Well, he could always use Telnet... EDIT: well, I guess that's impossible if he can't even connect.

a public proxy should to the trick, since his own proxy seems to censorship this. I guess it's all irc, or do other networks work ?

You could try port 7000. I had to do that while I was in Washington, DC, this summer, and it worked on all the networks I tried to join.

Hmm, if Boco is returning to IRC, then I should try harder to connect to it!

Speaking of IRC, does anyone know what "Connection forcefully rejected" might mean? IRC won't let me on for a few hours now :(

The only one I know of is kornbluth, and it does the same thing. Lamenting sigh. Perhaps it will work tomorrow.

Honestly, I don't know... but I have an idea (not tested) get CGI:IRC so you can use irc with your browser; You'll need this perl interpreter (I think) If everything works fine, go here and choose a proxy and boom you're in the party! Or so I believe...

The first thing to do is try using a different port This is accomplished by adding a :(portnumber) at the end of the /server command for instance /server irc.freenode.net:8000 What school are you at? We might be able to look up their internet policies.

University of Houston couldn't care less what I do on their internet. They don't block anything at all. Or so they said in their terms of use agreement. I tried connecting to irc.freenode.net:8000 and got a message [10053] Software caused connection abort. This happened on :6666 also, and :6667 still gives me the same error as before. I tried turning off my virus protector thingy, but that didn't help.

This irc thing is so complicated... I did some research and found that CGI IRC, which allows access to irc channels from your browser (you can't DCC, but who cares). But that is a job for the people who take care of #nesvideos.

What's the name of your "virus protector thingy". Does it mention anything about a firewall? Do you use Windows XP? See what happens if you open http://irc.freenode.net:8000/ in your browser. If it takes about a minute to load, and then you see
NOTICE AUTH :*** Looking up your hostname...
NOTICE AUTH :*** Checking ident
NOTICE AUTH :*** Found your hostname
NOTICE AUTH :*** No identd (auth) response
ERROR :Closing Link: 127.0.0.1 (Connection Timed Out)
the problem is probably something with the way you have your windows or IRC program configured. If it says "The Page cannot be displayed..." or "the connection was refused...", you should call your campus tech support, and ask them for help.

avast! (home edition). No I don't think it mentions a firewall. Yes I use windows XP. Yes I got that code when I opened the link in my browser.

Probably. I wouldn't (and don't) know what to do about it though. I'm glad you figured that out. EDIT: I'm behind a firewall, but there is an exceptions tab and mIRC is checked so the firewall ignores mIRC or something like that. Of course, I might be behind more than 1 fire wall... I dunno.
