I've been thinking for a while that instead of just a screenshot for movie entries we could put 3-6 screenshots together in a slideshow or maybe use a section of the movie for an animated gif (like in the Mega Man Tricks section). What do you think?

Faxanadu has an animated gif screenshot! But for the most part I think this is a bad idea. I think it would be better to have several screenshots posted side by side, instead of animated gif's (Example). But that may clutter the movie pages.

That might work nicely for an individual movie's page. That's an awful lot of bandwidth for some of the larger collections (e.g., all NES or all Genesis movie pages), though.

It is possible to dedicate a larger page for a single movie and to have the multiple-movie pages list only the information that is there now. This might actually be a nice new feature...

How about making 3-4 screenshots that can be switched manually on the individual movie page ("more movies/history of this entry/similar movies" style)? Shot #1 will load by default (on both the individual page and the list), the buttons won't take too much space, everyone's happy.

Seconded... though updating every run on the site would be tedious. Or would this only apply to new publications?

Perhaps you could have a single random screenshot that is picked at random from a group of screenshots in the lists, and an expanded view when looking at the movie alone?

Most of the movie pages on SDA do something like that, with the screenshot on the right being chosen at random when the page loads, but I don't think they provide any way to see all of the screenshots at once.

Probably it would only apply to whatever publications editors feel like uploading multiple screenshots for.

I think its a good idea just having random pictures that change when the page is reloaded. And what is with the faxanadu picture being animated?

Who says that all of the movies need a slideshow? If a person really likes a movie, they can make a slideshow or animated .gif or three for that movie's page. If most movies never get more than one static screenshot, that's perfectly fine. (Heck, even that one screenshot isn't strictly necessary--people can download the .avi files and watch the whole thing without.)

Because the characters in Faxanadu are all afflicted with the blinking madness.

This might actually be a great idea, I mean for people who never played the game before , having couple of screenshots of the awesomeness in the video will actually persuade the person to watch it.
