Definitely a game I would like to see done. You could go for just speed, or try for all the treasures in the bonus stages. There could also be a more competitive aspect by using the DOFEEL passcode for just the bonus stage time attack mode. Let me know if anyone decides to pick this up.

I worked on a Ristar Timeattack the last 5-6 hours... From the 2nd Stage I went straight without checking the movie. Then, after I finished the 6th boss I wanted to see my movie again... and guess what happens in the 3rd stage? -_- Yup, right... the thing that every 'timeattacker' get nightmare's of took all my motivation away... Desync at the 3rd boss... I don't know if I have the nerves to go on with that thing, 4 levels for nothing, and that only because I'm such an idiot...

I did it! http://mitglied.lycos.de/deinbenutzername/Ristar_by_Zer0.zip Number of Rerecords: 7207 Lenght: 29:34 Emulator used: Gens Movie Version V9 Played mostly at 33 and 50% speed I dunno what the hell was up with me when I played and didn't re-do level 2, seems like I didn't realise first how horrible I really played there T_T Anyway, I hope you have the same fun watching it as me playing it (ok ok, it wasn't that fun at all, especially because I had to re-do a lot...)

Hi :) http://www.myfilehut.com/userfiles/nfq/Ristar%20-%20Bonus%20Stages%20by%20NFQ.zip This is not a run of the whole game but only the 12 bonus stages which are activated with the password DOFEEL. Here's an overview of the times, the ones in parentheses are the SEGA RECORDS. I managed to beat 5 of them. 1-1_____ 3.56_____ (3.51) 1-2_____ 7.21_____ (6.86) 2-1_____ 5.21_____ (3.52) 2-2_____ 4.93_____ (4.68) 3-1_____ 11.27___ (11.41) 3-2_____ 7.67_____ (7.36) 4-1_____ 4.96_____ (7.24) 4-2_____ 17.89___ (17.82) 5-1_____ 7.66_____ (7.41) 5-2_____ 14.95___ (19.33) 6-1_____ 10.13___ (11.02) 6-2_____ 15.51___ (17.91) If you know any better routes, glitches or something, I'd like to know. Isn't anyone interrested in trying this? This is my first tool-assisted run, so I'm sure someone else can do it better!

This wasn't bad, especially not for a first. I'm not sure if there would be any interest in this game, but be aware that being slower than a non-tool assisted record almost means disqualification from the start. So while it's not publishable, I'd say it looks promising. I had never played this game before, so I can't help you with the actual playing I'm afraid.

Did you not hold the C button to speed up the level overview parts for aesthetic reasons, or did you just not know? Anyway, I'll be glad to see this if you can manage to beat all the developer times. Admittedly, most of them are more or less impossible with normal skills, and you need to do them thousands of times over to memorize the best parts. That aside, I don't really know any good strategies for boosting your speed. This DOES enforce my desire to see a speedrun of the regular game though.

Well, about a week and a half ago, while waiting for my Chaotix TAS to get judged, I started on Ristar. I'm using the Japanese version, because it's harder, the menus are faster, and the intro can be skipped at an earlier frame I'm now doe and submitted. There aren't that many tricks that can be used, but I'll detail them in this post later. Here[/u]'s the submission. Edit: 1. fixed link (the url tag had been showing raw BBcode) 2. fixed fixed link (the url tag now does not show raw BBcode) 3. fixed fixed fixed link (the url tag now has the right URL!) 4. submitted

No, it doesn't have the skiing part But on the other hand, in the U and E versions the skiing part doesn't have control, so it's basically just an additional 600 frames for no reason.

I think you need to fix the fixed fixed link.

Thanks for pointing that out. The prior two fixes were just actually getting it to display as a link. I never bothered clicking to make sure it went the right place. (for the record, I forgot to convert !'s ascii code into hex in the %33, which is now a %21)

It was pretty long time ago I made this topic but I improved this now, so if anyone wants to see http://www.savefile.com/files.php?fid=2328335 the times: 1-1 > 3.46 1-2 > 6.10 2-1 > 3.16 2-2 > 3.94 3-1 > 9.24 3-2 > 6.85 4-1 > 4.75 4-2 > 17.79 5-1 > 7.09 5-2 > 12.98 6-1 > 9.97 6-2 > 15.46

I get major desynch. Country is Japan, and controllers are configured correctly. What's even more weird is that your old movie also desynchs now, so it almost has to be some error on my side, but I can't figure out what. Ideas? ---- EDIT: I'm an idiot. You are of course using the (UE) rom in U mode, not the Japanese rom.

I get the same desync, but I can also tell you two things that you don't appear to be aware of: 1) Hard mode makes a difference on the bonus stages. 2) Your strategy in bonus 1 isn't the most efficient. If you jump the very first frame you can move, and grab up-right after that, you'll get the pole much sooner. You don't need to get hyper-mode to reach the chest, so grab direction is irrelevant.. Edit: Did you typo your 2-1 time?
2-1 > 3.16
Because the best I've been able to get on that stage, via any method, is 4.14.

Yeah, I use UE version, so that's the reason for the desync. Upthorn, in Hard mode the difference is only the time limit, so it doesn't matter, because my goal was to beat the Sega records. About the strategy on 1-1, I thought grabbing up-right was faster too before, but if I grab up-right I can't grab the pole instantly. That loses about about 10 frames. And no, my 2-1 time is not a typo, watch the movie :)

Yeah, when I said "up-right" I misremembered that you only need to grab right. With the desync, it looked like you were reaching left to grab the pole. Hence the correction.

Thanks for the advice, Xkeeper. I had never heard of a minor edit option before since I'm not such an experienced computer user.

While playing around managed to jump the old man and get a direct grab of his monkey. This could probably be helpful. movie (gens10): http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/114400418/Ristar%20%28J%29%20%5B%21%5D.gmv, edit: ah, saw it was suggested on the submission thread :D

Err, it looks like it actually takes longer to beat the boss that way... I guess I could play around with seeing if it can be made faster, though.
