I've just begin the my first try of Castlevania3. So give me a good luck ;).
By the way for those who didn't know I and Genisto are doing a Battetoads run.Right now we're at the middle of stage 6.So expect to see a very nice play.
I wish you're doing it on Akumajou Densetsu (the Japanese version), because it has a much better sound than the USA version while the game still being the same.
The Japanese version had some extension chip (VRC6) that gave a few extra sound channels, but Nintendo of America thought it's too expensive and modified the game to play on standard NES audio hardware.
lol im using Konami special version released from 2002 so don't think the sound will be ugly. By the way i'm plying the game with AKAMA as the name which put the game a lot more harder.Again expect to see a nice run.
Never heard of that. Will be a trouble for FMV-only users...
It is a cheat (it takes you directly to the second quest , which you normally get only by playing the game through once - a more difficult version of the exactly same game), but I will allow that one.

The difference in sound quality between the two versions is staggering. I beg of you, use the Japanese version.

No need but thx I already have that rom.
Just a note to anyone who doesn't understand: The link I posted goes to a "music archive" of NSF files. These files contain all the music (and in some cases, sound effects) for NES games.
There are no ROMs there, but there are emulation links.
Yeah that's it I don't need to listen to this music game archive cause I have already that rom.Sorry for this misunderstanding.

Maybe the code has a different name in the japanese version?

Actually, if we get technical (in law), there's no such a thing existing as a public domain software.
A copyrighted work becomes PD in most countries after something like 70 years from the death of the author. Also, "public domain" is not a license you can use, meaning that you can't publish anything in the PD. Even if you say your work is in the PD that doesn't make it so under the law (in practically all western countries): You still own the copyright, no matter what you say.
People will tell you that something becomes PD if you say so (ie. you publish something under PD), but as far as I know this is just an urban legend which is not based on law.
For more information about this, read this extremely interesting article (written by an attorney specialized in copyright issues):

Hey all! =)
I'm new to the forum but I've been visiting this site for some time now... And it is really cool!
Now, I was wondering, Phil, what ever happened to your Battletoads timeattack? =P I've watched all your movie and they're all impressive (really enjoyed Double Dragon series! Used to play those games so much when I was younger.) and I was looking forward to Battletoads. Anyway... I'm just asking.
thanks,

We have a plan to protect against that.
