Media differ, and it is the job of the screenwriter and the director (among others) to make an entertaining movie.
Wrong. The goal should obviously not be entertainment, but speed! Sorry for the BagOfMagicFood post, couldn't resist.

For a more in your face example, how many video games do you know made good movies?
Most movies made of videogames suck precisely because they are way too different, they don't have the same mood and too many things have been changed. Just check the Doom movie: They changed basically everything. About the only common thing between the games (well, Doom3) and the movie is that they happen in Mars (but even how the marines get there is completely different in the movie) and that there are guns. Everything else is different.

But the Street Fighter movie was good because it had all the characters! I recognized them!!

Since this thread has clearly deviated from the specified topic... That movie had one of my favorite lines ever. Something like "So you think you're pretty smart, do you? Well let's see how smart you are when you're not breathing!" My brother and I quoted that at eachother for years. Unfortunately an even worse line from Aeon Flux has replaced it.

Zangief's actor was really spot on. I was very very impressed with how well they casted his character. Everyone else... eh. Dhalsim was played by the guy who played Ghandi in another movie, and T. Hawk was a shrimpy white guy with a fake accent.

Oh god, Ben Kingsley is in Street Fighter?! Now I definitely won't see it, as I refuse to make a mockery out of one of the better actors in Hollywood.

Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone, budget $125 millions, worldwide gross $974 millions. Seems that millions of people disagree with you.

Nothing new under the sun then. I didn't enjoy Titanic either.

Oh my gosh, did they really refilm some scenes so they say "sorceror's" rather than "philosopher's"?????!?1174596 Now, the next Harry Potter story could do with a rhyming title, like "Harry Potter and the Glass of Water". That would be exciting. It could be all about this magical glass of water that ruins Harry's life, yet again.

K, I already watched it a few years ago. I'm pretty confident I'll like it this time too (watching tonight). F

Two days ago I watched the two first Harry Potter movies, and yesterday I watched number three and four. I thought the first one was excellent, mainly because I think the feeling of mystery, uncertainty and exploring new worlds etc (for Harry, magic wizards and bla bla) came across very well. It's exciting to watch. Gradually in the movies, though, this feeling/mood disappears, and the movies get worse and worse. The problem as I see it is they try to cram in too much into the plot of these 2½ hour movies. They need to either be longer or simplified, with neither alternative sounding very appealing. In movies 3 and 4 (I guess 3 especially), everything felt very rushed. On the other hand, Hermione (Emma Watson) gets older and older, which is a good thing. I feel slightly less guilty about having a huge huge crush on a 15-year-old than an 11-year-old, I guess.

Just wait for The Order of the Phoenix. Not only is the book longer than all the others that come before it (probably necessitating a longer movie), but it is incredibly boring, the kids get involved in even more contrived circumstances, and it's very difficult to get into the story.

Too bad. Having almost finished the second book, I think this series has lots of potential. It's a shame to think it's pretty much downhill from here.

P.S. Who needs Emma Watson when you can have Clémence Poésy, who is both attractive and was legal 6 years ago?

15 is the legal age in Sweden. I'm not too sure this helps my case though. And I agree she (Poésy) doesn't look too shabby either.

EMMA WATSON!!!! VIVA!
"Genuine self-esteem, however, consists not of causeless feelings, but of certain knowledge about yourself. It rests on the conviction that you — by your choices, effort and actions — have made yourself into the kind of person able to deal with reality. It is the conviction — based on the evidence of your own volitional functioning — that you are fundamentally able to succeed in life and, therefore, are deserving of that success." - Onkar Ghate
