the keyboard/mouse. o_o
nospoon's suggestion: Get either an n64 -> usb/serial/parallel/game port converter or get a gamepad with at least one analog stick, but don't get a logitech one, mine totally sucks! I think using an analog stick would be MUCH easier than trying to use a keyboard/mouse.
PS. I say don't get a logitech one because the D-pad is worthless and its pretty much impossible to press 1 direction, for example usually when I try to push >, it's actually pushing ^> or v>

I don't think you can just go over to Best Buy or Circuit City or something and just get one, can you? Whatever way I have to do it, I'll have to wait until I can come into some cash before I go seriously trying to do this.
After seeing that video, I'd prefer to see just a pure run through without all the modes and stuff. Shooting at enemie's heads 9072948065023645982364589273465897234659834725 times doesn't seem too interesting and there was too much waiting during the video. DLTK isn't necessary. Just load and go I say...
