I find the double columns to be more unusual/clunky/gimmicky than they are useful. If there were an option in profile to return to the usual forum display, I'd use it.

I don't like it at all. It's all crammed together and looks cluttered. There's too much information in too little space. The old way was much better.
I also have a minimum font size which is slightly bigger than the default on this site, which makes it look ultra-cluttered for me, even in a high resolution. (I use 1152*864)
Just look at this beast:

Given all of the different opinions from different people,
maybe the layout should be implemented in such a way that each user can set it ---- like my.yahoo.com.
For my.yahoo.com, each user can set their own layout. It's the user's choice on how they want it to look.
I didn't noticed it because I only posted on some topic using direct link but seriously the way it is now is somewhat "How the hell can we like it!!?" and "Omg that sucks!".
This is my opinion.
I first though that the browser was screwing around... I like the idea of making the page more compact, but splitting in 2 rows it's ugly. Personally, I really like the format on http://www.cyberscoreforums.com/

I didn't like the design, but the description text of the threads is 100% better.
But I think I found a use for that empty space...

LOOK! 400 posts! Now I can access the l33t TAS cheaterz thread!
"Genuine self-esteem, however, consists not of causeless feelings, but of certain knowledge about yourself.
It rests on the conviction that you — by your choices, effort and actions — have made yourself into the
kind of person able to deal with reality. It is the conviction — based on the evidence of your own volitional
functioning — that you are fundamentally able to succeed in life and, therefore, are deserving of that success."

I'm actually fine with either layout, but this new one just require some getting used to.
LOL, good idea! It might just convert some others to retain this layout

All day I've been seeing what Inzult sees, it was horrible. I'm getting the two columns now, and I'm not comfortable with it. Yes, I understand the thinking, but even at 1280x1024 that I use, it just really feels way too cramped. And my eyes don't like looking to the right on a forum to look for boards.
I honestly could get used to it, to be fair. I'm not going to say I like it, or prefer it, but I could get used to it. As far as layout design goes, I've always wondered just how necessary it is to have a specific forum for each system's EMULATOR, like, it just always seemed to make the journey to the last three forums just that much longer, so I almost never went there. How often do threads there get new posts? GOOD new posts? I dunno. Like the two columns thing, I underSTAND it, but I wonder if there's a better way.
You have large fonts.
I only get that if I press ctrl+ to enlarge the fonts. Which indeed makes it look a bit cluttered.
No, but because all submissions are finished movies; i.e. they are not work-in-progress movies. Gruefood is rejected submissions; a subgroup of submissions, and thus a subgroup of finished movies.
At least Maza said in IRC that "it was already a bit messy to newcommers (at least that's what all of my friends have said)".
By grouping them logically and making it easy to spot the right thing I attempted to avoid situations where one searches the forum list by scrolling it up and down and stops at the first "this might be it" because he hasn't seen the entire list, and thus posts in or reads the wrong forum.
I didn't like it when I first looked at it. However now, after I've used it a bit, I see that it is a lot easier to use because everything is there right away and I don't have to scroll down. In conclusion: I like it.

I think I agree with Kyrsimys even though I did not like it last night. Now all the sudden, I get two columns. Its like the Wiimote, you would eventually get used to it but its gonna take some time :)
I must say I'm quite surprised by the magnitude of reactions it causes, like that of yours.
Probably, you are seeing something different than I see. Here's how it appears on my Windows computer… (work):
