I've been planing since a while a time attack of Final Fantasy Mystic Quest. I'm making the most perfect possible. Everything have already been planned, but if someone have any tips or tricks that could be helpful, you're welcome to tell me. Thanks.
dunno if this is useful but neways, taken from davidwonn's.
Easily defeat last boss
sent in by D-Bone
I found a glitch to use in Final Fantasy: Mystic Quest, for Super Nintendo. At the very last boss, you can easily beat him just by healing him over and over again. He'll die after being healed about 6 or 7 times.
The Life spell is an instant-death attack, as is the Exit spell, but the latter gives no EXP or GP. I managed to get the Life spell to work on the first boss of Doom Castle a couple times (the white dragon zombie). 10,000 HP of damage in one shot. :D I'd definitely see if it works on more bosses, since your allies always come equipped with it.
There's a bug in the game that makes your allies have the same stats as an ally from a previous game. For instance, if you get to the end with the suped-up Phoebe, reset, and start a new game, Kaeli (or whatever her name is) will have mega-high defense to damage, magic, and status ailments (check the status screen). This reverts to normal by saving and resetting. I could be wrong, but I think the bug carries over to all your allies, just as long as you don't save/reset. That might be something to abuse.
As far as the last boss goes, I think once he changes forms a few times, the cure spell attack starts healing him instead of damaging. I can't test it for sure right now, my SNES and monitors are packed away, so just save after every successful damage and be on the lookout for some green numbers popping up.
And yes, the Dragon Claw (the most powerful claw) can kill in one hit. With the Life Spell and the claw, I can see most battles ending very quickly.
I'm not really sure that the last boss heals when you cast a healing spell on him. Can't really remember. But I know that the hero and Phobe (spell?) are using diffrent colours when casting on the last boss. White and gren color, one of them is for damage, think it's white, and the other one is for regaining life. How ever I think it doesn't matter in the last fight. Can't really remember though. It's something back in my head. I will check if I have a save game there with my hardware snes some day. Unless someone plays the roms faster than I can install my machine. :D
I don't really have knowledge of in whitch cardbore box it is since I moved. =)
Anyways.. I'm waiting to see this speed run. Step on it! :D
The final boss has 40,000 HP and the max damage I have seen is ~30 000 with Life or Cure spell, I don't remember exactly. So it's a 2 hit kill. Well 3 since the 2nd time you do this it heals the boss for ~10 000 if I remember correctly.
I don't think in a speedrun it will be possible to do 30 000 damage since you'll need to be at top level (46 I think).
Any progress on this? I've actually been thinking about doing it if it's been halted.

but then you take my 75 perchance chance of winning, if we was to go one-on-one, and then add 66 and two-thirds ch...percents...i got a 141 and two-thirds chance of winning at sacrifice
I really want to see this one, so I say go for it. The other guy hasn't posted in over two months, so I think it's pretty safe to say we won't see his version.
Teh bump!11
First world, test run.
The rom version is (U) (1.0) [!]. Any ideas for improvement? I already have a few.
- Normal 2nd hit against Behemoth (2nd critical isn't needed)
- Skip all Cure Potion pickups (I haven't used one yet)
- Criticals seemed easier to manipulate (as in, less waiting) using the Sword instead of the Axe, at least in Level Forest they seemed to be
- Life spell vs. Minotaur Zombie? (a bit faster and easier than manipulating criticals, as long as they're not immune to Fatal)
- various menu and dialogue optimizations (I'm just using turbo in this test run)
I could've sworn you can use the Life Spell against Flamerous Rex, but it just wasn't working for me. Same with critical hits using the Cure spell as an attack. Granted, it's been years since I last played this game.
Looks like none of my allies will ever have any elemental or status defense because of the bug. I'd have to save/reset to get them.
Uh... wha? That would be me, hence why I posted my progress. It's going well so far, thank you. =D
The emulator replays are easily watched, as well. Not to mention they take up much less space and run much smoother (unless your PC is really old). If I even see this test run to completion, it won't be submitted until I re-do it, which is a long way off. It may not even be published. You might want to settle for the smv until then.
Just wondering - why do you prefer the avi's? Is it so you can view whichever part of the movie you want at any time? This question goes to anyone who likes the avi's better. I've never seen any of them since I'm on dial-up (which will change, very very soon!).
edit: D'oh, I just thought of this - Mac users can't run Snes9x can they? AVI preferrance in that case makes a lot of sense.
I can't watch the emulator replays as I'm using a mac.
I wasn't sure if it was just you, Omega, or if there were multiple people doing the run.
In any case, good luck. Keep us posted! :D
