Here are some memory address you may wanna watch Tilus: 7E3D7F Attack Gauge, 1st position 7E3D8A Attack Gauge, 2nd position 7E3D95 Attack Gauge, 3rd position 7E3DA0 Attack Gauge, 4th position It starts at XX & drops to 0, then you can perform a command... You may don't need it, but it's good to know :)

I decided to start making a WIP movie of the game. I got some troubles & overwrote the beginning (the first 17 min :P ). It was just like Tilus file, so you don't miss much ;). The file starts after the Wind Shrine & ends after leaving the Ancient Library (beats Byblos). I will eventually get the rest when I have more time, vacations just finished here :( BTW, I used RPGe's patch ver 1.10 & soft patched the Japanese game (just rename the ips file as the game). Also, I used Snes9xw Improvement9 to make the movie... (So I hope anyone can watch it w/o desyncs) Edit: Stupid Firewall at school, it blocks any site that has the word "Hack" :( (points at file link). I wanted to see the file from a different computer... Edit 2: It worked w/o any trouble :) (though it almost immediately desync if you don't put the patch, not like it matters...)

This is the next section of the WIP run This time I wanted to do it a little more precise than in the last part (so I recorded fairly more, though wasn't that much I think, around +200 re-records from the other one :P). The movie starts from the Ancient Library & ends after beating the 1st world, in less than 1 hr, 45 min of in-game clock ;)

If you think is remarcable, you should watch it bmgenji ;) I'm trying to make the movie as if were the definitive, so I'm taking some time to manipulate random fights & shave some secs :) I'm sure now that I can cut off at least 35 min from the walktru outline... (I already cutted 15 ;) ), so I estimate fighting Exdeath at the Void will be around 3 hrs 25 min, very close to the PS run :D

Disclaimer: I have not yet watched samurai goroh's WIP, but I have watched as far as Boco and Tilus got. Maybe I'm missing something, genji, but I actually would have expected a little more than 2 minutes faster at this point than the ultima garden time. Yes, I know that is the PS version, but this is a TAS. Not to criticize samurai goroh at all of course. Probably the time attack is just very optimized.

^ This has been mentioned, here's the quotes:

I was reading the SDA link, and it mentions that someone beat the game in like 3 hrs 15 min, how on earth is that possible??? All I can think is that I lost some time on the cinemas (I was skipping frames & using turbo). Also, since it was played on the Play Station, running is a lot faster, though I remember that you get to fight more often (which might not be that bad after all...)

i was wondering myself about how he got such a low time. id think if anything PSX would have slower loading times (i know Chronicles suffered from this problem w/ FF4). i know running is like 8x w/ thief while its only 4x or so in SFC. and i think just pressing the run button adds speed as well (i could be wrong, but im too lazy to play the game and check my references). maybe... MAYBE thats it... but it just doesnt sound right. i thought 3:15 was at his last save point. i thought the strategies i went through and tested would have been better, but maybe they're not.

Actually they used Playstation 2 and Fast Loading (or something like that) feature.
As for my run, though I'm using frame advance, I won't do it frame perfect BUT will try to do it on fights, changing jobs & using items. This is for 2 reasons, I don't have much spare time to redo the same thing over & over to make it perfect (that's why it's a WIP) & reason #2 is that the movie wouldn't be submited because it use the patch (& I don't know a bit of Japanese, though I could overcome, but again don't have much time right now...)

I wrote the ultima garden thread at SDA, so I knew all about those things, including the PS2 fast loading option. I also read that you were just doing this for fun, with the translated version and all that. I guess what I am saying, is that I am not making a comment on your speed vs ultima garden speed. (That is fine because you are doing us a great service by providing proof of concept.) I am making the comment that 2 minutes does not seem to me like something you would say "wow" about like genji did. He only has 10 posts so I figured maybe he doesn't understand TAS's enough. For example, marsh at SDA was confounded that hero's CT TAS was 30 mins faster, when actually, only being 30 mins means that his run was very good. Also, Strangeness in the Mischief Makers thread here was impressed that the first WIP someone did for the first level was better than the console time at all.

Yeah, yeah. I have only ten messages, but I've been lurking here a year, may be two, and I watched many of TAS runs. That "Wow" was just to encourage samurai goroh =). Japanese text scrolls faster and I have heard that you can dash at Playstation version of FFV. And that was me who found ultimagarden.net =)

Yes of course, and I love you for it. Oh and in that case, "wow" to samurai goroh. =p

However it compares to existing speed runs, taking the time to do a test tas for us that is estimated at about 3:30 knowing it won't be published is amazing. Keep it up ;)

Well, as it's been mentioned before, running on the PS version is way faster, therefore you'll save more time at the begining, where in the SNES version you'll have to wait until you get the 1st tier of Jobs. (Though you also fight more constantly, but I think you can also avoid random fights on the world map...) The in-game clock doesn't display the seconds, so isn't that precise to compare both runs. Which BTW, where does it mentions that? Also, even with the terrible loadings on the PS, I don't think those secs are added to the in-game clock, but I could be wrong... :P Also, in the 1st world there's no much need for luck manipulation, maybe only for Blue Spells & triggering certain random fights, but that's not that hard since you most likely be able to save the game. I'll will try to finish the movie this week ;), hope I don't have much Homework... Edit: Does anyone know what do I need to do in Moogle's Forest in order to make that damn moggle you saved out of his house, in order to procede? I can provide a save state if need it... save state Edit 2: Never mind, I had to talk to the moogle. Though I don't know if I have to pick all the treasures, but they aren't bad :)

hehe, I won't see everything in 1 sitting (plus I would forward all the dialogues). Besides what I want to see the most are the strats used in each boss... (like which jobs he used...) Edit: On topic, here¡s the address of the Lv of the enemies: 7E2202 1st Enemy 7E222A 2nd Enemy 7E2282 3rd Enemy 7E22AA 4th Enemy 7E2302 5th Enemy 7E232A 6th Enemy

I just finished the World 2 WIP section, I had some troubles stealing the Dark Matters & learning Lv 2 Old, but you won't see that on the video, just a nice run :P. I finished the World 2 in around 2 hrs 45 min of the in-game clock (I forgot to check the time before Exdeath, but it's almost 30 min ahead of my previous run, therefore I'll be close to 3 hrs 30 min when I get to Exdeath at the Void :D) BTW, I want to hear some comments of the run (& the previous if possible). Sometimes it looks like I only talk to myself :P

well world 1 looked really good to me so no bad comments there ( except maybe the start after the wind shrine when you get goblin punch, you wait a long time in front of the shrine, then run away from that other fight.. probably to manipulate the goblin fight afterwards? only thing that really bothered me ) i won't watch world2 tonight cause its 1:15am and im going to sleep soon (plus i just watched the speedrun posted today and i had my dose of FF for a while =p ) but i expect it will be good also

I'm glad you asked :) It seems that the enemies groups are more or less predifined. The battle I learned the Goblin Punch appeared on the 2nd enemy encounter, so I had to use the forest to speed up the # of steps to trigger the fight, so I could battle as soon as I got to Tule ;) I also saw that it seems that the enemies give you a predefined # which triggers the next fight. I had to fight the 2nd Ice Soldier because otherwise if I just continued advancing I would encounter more enemies than if hadn't the 2nd battle... (w/o mentioning that stealing a 2nd Mithril Sword boost the damage) I had to do something similar at the Lonka ruins, I made a detour just to not encounter Hydra (or was it Hydora?). I could just had fought an extra battle in another room, but prefered to just gathered some treasures because I feel like to :P (not sure if I used any later though :P)

I havn't seen the WIP's, seeing as I don't have the rom, so I can't comment on them, but I have been watching this thread since /* did a test run, so I just want to say keep up the good work Samurai. And if I see the runs, I'll comment.

Finally, I just beat the game :D. The in-game time is a little less than 3 hrs 23 minutes when I fight Exdeath (7 min less than I expected :D). Faris died in the battle & I didn't mind reviving her, nor manipulating luck to make Exdeath hit someone else that has an Elf Cape (Assuming it would evade the attack...) Anyway, here's the last part of the WIP I made, enjoy it :) BTW, I have a question, which ending is faster? I mean, who should live or die on the battle to get the fastest ending, or that doesn't matter? Also, should I update the Walthru to match this movies? I guess so, but maybe there's something faster somewhere that I overlooked... I think you could avoid Lenna's skipping glitch & don't even enter to Mirage Town, but I was low in Fenix Downs. Maybe I should had bought some on World 2 & also bought some Holy Water for mixing porpuses instead of the last Lv up...

i dont know which is faster... i thought input could end as soon as L5 Death was executed. it shouldnt matter. i woulda tried killing off everyone but one character (maybe Cara left alive only? i dunno). or all alive. it doesnt really matter, speed wont be everything. entertainment will greatly factor in (especially for those not familiar). im lecturing and out of place... sorry. it looked extremely nice goroh. there were a few HUH!? moments but i cant recall them from memory. i applaud you for bringing this to life.
