I've had this problem with AVI files lately where if I hover over them for too long, or try to pull up information about them by right-clicking and going to "properties", things will promptly lock up until I go into my processes and stop the Dr. Watson thing from going on. There any way I can fix this?

doctor watson is a windows (2000 ?) tool that prints the usual crash/debugging info after a program crashes. the information given has generally no use. make sure you have no codec conflict, no media player conflict, and that they have been both recently updated. the cause might be elsewhere though (even an improper windows installation, driver/hardware conflict, whatever). good luck >_>;;;

I'm glad to see this thread because I have the exact same problem. It started after I installed a shitton of codecs, and a jumbo codec package. I imagine the problem lies with codec confliction, but I wouldn't know which ones are conflicting. So, I just open Media Player Classic, and browse to the file I want to open that way. It works, even though it is more work...

I have had similair problems in the past with the same error message popping up multiple times for just clicking on the files. I think its mostly in the h.264 codec required movie files. After dowloading most of the codecs off the internet I have had the problem go away.
