As you may see from Saturn's test run preview, a proper TAS would easily chop at least half an hour off Atma's time (however it still is a great reference for an unassisted run; something like 1:45 should already be humanly possible), so yeah, we must be sure that SMR gets approved by the time Saturn finishes his RBO run. ;) Also, for the sake of comparison: by the end of the room before the first Brinstar elevator, Saturn was roughly 43 seconds faster, and he showed me it could be improved further to ~46 or even more. Already a lot for the 8th minute of the game, heh.

but its still awesome if you know the first route test from atma... its 2 days older and about 2 hours slower... a big improvement for 2 days i think

Heh, it's not really an improvement in a general sense… Don't forget that Atma was a beta tester for this game, and he knew it far better than you may think even before the public release. It was obvious that he did the first run not because he couldn't do it 30+ minutes better, but to show the "general" route (also, he didn't want to spoil numerous sequence breaks too soon). After all, it's just what it was meant to be — a rough test route.

you "found" a run by atma? well, it looks nice, in any case. i'm still waiting for saturn's run.
Yeah, I found it on a Japanese site. I double checked and there was, strangely enough, no mention of it yet here.

Psst: http://www.metroid2002.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=141195#141195. ;) Although I could have sworn I saw it somewhere along these threads.

The pro's of actually paying attention on irc :P Its exactly as is said, rough test. I could probably do it considerably better still, but I dont think I'd be able to do it to the same calibre as saturn, since he has the existing (very handy) super metroid experience.

But unassisted runs also use rerecords! The difference lies in the amount of mistakes between the save rooms. Other than that, the only thing that would prevent someone from doing a "perfect" unassisted run is a need to do each segment hundreds, if not thousands of times. But such a possibility still exists. ;)

I have downloaded this run (1:41) twice now, and each time it doesnt run completely. After he gets the WallJump Boots and tries to get back to the Elevator back to Criteria, it messes up and he just keeps jumping at a wall and then eventually dies. Do i have the wrong Redesign version?

Are you using v1.1 and a headered ROM?

OK, so I decided to continue Redesign some more because I got bored of both the RBO and the any% run at the moment. I started a 2nd version of the run as the first (although pretty optimized already) was more a test TAS. This one is a serious attempt. I'm up till the Walljump Boots now and saved 505 ingame frames or 441 realtime frames compared to v1 at this point. Highlight is surely Spore Spawn! Recorded on Redesign v2.0 Final version (Headered if this makes a difference): http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/2200/SMR_v2.0_-_TAS_Saturn.smv Enjoy!

He started recording it on an earlier version, hence the mismatch. Nice Spore Spawn battle, Saturn. Now that you have the walljump boots, some real feats begin. :)

Yeah, Awesome run Saturn! I just got speedboost and I'm insanley low on health, I have just barely enough hp to escape the vertical lava quake room, and I stop mid air after passing through the platform. refilling it going to be very difficult to manage

looks good, Saturn :) on a non-TAS-question: I was trying to go for 100% on version 1.1 but got 98.6. 14 energy-tanks, 4 reserve tanks, 5 beams + combo, both suits, morph ball, bomb, screw attack, jump boots, space jump, speed booster, 280 missiles, 30 super missiles, 30 power bombs. What did I miss?

you missed 2 10 missile packs, totals are 300/30/30, I also fixed a bug recently that I was not aware of, a possible 100.6%. thats bedause a powerbomb blockade had the same byte value thats check in the final % code, so gettong on item ended up being 2, but thats fixed now.

Be sure that, if you have enough supply of items, crystal flash while mother brain's hyper beam hits Samus to break the law, pwn the drew and save some (most likely not much) time by free served Shinespark. And skip untasty 10-pack-Missiles in the escape along the way with your new infinite supply of Super Missiles, too. It sure is fun to play around with it ^^ Deequipping Speed Booster and I believe High Jump makes Samus run faster in lava with Gravity Suit. Screw Attack Speed seems to be based on running speed so this is most likely the fastest way of travelling there. There is a weird and surely not really useful little Shinespark glitch. Every time you shinespark into a slope (and keep running afterwards) you can press aim up and shinespark afterwards (= w/o pressing down). This however doesn't work anymore after Samus ran for more than around ~3 blocks. I haven't tried any frame perfect things with it, because I never really was so interested in doing so. I don't see how it could be useful though.

I have no idea what that meant, cause crystal flashing ding MB's beam = death

It works for me... (I believe I have done it in 2.0, too) Crystal flashing during mother brains beam gives Samus a extra shinespark which can be used whenever you want. It might save some little time in the escape. You also get an "infinite" (read: more than enough) amount of Super Missiles if you crystal flash during MB's beam. You can skip the 10-Pack Missiles in the escape with that. (There is a faster way through that room now). Note: I believe i have gotten both "infinite" Missiles & Super Missiles at ther same time. If you could get both "infinite" Super Missiles and Power Bombs, then you could probably save some time with the PBs aswell. You can go through the upper right door in one of the water filled rooms using the Shinepark. The "fastest" way to the ship is apparently blocked by a green gate (which turns into a "you can't open me LOL" gate during the escape), so I believe the old route might still be the best. I am not sure though.

Can someone convert Saturn's run to an avi? I've tried watching it with several different versions of the game and none of them work.

It should work with versions 1.6 and onward, headered.

Like I said, I've tried with several different versions (of both the SM rom and the Redesign patch) and it doesn't work for me.
